Keep the Rebuild Going
I think Manson would be a better target as opposed to Montour. Montour is draft exempt which makes him more attractive to Anaheim opposed to Manson who they will need to leave exposed unless they want to loose Silvferberg or Rakell. Manson is better though so just remove the pick and I think that looks good. Otherwise I like your other movevs!

Leafs Next Season
Agreed, any contract given to players not part of our core should be limited to 2 years.

leafs are a playoff team
Way too much for Gudbranson. Replace him with Tanev. Even then I'd be hesitant to pull off this deal

Pre deadline deals (This season)
I don't see the penguins trade happening. I know Pouliot's value has dropped but I don't think hunwick will have that much trade value. I like the Carolina deal but if they are getting wingers from us I think they might want a more skilled winger as oppose to a grinding kind of two way guy. They have those. Maybe switch Rychel for like a Timashov.

Grabbing some underrated D-men next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SB84</b></div><div><i>Islanders would match the offer for De Haan in a second. Flyers like Gudas and wouldn't move him for that.</i></div></div>
Both those teams have two many D. That's why the trades match up. Maybe I was a little low on the values but I think they'd definetly be available. De Hann was a trade for his rights (forgot to add that part) NYI have too many D they gonna loose one at the expansion draft so they get maybe a 3rd or 2nd for him. Then the Flyers have so many young Dmen coming up the ranks they could most likely afford to let one of their current NHL guys go. Maybe change the 3rd to a 2nd or Upgrade Leipsic/Soshnikov to Lindberg.

Getting a RHD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>Watson and Corrado are really meaningless in the deal. Do the Leafs want 2 full years of Ellis for one year of Bozak and the potential of Lindberg and that second rounder. It might be fair, especially if Ellis is not going to protected in the draft by the Preds.</i></div></div>
My description for this trade didn't post for some reason...but my thoughts here is that it allows Toronto to protcect 4F 4D 1G (JVR, Kadri, Leipsic, Brown, Rielly, Gardiner, Ellis, Carrick, Andersen) and then they loose either Marincin, Martin, Komarov or a nothing special prospect. For Nashville it allows them to only have to protect 3D and therefore protect more of their forwards (ex. Forsberg, Neal, Smith, Johansen, Jarnkrok, Arvidsson, Wilson, Josi, Subban, Ekholm, Rinne). Maybe Bozak protected instead of like Wilson or Smith. I think Ellis could be the real deal complementing either Rielly or Gardiner and really solidifying our Top 4!

Getting a RHD #2

Wow didn't think they valued him THAT much. If this is too little and my other options don't work then I'd also be OK with adding Bracco to the deal to sweeten it. I like Bracco but I think we have a ton of RW prospects ahead of him.

Tanev Trade

1st line LW for top pairing D isn't a blockbuster? Sounds pretty big to me. I think what Benning is saying there is that if he trades Tanev it's got to be for a legitiment quality player, not a bunch of scrubs and picks

Tanev Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>Do you really think the Canucks who should be in the rebuild mode. would trade Tanev who is a UFA 2020 for JVR who is a UFA in 2018?</i></div></div>
This isn't my thought process this is managements. Yes I personally think it's best that they fully rebuild, however with the Sedins likely not going anywhere management thinks differently. I'm not saying they need a 20 goal scorer, THEY ARE. Just cuz they are stuck in a bad position of how to move forward with their team, doesn't mean we can't take advantage of that. The Canucks think they can make the playoffs this year...

Leafs Post-Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EvanCarr</b></div><div><i>It's definitely an interesting trade. However, I would not do it, and here's why. First of all, Seth Jones hasn't reached his full potential. And he never may. Personally, I view him as a great #3 on a good team. In my opinion, giving up a 1st that will definitely be a lottery pick is very risky. Imagine if it's a top 3. I just don't think the Leafs are in a position right now to trade their first round picks.</i></div></div>
Evan i completely agree that trading the 1st is risky however if there was ever a draft to do this its this upcoming one. It is supposed to be weak and also now with Vegas coming in i think they automatically get best odds at first overall (or 2nd or 3rd best something like that). Jones may not be a #1 but i think he is at least a #2 and would make a killer pairing with Rielly. Not saying in any way that we would make the playoffs next year, but i think with this team we would get out of the NHL basement and unless we had unbeleivable luck we would probably be picking between 5-15 area.

Please no Stamkos
i agree, we dont need stamkos.....he's a great player but we can get there without him if we are patient and then we will have that cap space when we need to sign matthews, marner, nylander, etc. at the end of their ELCs

Leafs Post-Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Crsn07</b></div><div><i>Only in laugh land could they think you can get Seth Jones and Carolina doesn't need a shitty Goalie lol</i></div></div>
If you look at Colombus' cap situation you would realize that they are in trouble and very vulnerable to an offer sheet for Jones. They only have about 3 or 4 million dollars in cap space next year so unless they are able to unload contracts or bridge deal Jones he's gonna get offers north of 5mil for 5 years. Compensation for that is a 1st and 3rd. So like the Dougie Hamilton deal last year, we give coloumbus a little more than what theyd get for compensation (plus mind you our picks could be quite high next draft). So although it would have to work out perfectly, i dont think its out of the question that Toronto makes an offer for Jones.
As for the Bernier deal, that one was more of a stretch. I'm fine with keeping him as backup till his contract expires but if there were any way Lou could shed his contract i hope he does.
