They need defensive more then a goalie
If your hope is that kukan is a top 4 D, i want whatever you are drinking. He can't handle the bottom pair, i wouldn't want to rely on him for a playoff team. But Jarmo would for sure have to consider this trade. I don't want to move gavy at all, but this return would be enough to consider it.

Jackets trade isn't close. A 30 year old defenseman, 3rd line winger and late round pick are all things that do absolutely nothing to help us rebuild.

Let's say this is the case, why would you return to a team that didn't want to commit to you 3 months ago. Not to mention there have been a lot of games recently where he is getting 10 minutes or less of ice time. We should add Kent Johnson next year which would push him further down the playing time list. No chance he is interested in that. If he leaves, he isnt coming back.

Deadline options
If columbus trades jack, it means his time is done there. The organization will do everything they can to get him to succeed. If he is traded it means they have given up and its time to move on. Based on that, this trade doesn't provide enough value to move on from him.

Still does nothing to make us better. We traded a second for bean and his value at minimum has stayed the same since that point. We have almost zero D depth that is remotely close to playing at the NHL level. This trade doesn't make us better now and isn't enough to make us better in the future. Still a no.

I agree, i'd take a flyer on this if he tells jarmo he'd come to columbus. We don't need a winger, but if you get a former top 10 pick and a second round pick for a 3c that is getting 6-7 minutes a night, i take that chance. Give tex the rest of the season to see if he can play C or if he is a W in the NHL. Can also evaluate some of the other younger centers we have in cleveland.

Jackets trade isnt close. Schmaltz isnt worth a top 10 pick. Especially not to a rebuilding team that is multiple pieces and at least two seasons away from being a contender

He has really found his game since the Christmas shut down. Not necessarily playing to a $5.5M contract yet but he is consistently contributing now.

The poster I responded to said retained and is not OP. CBJ has zero reason to trade him without retention given the current market and his performance. The value of korpi is an experienced goaltender with some minimal playoff success at a $1.4M cap hit to serve as a backup.

CBJ trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bdawwwgy1</b></div><div>I'd argue with cap that korpi and koskinen are similar
And cbj should be willing to retain on him. If we retain 50 and he costs 1.4, taking koski at 4.5 saves them 3.1M and gives them a player who AT LEAST has a history of performing well in the playoffs. I'm not saying korpi is a good goalie rn though</div></div>
Oilers fans love to say korpi is bad which is hard to argue up to this point even though our defense leaves him out to dry 8-10 times a night. They forget that there is a $3.1M difference in this swap as well and that is where the real value of korpi is at. I wouldnt trust either of them in the playoffs, so if you get $3.1M in cap out of this, thats a win for edmonton.

I am sure that would be the counter from ARI. I'd be curious on the market for nyquist. I put him around a second or third round pick. He is steadily getting better as the season goes and he get back in the groove after the season off. So three firsts, a second and a third is about the best i'd want to offer for a rebuilding team. Maybe if the first is top 10 protected this year we give you next years, then i agree to it.

I think the expected ask has been a first for Domi with retention. Without retention, i could see us settling for a second round and fourth round picks or something like that.

Offseason Flat Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>YYZ019</b></div><div>This is just an offseason roster, training camp will discern who makes the final roster. But yeah, I could see them dropping Carlsson. As for Roslovic and a winger? I was looking to conserve cap space. Roslovic was a second-line center plug for far cheaper than most centers this offseason. By the end of the contract, Jenner, Sillinger, or Johnson will have replaced him</div></div>
Conserving cap space would be signing Johnson and seeing what Foudy can do instead of signing another winger to a $3M deal. Plus Marchenko should be coming over and will be close to NHL ready right away.

The Future is Bright
Stenlund has had his chance in Columbus and passed through waivers. Not a chance he gets a $2M deal, its highly unlikely he even comes back to Columbus. There is no way that Jack gets a 6 year deal right now. He just hasnt been good this season and there's not a chance jarmo commits to something like that right now. Like you said though Laine is completely unknown. His decision will drastically impact how Jarmo looks to build this team.

Offseason Flat Cap
There is no reason for Carlsson and Bemstrom to get anything over league minimum and I could easily see the jackets non-tendering them. Stenlund has passed through waivers and clearly has no future in Columbus. The Roslovic deal is a pretty big overpay unless he figures it out the rest of the season. I also don't see any reason to bring in another winger with the number of guys we have coming in.

Werenski is almost untouchable especially after his extension. Its going to take a major overpay for Jarmo to even listen and this isnt close to fair value.
