I don't think Makar has less value than Sid... actually quite the opposite. But I know that the Pens would need a superstar on the team to sell tickets. Did makes the Pens money... that's the bottom line. if they trade Sid, they need to get back someone who will draw people to buy tickets. Makar obviously fits that description. Trading someone like Sid is about more than just hockey skill. You need to realize, Pittsburgh is spoiled. They've had Lemieux, Jagr, Sid, and Malkin since 1984... Most of the fan base doesn't remember '83 when they tanked to get Mario, and those that do couldn't see anything thru their paper bags. Most of them don't remember the years when Mario retired and before Sid when Rico Fata was the team's top forward. The team almost left the city twice because of lack of revenue. They literally cannot afford to trade Sid without getting an absolute overpayment back for him.
