24-25 Penguins Youth Movement
I absolutely agree with your thinking. I think we go with the young kids and keep the 2025 pick, even if this year's is in the top 10.

Pittsburgh has a great goalie prospect in the AHL... the Edmonton trade for Campbell is horrible. Edm needs to pay more for us to take him. As much as Jarry is worth a 1st + prospect, Campbell costs a 1st + prospect to take.

He's definitely not washed up, he's going to cost them more than they can afford, so they're getting something for him before he walks. He would be the Islanders leading scoring for the rest of the year if they traded for him.

I don't think Makar has less value than Sid... actually quite the opposite. But I know that the Pens would need a superstar on the team to sell tickets. Did makes the Pens money... that's the bottom line. if they trade Sid, they need to get back someone who will draw people to buy tickets. Makar obviously fits that description. Trading someone like Sid is about more than just hockey skill. You need to realize, Pittsburgh is spoiled. They've had Lemieux, Jagr, Sid, and Malkin since 1984... Most of the fan base doesn't remember '83 when they tanked to get Mario, and those that do couldn't see anything thru their paper bags. Most of them don't remember the years when Mario retired and before Sid when Rico Fata was the team's top forward. The team almost left the city twice because of lack of revenue. They literally cannot afford to trade Sid without getting an absolute overpayment back for him.

Theoretical Crosby trade
For Pittsburgh to be able to afford trading Sid, they'd need Makar to be PART of the return... yes, Makar PLUS.
or
Mario finds the fountain of youth and comes back as an 18 year old.
One of these is more realistic than the other... and it's not trading Sid.

It wont happen but everyone except Pittsburgh wants it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dad</b></div><div>It'll only happen if Crosby wants it to, with his NMC he could control where he'd want to be dealt, the hull for him would still be a lot but not as much as you'd probably think. Look at Kane and Giroux trades recently. That said, the Avs would probably have to part ways with one of their top 5 d in the trade. Swap Byram with Kovalenko and it seems fair.</div></div>
I agree that Sid determines if and where he goes. Although Sid now is worth more than Giroux and Kane when they were traded.

The only people who want it are in Colorado. Pittsburgh would need to be "blown away" for Sid... think about what you're want for Mac and Makar... then offer that for Sid.

Sell This Team Sucks
Pens are not trading Letang or Malkin until after Sid's contract expires. You didn't trade Jake (our most coveted tradable piece) or Ned. The return for Rust is a joke. This is just dumping players for the sake of dumping them, not getting a better team in return.

Poulin is looking good in the minors, but it hasn't translated to the NHL with the Pens. He was a first-round pick with potential. I think if he's given the chance in a scoring position, he'd be good, but the Pens only uses him as a 3rd or 4th liner. The trade offer wouldn't be enough for an early to mid-first rounder, but for pick #29-32, it's fair.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NV94</b></div><div>I think that’s considered tampering or something. Not entirely sure but sounds illegal</div></div>
Actually, as long as the discussions happen before the trade, there's no tampering. I love the idea, but if word of this came out, it would cause Jake, his agent, Dubas, and the Pens to be blackballed and not have other teams make deals with them in the future.

Pettersson would cost more than that... and then some to retain. Pit doesn't want to trade him, so you'd have to grossly overpay to get him.

Pens Updated
I'll comment on the NJ trade.
Jarry, leading the league in shutouts, and knowing that the Devils are getting desperate for a #1, AND having them in the same division, would cost them the 1st, 2nd, and Bahl. Vanecek is a valued as a cap dump, but Pit might accept him as a throw in for Jarry. MP is arguable the Pens best defenseman this year and at least #2. He's on a team friendly deal with term. He's going to cost a ton for the Pens to trade him, we're talking at least a 1st plus, especially to someone in the division. If you want us to retain, it will cost even more. Unless the Pens are in Tank mode (which they'll never be with Sid on the team), he's almost untouchable.
