Miller is who I just said to re-sign. Carlo isn't small but doesn't play with the same tenacity or grit. McAvoy typically plays against top lines where it isn't as necessary and Lauzon usually plays with him. Having a third pair of Zboril and Cliffton is very small especially matching up against other teams third and fourth lines.

Ditch the oleksiak signing. Bruins have a ton of LD they trust, which is why they let krug go.
Forward group looks good, though I’d like it if kuraly was back.</div></div>
Agreed, don't see them signing Oleksiak. But I would say they sign a cheaper option. Possibly keep Tinordi around or Miller if healthy at low cost (close to league minimum), just to keep some size.

If i’m the front office I would not give him multi year deal as his commitment is iffy. Will come down to how the season plays out and Rasks desire to play.</div></div>
Don't see them walking away from Rask. Like you said though, will probably sign one year 5M and split games similar to Halak and Rask.

If Ottawa never traded Reilly to claim Mete they would have had to put Reilly or Gudbranson on waivers, or take the young guys they've been trying out of the lineup. Point is they shouldn't have had to give up a 3rd for Reilly. Either way made up for it with the Hall deal, hopefully gives them some secondary scoring.

Lauzon is a 3rd pair d man masquerading as a top 4 guy. Sadly i could make a case that Reilly is the best LHD man on the roster.
They have not missed out on anyone. There is not much for D available.</div></div>
As the bruins have 4 of their 6 season opening players out injured for tonight's game I wouldn't start comparing tonights game to analyze the bruins defense. Especially considering they have a top 5 GAA in the league. With Zboril having the most games played among all bruins dmen this season and Lauzon is 3rd. They've had 12 different dmen play this year and still have a playoff spot in the toughest division which is a pretty good indicator of their depth.
The point is that the comparables that have been moved so far are Montour, Merril and Nemeth and now Reilly. In my opinion (based on more then points) Reilly is the worst of the three. and he was traded for the highest price (3rd round pick).

I’d rather have Reilly than Vatanen and Mete combined. Mete is pretty likely claimed by someone before it gets to Boston and Vatanen should probably be playing in the KHL.</div></div>
By what metric is he better then Mete other than points?
The point is that Mike Reilly is a depth defenseman that Boston could have filled the same roll without having to give up assets. Bruins clearly had other options to fill the same role, they've struck out on other omre meaningful options as they do every year and then go out and waste assets where it is completely unnecessary.

The big difference is Vatanen at 4.5 mil limits the bruins ability to continue to add before tomorrow. Reilly at 1.5 gives them more flexibility. Also, I think Reilly is a better fit, the B's already have a smaller statured puck mover, and do not need to add a lesser one at a more expensive number.</div></div>
Vatanen is a 2M cap hit.
and the bruins have one smaller statured puck mover in their lineup (Grez). their biggest issue is getting hemmed in their own zone without having good first pass breakouts.
The point isn't that Reilly has clearly gotten off to a good season in Ottawa its that the Bruins clearly had other options to fill the same role, they've struck out on other omre meaningful options as they do every year and then go out and waste assets where it is completely unnecessary.

Reilly has played 70 games in OTT in 2 years. Has 31 points. How many 30 point d men does Boston have?
If Mete was any good Montreal would not have brought in half dozen mediocre d men to play ahead of him the last 2 years. They finally realized he’s nothing more than a roster filler. Rest of the league fan bases should follow suit.</div></div>
Reilly has never played a full season anywhere. Mete played on the top pair in Montreal as an 19 year old and clearly was way to young to be put in that position. Mike Reilly is merely a depth defenseman for the bruins and they could have filled the same hole without having to give up any assets.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>Reilly is better than Vatanen and 18 teams have a waiver claim priority on Mete.</div></div>
Reilly may be marginally better than Vantanen but is it a game breaking difference? Vatanen could have been had for free, which I feel everyone can agree the Bruins need all the picks they can get to replenish a depleted farm system, and with Mete on waivers they could at least wait to see if he get claims at this point he hasn't been claimed yet. Chances are Ottawa may end up claiming, in which case they could have had to put Reilly on waivers.
The point for me is that Boston has been horrible with their asset management over the years, and there is really no point in trading picks for depth players at this point. The bruins depth has clearly been tested and they have plenty of it. They have been plagued by injuries for the majority of this season.

The competitive market will end up being for guys like Nick Foligno. Most teams have a top 6 that is pretty much set in stone. Where as they will trade for guys like Foligno, Laughton, Miles Wood, that can play up and down the lineup and end u being game changers in the playoffs.

I'd trade for him just so he doesn't score against Boston (5 Goals this season) in their final two games against NJ. lol
All jokes aside, Palmieri won't be getting any better but I do think he fits the bruins window of cup contention, he is having a down year but I think that has more to do with his team and less to do with him. Realistically they probably only have another year or two to push for a cup and Palmieri would be willing to sign a team friendly deal to be in Boston

Bear is at a low cost because quite frankly he isn't good. Saying he is a top 4 defenseman is a stretch. He might be a top 4 defenseman on the oilers because they can't play defense. Having a down year amid shortened seasons and a pandemic while battling injuries and covid doesn't suddenly decrease debrusk's value that much. Debrusk for a third pairing defenseman will never happen.
