While I think there is a fit for Shattenkirk in Anaheim, that is not nearly enough compensation for them to consider it. Even at 50%.

I'm ok with the first condition, because I dont think the Rangers make the Eastern Conference Finals, much less the Western Conference Finals. But I'm not risking a 1st rounder on Gusev having a big year. We're trading for him in the hope that he has big years.</div></div>
I think any team in the league would trade a first round pick for a 70 point player, especially a first round pick that is 3 years away. If he scores 70, we probably had a great season and it’s a lower pick anyway, well worth it. Kevin Hayes got us a first round pick and a prospect and he’s never even sniffed 70 points.
I also think the first condition is to prevent us from trading him back to the West where Vegas would have to deal with him. Which isn’t likely given our circumstances and intention to be a competitor in the next couple years.

For what they give up or the contracts they receive? Figure Kreider is worth a 1st plus a mid prospect. DeAngelo worth more than a 3rd plus throw in player. His addition gets the Kreider prospect up to a high one or change it to Trenin plus a first and devils second

Kinda unpractical that cap dumping. Why would Canucks want Smith and his cap hit? You might say the same for Shattenkirk.

That is a no from Columbus. We aren’t moving picks. We are going into a rebuild and Kreider doesn’t fit what we’re wanting to do. Also we aren’t moving yet another 1st round pick.

Ottawa, on the other hand, ought to be happy to have Artie's contract. 4.55 per and an actual cost of 2.5 each year? I'm shocked it didn't happen already today...

Ok what would be a realistic offer for someone to buyout Staal. Washington gave up grubauer* and got back a second to buyout orpik

Rebuild complete start of dynasty
Vasili Podkolzin <em>is locked into an overseas contract for at least another two years, which limits the number of NHL teams willing to consider it at this time.</em> (source: today's Friedman 31 Thoughts (<a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/31-thoughts-intrigue-around-nhl-draft-starting-take-shape/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/31-thoughts-intrigue-around-nhl-draft-starting-take-shape/</a>).
This is why it's projected to have him slide quite a few positions (probably Detroit picks him, they are not in a rush and Yzerman seems high on the kid)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfelz91</b></div><div>I think you're probably wrong on this one bud. Corey Pronman, as well as other NHL prospect writers, have been writing for months about how much they like this year's crop of guys. Obviously my opinion is based on second hand information, but at least it's something. I guess time will tell.</div></div>
Last year was a very deep draft, but very close to this one in terms of depth after the top 3.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Christiansilvestri</b></div><div>The reasoning isn’t just bc it’s moving up. This trade is the scenario that podkolzin falls in to floridas lap</div></div>
It simply doesn't make sense to trade all that for Podkolzin when you can do the same thing next year and get Jan Mysak. If you took away Georgiev entirely it'd work from a pick value perspective. I just don't see the point in moving up to grab Podkolzin. Brink will still be there as will Kaliyev and Dorofeyev. They're all pretty evenly matched.

Thoughts on the trades
Like the approach...most of these lineups start with the signing of Panarin...Most UFA signings- especially big ticket ufas- are over pays...if even a slight disappointment, the team is handcuffed and the rebuild can be crippled.
The trades seem fair- Leafs might be more interested in B. smith (1/2 sal retained) than Pionk

This makes a lot of sense for the Rangers, and seems like the most likely to happen as well. Nice job, Marleau won't waive but that trade makes a lot of sense for both sides.
