As a Jets fan I do think this is what it would take for the Devils to win the bidding war.
You’d need us to take vanacek’s contract. You’d be competing against 2023 1st round picks that are in the early teens from Pittsburgh (14oa) and Buffalo (13oa) where the 2024 1st makes us wait a year and is likely the 32nd pick in a draft that isn’t as strong as this year. 13 oa in this draft class probably nets a player equal or better than Holtz, who has talent but hasn’t proven anything at the nhl level yet.

Adding another 1st
I’m just here to say Marleau to be bought out of his $6.25M caphit cost 13oa so there is precedent where moving 11oa to dump Myers is the likely cost.
Maybe the Canucks can work a trade back dumping a contract but I’ve been musing about the jets pulling the same move to swipe 11oa.

To move from 17 to 5 I gave up 17, pld, Barron and Heinola. I actually thought it was a tongue in cheek response of the huge over correction on the counter to show how crazy the original ask was.
My bad for not recognizing it as a serious counter.
Reichel just isn’t proven enough for me to consider anything like that. He went ppg in the AHL and had a promising 20 game stretch but I’m not familiar enough to know if it was a hot spell, a cold spell or if that production could be counted on in the future.
The entire acgm is based on drafting a top line C at 5 so I couldn’t then trade that pick for a winger. As an ncaa player Rinzel has risk for us too as it’s easy for people to just skip to UFA. It always makes me nervous until they actually sign.
You look at Logan Cooley and you just wonder…

To be clear, I do t think we should do this but to be the devil’s advocate. If Lambert isn’t ready, you could try Lucious or shift 55 to rw and trey Perfetti at C with Barron or Harkins at 2lw.
I don’t feel like Ehlers/Perfetti are bound to be injured but they both got hurt last year so I clearly can’t say they won’t either. I agree that this likely sets the franchise back a half decade if everyone decides to walk for nothing.
I would still pay, but I can afford to and I like going to the games with my friends. I like watching the shiny new toy and really we’ve retained so many guys it feels pretty stale. We need some new blood even just to keep it entertaining.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Yeah. For years before the 2022 draft, it was thought that Lambert was so exceptional that he could go 1st overall. I certainly had interest in Lambert and I actually was hoping CHI would draft him with that very pick that they got Rinzel with. But, if they value Rinzel highly enough to draft him over Lambert in the first place, I don't think one single, albeit great, junior season on a stacked team is going to change that.
Also, although Rinzel wasn't on my radar at the draft last year, I looked back at all the rankings leading up to the draft to see exactly how BIG of a "reach" it was picking him. It seems most scouts had him ranked right there in the early 2nd round. So, he was already ranked as if he COULD slide into the late 1st round. I definitely wouldn't mind bringing Lambert over to CHI, but not for this.
I guess I didn't make a counter offer though, because I figure if you want this much then the gap is probably way too big.</div></div>
I wanted us to draft Rinzel with our 2nd round pick but I do know he was a riser. It makes sense that if you just passed in a guy at the draft you wouldn’t typically trade the guy you chose over him.

The thing is, Lambert was projected to be a top 3 pick going into the season and then everyone passed on him, including us once, due to his attitude. Well having an entire league pass on you is a real wake up call turns out. He’s done everything asked including going to the WHL.
There was a hawks acgm where they asked on Lambert and what the price would be. I thought it would be fun to put the Reichel cousins together on a line.
Lambert’s upside is so huge that I wouldn’t do Rinzel for him straight up, and Rinzel was a pretty decent reach when you took him.
Anyhow, of 5 trades I got 1 agreed to and the other 4 were so insulting nobody even wanted to have a discussion about what a counter offer could be… despite me suggesting that was what I wanted to do.

I was looking at our prospects trying to figure out who the most valuable one we could move would be but I’ll have to go back to the drawing board. I thought moving back 12 picks he could be the clincher but there is no need for him, kind of like we have no need for Dvorak so I get it. I wouldn’t do McGroarty and I don’t think we have anyone else that would move the needle.

You’re entitled to your opinion but that is an awful return for the Jets and they would be better served trading him at the deadline if that was the best they could do. Could be the 32nd pick overall….

Scheif had 42 goals and would have had way more points if his line mates could finish. He’s one of the leagues top players at generating slot passes so his assist numbers are way lower than they should be.
Lucius is a mid first round pick and no slouch but it’s all good. Thought it could make sense but you’re not interested.

I just thought it could work for both teams. Lucius isn’t a plug and a guy in a contract year coming off a 40 goal season for $3M has value to put a banner in the rafters. I thought people would balk at Morrow but didn’t anticipate how little you’d value Lucius as a right shot center that we drafted mid first round after he slid…. I viewed it as Scheif for next year and Lucius for the years after that. Don’t know if you’re mad because you went down 3-0 tonight if if there offer is that terrible?
I said I’d be willing to discuss as I thought Stan for a 2nd might get some pushback, the Chicago trade I feel like we’d need to add something but wasn’t sure what and I wondered about Morrow. Sounds like there is no interest in 55 so it’s all good.

Even though Drai will be in his walk season at that point? Can they afford to let him go for nothing or would they need to trade him in advance of that season? Kind of a moot point as if Helle hits free agency the chances he picks the Oilers over a U.S. option isn’t very high.
I don’t like this return for the Jets either for Helle and Ehlers so nobody likes it.

To me a blue Chip prospect would be one of the top 3-5 in a teams prospect pool. Someone likely drafted in the top 2 rounds.

I’m glad we agree we shouldn’t trade him to Montreal and both hope he doesn’t end up there.
I expect his summer the Jets to offer him 8 by $9.5m and then let him talk to the Habs about what a long term contract from them looks like if he’s traded and he decides to stay.
If we decide to trade him Boston does have Lysell, Lohrei, Swayman and Carlo that could be the centrepiece of a trade and any one of them would far exceed Florida’s first in terms of a return.
Habs fans are just getting on my last nerve parroting the same nonsense trade that makes no sense for the Jets to accept when, even as a pure rental, a different team would offer more.
Boston and Colorado have the greatest need but I think Seattle could give the greatest return. Habs can go pound sand and then riot when he doesn’t end up there.
Also, maybe Habs draft a C at 5OA and have no need for PLD so he can stay here. That’s a good outcome for the Jets too.
