Yes, they do have interest. That doesnt mean they're going to overpay. Stop being delusional. Risto with 1 year left, and over 5.4M AVV isnt worth more than a 3rd round pick, and even then thats too much. Sabres are likely going to hold onto him and not move him, for like the 4th straight offseason, because nobody is going to give up anything of value for him. Theres a reason they've tried moving him for years and havent been able to, and now hes just a rental.

Crazy idea that might backfire
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zyyyp</b></div><div>The fact that they're still a bottom 3 team 7 years into the rebuild after picking first overall twice indicates that something already has gone very wrong for them. This team isn't going to be fixed in a single offseason, there are a lot of issues here that need solving.</div></div>
I mean everything that could that gone wrong with the Devils this season have gone wrong. Their 1B goalie retired right before the season started, their top center coming into the season and captain has been out of the lineup pretty much all season, the entire team got destroyed by covid, then continued to be crushed by even more injuries and covid throughout the season literally to this day.
If you think the Devils aren't going to be a better team, even a bubble team, next season then you have no idea what you're talking about. Theyre already one of the best 5v5 teams in the league, which is very impressive considering how young they are. On top of everything mentioned before, they have been sunk by horrible special teams and goaltending. If those 2 regress to the mean and they maintain being a very good 5v5 team, they will be in the race next season. They likely wont picking in the top 10 again after this season

Crazy idea that might backfire
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zyyyp</b></div><div>awful idea. I would take a top 3 pick in 2022 or 2023 by itself over Makar, and that is a very realistic possibility.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>2022: Wright, Lambert, McGoarty, Miroshnichenko, Nemec, Fleming, Howard, Savoie, etc etc
2023: Bedard, Michkov, the younger Fantilli, younger Jarventie, etc
I don’t know if we want to sit those ones out.
Makar would be nice though.</div></div>
If the Devils are still in the running for the top pick in 2023 then something has gone very very wrong for them. They shouldn't even be in the running next year(2022), if we're being honest, they should realistically be a bubble team and end up picking in the 11-13ish range

Other way around.

You said McLeod has played more minutes against other teams top lines than anybody else. And that is just false. Zajac played more when he wss on the team and Zacha played more too. Maybe McLeod has the past few games with Zajac bring traded and Zacha being hurt? And in Zacha's absence it still wasn't McLeod, it was Hischier. So you're still wrong, and those minutes aren't even close to McLeod so you made that up or what?
Teams don't match their forwards up against opposing top pairings but they can avoid the matchup if they want to, especially at home. Which they don't. Johnsson also plays against opposing teams top forward lines more than McLeod does.

Centers more valuable.
And he is our only RHC.
Can take face-offs.

Can't ask Johnsson to do that - he gets sheltered more than anyone who is not a teenager on team.
Either way, I'd rather they take Merkley than Mango or Mcleod</div></div>
I mean, thats just not true. Zajac had the most minutes against opposing teams top lines, and after him its Zacha.
Its not even remotely true that Johnsson is sheltered when he faced opposing teams top D pairing almost triple the amount of time that McLeod does, and more than anybody on the team not named Hughes.
Johnsson can atleast fill into a top 6 role whereas McLeod is a 4c and nothing more, hes expendable and replaceable. Theres zero reason to protect McLeod over Johnsson. Zero

Kind of true for most devils.
McLeod fits longer term view. So keep him.</div></div>
That's not really true. His first 22 games are very comparable across the board to his last 23, im very similar minutes. Maybe slightly worse but not to the point where he's being carried by the start of the season. His underlyings have been consistent throughout the season
McLeod is a fine player, but lets be real hes a 4th liner and nothing more. He's replaceable. I don't think the team will expose Johnsson to just to protect McLeod

Advanced stats say quite the opposite actually. He's been one of the better forwards for the most part, which the Devils will take into consideration when making this decision

The numbers don't matter I guess - What makes Palmieri a better fit? This season hall leads him in almost every offensive and defensive category.</div></div>
Go listen to a podcast, or a radio segement, or read anything about the upcoming deadline? Its pretty widely agreeable among most people that Palmieri is a better fit for the team fit and culture wise. Idk what to tell ya man. Also not even to mention Lou's familiarity with him, he loves his ex players. I would actually be annoyed if Hall was our deadline acquisition, hes been riding the coattails of one good year in NJ and has been declining every year since. That year is clearly the outlier

When most fans talk about fit, they assume hall isn't good defensively and Palmieri is. If you actually look at the numbers hall is better defensively than Palmieri- pretty much puts that narrative to bed.
Sure money is a factor but lee is on LTIR and the isles can afford to take on hall with little retention</div></div>
Lol okay. So most people in the hockey world, not just isles beat writers, agree that Palmieri is a better fit for this team in Trotz' system over Hall, so i guess they're all delusional then? Got it, makes sense. I think you're the delusional one here. Palms is absolutely a better fit for this team, its not even a question. I'd give up more for Palmieri than Hall any day of the week this season.
I'm not talking about cap space, im talking about real money. Teams dont want to take on more money and are limiting how much they take on as much as they can. Palmieri is essentially half the money that Hall is, thats a big factor right now.
