foegele has played well enough this year that I don't think you'd need a sweetner to deal him. as for the wpg deal, its quite the overpay for guys that are at the end of their contracts

Like these moves. Still think the oilers need a b6 pk specialist C. Honestly Id prefer bjugstad over fischer. Most defensively sound 5v5 and great penalty killer on a real bad team with not support.
Low key schenn a great, cost-effective add. Got exp in a top 4 role that's a legit shutdown guy.

Chych will cost more, would need add min a b prospect going the other way
Edmunson looks to be commanding a 1st rounder in all likelihood, especially if retained

If we dont make playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KrakenTheCode</b></div><div>Looking at this piece by piece,
Because of the Kraken's forward depth, both Sprong and Yamamoto would likely be bottom six players in Seattle. Sprong has flat out performed better than Yamamoto this season in a lesser role. The difference between them in age is also only a year, so both could still be considered young players.
Both Sprong and Yamamoto still have RFA control, and Sprong's QO is only $900k this offseason, while Yamamoto's will be $3.2M.
Yamamoto is the better defensive player for sure, but Sprong has improved his game to become much more of a two-way player. I would say that the gap between Sprong's offensive output and Yamamoto's is greater than the difference in their defense.
That's all not to say that there's zero chance the Kraken wouldn't entertain a trade of this basic framework, but if they did, it wouldn't be for the reasons listed here. I could envision a scenario where GMRF decides to sell high on Sprong and buy low on Yamamoto, but in that scenario the Kraken would want a draft pick coming back to them, not going out.</div></div>
Agreed. Or a straight 1 for 1 could be a possiblilty as well

that barrie deal is brutal. hes currently at peak value right now. Point production crazy high, QB of the best pp in the NHL and defensively has even been good. you can get WAY MORE for barrie, maybe even a domi or part of a deal that bring toews.

you are trading rfa rights of a bottom 6 player for a hometown kid that is still young with a friendly QO that you still control for a few yrs that brings physicality and forechecking to the lineup

nurse isn't playing pp1, burns isn't in Carolina, dumba/spurgeon arent in Minny, provorov isnt in Philly, hedman isnt in tampa. Coaches don't give a crap about how much money a player makes. they focus on putting guys in positions where they are best fit. and barrie is by far the better fit on the powerplay over jones and its not even close

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SociallyHawkward</b></div><div>Lmao no he wouldn't. Hawks pp is in the bottom half of the league. He ain't taking pp time from jones either. He'd have single digit points on the hawks since they can't score. Mccabe would still easily be their best dman this season.</div></div>
Barrie would 100% take jone's PP1 time because Barrie is a top 10 point producing dman in the NHL over the last decade who is a powerplay specialist like few others in the league. Defensively he has been good this yr (although this is probably a blip). At the end of the day, its Chicago. There's legit no good dmen there minus a mcabe that probably has a hospital bed with his name etched on it with how injured he gets.. On a powerplay with kane, he will still be able to pile up the apples.

Based on his play this year, he would straight away be the hawks best defenceman. I think barrie is much more than a cap dump at this point

Everything else is terrible for them. They wouldn’t be targeting 2025 picks, they’d be targeting 2023 picks. And Pettersson and Hughes are both going nowhere, unless it’s a ridiculous overpay</div></div>
this oilers would not even remotely offer this for miller. they have enough defensively inept players on the roster why should they get another one? Holloway is a top 6 quality player already and those picks are better used to deal fro a dman with the leaky dcore they have.

people still havent caught on that reports and Holland have been very clear he is not moving JP for picks. he want a piece that can impact the roster right now, not picks that have a 20-30% chance of panning out into something close to NHL calibre

he'll cost Edmonton 2.5 at most. Holland has been clear he is not interested in picks and would want to make a hockey trade that impacts the roster right now. Oilers say no to any trade that is just picks because oilers are in win now mode. plus I doubt they will be interested in helping a western conference team get better.

um where areyou getting this asking price from. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leisen1104</b></div><div>why? Didnt both Engvall and Kase outscore him?</div></div>
at an 82 game pace JP outpaces both Kase and engvall and that's not even considering that this was considered to be a down year and he was elite defensively. Oilers are not giving JP for a fringe 3rd liner and a 4th liner that will cost a combined 5+mil at the very least with Both having tricky Arb rights cases with them as well. JP is by far the best player in the deal and it makes no sense as a hockey trade both in player quality coming back and cap implications.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>1. Connor Brown is one of the better defensive forwards around.
2. When your linemates hold possession of the puck more often, your opponents score less. That will look like successful defense in on-ice fancy stats.
Assuming both guys get fair extensions, I’d rather have Brown in most situations.</div></div>
1. Where is that information coming from lol
2. Fancy stats largely account for that especially when a player has played on multiple lines throughout a season. he player from 1st through 3rd lines throughout the reg season and we dominant in possession chances for and goal share when heis on the ice with all 3 lines.
I'd rather have JP, he still has the much higher ceiling, is basically in line with brown offensively (except JP scores more) in what has been a bad yr for JP and is elite defensively by all statistical accounts. and unlike brown JP isn't going to be paid close to a bloated contract. Brown is a fine player but JP by almost all statistical metrics impacts the game positively to a greater level than brown ever could.
