Couldn’t the Flames just skip the middle man here and offer slightly more than they are for Barrie, and get Severson instead?

IF Leafs are trading for Manson, it starts with either Dermott or Barrie (with extension).

Petry dish plus 2021
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jloose</b></div><div>read the explanation</div></div>
Your explanation is incorrect. Buying out a contract with that long of a term and cap hit on it is going to pack up the cap even more when the Leafs will need flexibility. Think about how nice it would be not to be retaining on Kessel right now.
You can't just put someone on LTIR because they're old or you don't want them. Also, operating in LTIR sucks and makes every move that much more difficult (hence the reason making for a defenceman right now is so difficult). There are real-life rules, you can't just make them up. This is a terrible idea and contract.

do you think this gets petry, ive been trying to analyze what he might get in a trade. mango and a 3rd for not a rental. it seems okay but to a rival in division ide have to expect that price to skyrocket right?

I'd prefer to move Johnsson but I wouldn't be upset with that trade either. Mayber Dermott and Johnsson for Myers and something minor would be a better option.

I like Nurse... but I don't know if you need to give up both Dermott and JOhnsson... maybe you would... I actually don't like it, nor mind it... its a good sign of a decent trade. I have the feeling Dermott is going to be this for his career... flashy, but a 4-5.
Hamonic signs for $5M+ on the open market
I think for the money, nother year of Spezza as a 3rd line C at 700K could work... maybe... but Pageau at that price is too rich IMO...

Neither team makes this trade for obvious reasons, but this is still one of the better Leafs/Sharks deals I've seen on here.

Ducky contd
To start with, basically you're exchanging Lindholm for Rielly, which raises three questions:
1. If Rielly is more valuable than Lindholm, why are the Maple Leafs doing it?
2. If Lindholm is more valuable than Rielly, why are the Ducks doing it?
3. If Rielly and Lindholm are essentially equal, why is either team doing it?
Then you have Josh Manson, Anaheim's only quality RD, for Johnsson and two not-quite-proven prospects. Anaheim has plenty of LW quality and quantity (Rakell, Ritchie, Jones, Shore plus Comtois and Tracey in the system), so the rest of this trade is a subtraction for the Ducks.

True, from a asset/cost perspective signing Barrie and keeping Liljegren makes more sense. But I'll disagree with you that you're getting anything of Pietrangelo's quality by doing that, even accounting for his age/expected decline.

I think it is a good start man. You are on the right track here. Think about it this way.... There is probably a team out there that would put the always sought after package of a 1st round pick + Roster player + A Higher Level Prospect together for a guy like Petro.
I do think that the the Blues, by their own actions are moving on from him though. They will either keep him for another run at the cup and let him walk or trade him to the highest bidder IMO.
Are the Leafs in a position to make an offer like that?
Ask yourself this question... Would you be comfortable with Tor 1st + Johnsson + Liljegren for Pietrangelo? Because someone else will offer a similar package for him if the Blues make it known that they are trading him.
Steep price. Great player! Thanks for posting.

As long as you're aware that there is a laundry list of things that would have to change to move Pietrangelo out of STL, I think you're on the right track with his value. I'd want something like Petro ($ retained) and Sanford for Johnsson, Liljegren, 2021 1st, 2020 pick conditional on Leafs' playoff results. (Bracco isn't a good fit for STL imo.) I don't consider it a rental price because I think the only way TOR would go after Petro is if they were going to extend him.

I think he can. I think it’s going to be a lot more difficult for the team to live up to expectations with this top heavy, offense first, approach.

Yet he still has 14-15 points leading the team. “He can’t live up to his contract” he’s on pace for 90-100 points so I think he will be living up to it.
