Trending down? no guy. 10 pts in 15 games aint bad. hes a 50-60 pt winger.
Ceci is just a salary move. it would be a middle six winger locked up for another 3 years, for 1.5 years of 29 year old defencemen.

just a place holder team tbh. always seems like the pens trade for a skilled winger to plug in the top 9.

Mitchy cant live up to his contract
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>blowing_the_zone</b></div><div>I hear, ya. But Mitch isn't just overpaid by 1.5 - 2M a year on the leafs, he'd be overpaid by that much on every team. I doubt Marner would fetch Dumba for that reason alone, not to mention that I think it's only the media who believed that Mitch can drive a line. I doubt many other GMs buy the noise that Mitch is a top 5 player in the league. He isn't. But he is a very effective and complimentary player when he's at his best - and that isn't just about putting up points.
I'm not saying we should lower expectations, winning a cup shoild be the goal. I'm just saying that expectations are a bit out of line with reality right now. The leafs have been a 500 team since December. And while the roster looks good on paper, they're not cup contenders with the way their playing right now. Something needs to change to get to the next level..
I thought they had a good effort last night. But Ovi isnt wrong with what he said about the leafs..</div></div>
Exactly, so what needs to change...?

Mitchy cant live up to his contract
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>blowing_the_zone</b></div><div>I think Marner is very likely a life long leaf, and that's a good thing cause he's a heckuva a player. He is having some struggles with his overall game, but like it was pointed out above he's on pace for 90+ points. So, points arent the problem.
It's true that the value of his contract compared to other players in the league kinda sucks, but that drama is over and we have what we have. No point in beating Mitch over his head with his very fat wallet..
The bigger problem, imo, is, like bcarlo points out, expectations. The leafs have more than a few things to iron out right now, but with the core they have they should be good going forward. It just might take longer than what we'd like.</div></div>
Love mitchy, I think the narrative that he "drove" a line is complete nonsense but hes a great player, especially on special teams.
I think lowering expectations is silly. The kids didn't want to take a discount, they got paid, now they need to produce. No more "it's a process", if your a top 10 paid player you better live up to it.
It shouldn't be viewed as taking any longer. Need to try and win with Tavares in the back half of his prime and Reilly/Freddy on good contracts imo.
Management said themselves it was 5 year process when Babs came in. That that got accelerated at different points throughout those 5 years (34 draft, tavares signing)
This is year 5...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafs_fan13</b></div><div>Yet he still has 14-15 points leading the team. “He can’t live up to his contract” he’s on pace for 90-100 points so I think he will be living up to it.</div></div>
Very aware that's its 12 games into his 6 year contract. But his contract will ever provide surplus value when compared to similar players and what they signed for (Rantanen, aho, point, tkachuk)
If you can deal from a position of strength to bolster the back end and also weaponize the extra cap space its interesting to say the least.
Not saying I'd do it, but worth a look.

I think you could get a better option at that $$ than Pysyk. (Hamonic, Tanev, Brodie)
or slightly cheaper (Demelo)
It comes down to 10-11mil for 2 UFA Top 4 defencemen.

Dermott is negligible (harpur gets buried).
You're accumulated 115K/day with both on IR. I could see Pridham running a 21 roster size at home and accumulating more cap/day
Hyman minus Aberg/Petan is an additional 1.5mil on cap.
There should be ample time to make a move before before the accumulated cap reaches the limit.
In that time they could look to trade Ceci with his value being inflated by playing with Reilly. Not to mention an injury could occur for LTIR relief
It's a bit of a long shot but if anyone would consider doing it, it would be Dubas.
Also an alternative would be a 1 year deal for Gards with a handshake extension in January (1x2mil, extended at 3x4mil)

ELC D or ELC winger, either works for me.
This D is pretty damn good, but I agree Barrie could be pricey.
But Barrie at a year younger then Petro and probably 1-2mil cheaper is intriguing. Petro has played some hard minutes for 10 seasons, might start to decline quicker than Barrie.

Also, Adam Larsson will never bring back that return.</div></div>
Ya i honestly had no idea what to pencil Larsson in at.
D men are always over paid, and two years from now with the cap rising I felt he'd get pay bump from hes 4.16 currently as a UFA

I'm afraid Muzzin's game may fall off a cliff as he's already 30 and not the fastest guy. Barrie's game would age better IMO but the price/term probably won't workout
