If you don't sort by GP, then Protas is 3rd, above Kuz and Dowd.
If you don't sort by even strength, Dowd is still 4th.
If you only sort by forwards, Dowd is 7th.

Hanifin isn't worth 8mil. He is 27 and teams will sign him till he is 34. Not worth it and even if he is worth it Rangers do not have the money to sign him to 8 mil. Lindy is worth 5.5-6 for 5 years. You are paying more for Lindy because its a 5 year deal vs a longer deal. If they sign Lindy for longer than 5 years its a bad signing no matter the aav.
About Buch teams trade players a year before UFA to get max return. closer to the end of the contract less of a return they get. The greatest return the Blues get will be trading him in this years deadline. They don't want to retain salary as they need to add players this offseason.

So if they trade him next deadline they get a prospect and a pick ?

Why would they ask for Othmann? They're going to ask for a Dman first before anything. And also no deferring the pick. But you are spot on about the 3rd, have no idea why the Blues would add.</div></div>
The reason for the pick going to NYR, all the other trades being offered for Buch is them retaining salary. This one you don't have to. Remember he has another 1 after this one.

As far as Kakko's next contract. His QO is 2.31m, which I would be happy to give him for 1 year. Schneider, Id top out at 2x2. Lindgren, 4.5x5. Quick 1x1. Call up Othmann. Youve got over 10m in cap space to find a 3C/4C and a 3LD. More than enough to pull that off.</div></div>
His QO is 2.4 and has arbitration rights. And we wouldn't sign him for one year because then he's a UFA. Remember he signed his first contract at 18. Which is why we did not sign him to a 3 year deal he would be a ufa. Laf's next contract will be big. Lindy is going to get 5.5 - 6 mil. Schneider is at the 2X2. So Kakko is the odd man out as you won't have money to sign him for an extension because of his unknown outlook.
Kakko is valuable now as far as trade who knows what next year will bring.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aecliptic</b></div><div>Monahan is not a two-way player. Lindholm right now does not look particularly amazing in Vancouver, granted I was definitely on that train.
The Rangers just need a 3C for the third line. Henrique would more than exceed filling that role. Cuylle, Henrique, Kakko would be a solid 3rd line. Obviously with your Buch trade, thats not an option, however, I dont think Kakko and a 1st lands you Buch. Blues are in no rush to trade Buch, so as has been said the offer would have to blow them away.
However, lets play with what you got here, I think Vesey is more than capable of playing with Cuylle and Henrique. Leaving Goodrow, Brodz, Edstrom as your 4th line. I think this is a totally capable bottom 6. What they should do is get a depth defenseman because I dont think Jones is the only Dman you want to have in your back pocket come playoffs.</div></div>
That fourth line and 3rd line isn't winning anything imo you also have to think about the future. What's Kakkos next contract look like ? Then add Lindy,Lafs, Schenieders we won't have money for all these players. It would be best to trade Kakko now with some value. I think if that trade is offered to the Blues they do it because it gives them cap relief which they need for years to come. It helps the Rangers as it bridges Buch to Otthman and Perrault.

My prefered TDL is Kakko + prospects + picks for Vatrano and Henrique both with retention. 3rd line is some form of Cuyle, Henrique, Brod, and Vesey. 4th line is some form of Cuyle, Edstrom, Goodrow, Rempe, Vesey, and Brod.
Obviously Dowd in some form "makes us better", but so would getting Crosby, McDavid, etc. There is more involved than just "better".</div></div>
did you really but Dowd and Crosby in the same conversation ?
You think that third line will be able to shut down the top players in a playoff series ? You don't know hockey one bit. Vegas won the cup last year because they had a third line with 2nd line type players. Its called depth ... something the Rangers do not have.

There are plenty of players in the league that arent cup winners and theres no way you would ever turn them away. So to use that as an excuse to over pay for a bottom 6, PK forward doesnt work for me. Brett Howden has a cup now, does that mean we need to revisit that? No. On the flip side, just cause players win cups doesnt automatically make them all of a sudden must have.</div></div>
Do you remember 1994 ? You would have probably been upset of those trade deadline deals Neil Smith made. without those trades we do not win the cup. I have faith in Brodz but hang my hat on it in the playoffs against Canes top line or Panthers top line or Bostons top line or Leafs top line I don't. We need to upgrade our third line with good two way players. Hence why the rangers wanted Lindholm asked about Monahan.

They have higher needs for their 2nd round pick, or in this insane idea, a 1st round pick.
The fact that he doesn't play 3rd line on a team with those centers the Crapitals have tells us everything we need to know.</div></div>
He's playing 3rd line minutes I don't know what you are talking about... So you are saying with Brodz for 3rd line is the way we go ? If you feel he's that good for the 3rd line .... what do you think he would do if he plays on the 4th line ? would be great hence why if we trade for Dowd would make us a better team. How good is brodz in the playoffs ? Dowd has history with Lavi and the playoffs. Do I think he's worth a first ? no but that's what it takes to get him on our team. He's worth more to NYR because he has played in Lavi's system. This team right now is good but not capable of winning the cup. Look at the 94 trade deadline the reasons for those trades weren't popular for a team that was #1 in the league but if we did not make those trades we would still be without a cup. This is the year we go for it the team is clicking and the changes we would be making would not change the chemistry. Most of these players we would be acquiring have played in the system and or with each other.

I think we would need retention on Buch for next year. Maybe even just 25%. Retention can go to another team if STL can't swing it. I think in general, Buch trade needs a little more from NYR.</div></div>
Dowd has a low cap hit plus he has rapport with Lavi which is what you need in the deadline players knowing the coaches system. We don't need a retention for Buch for next year. We need a bridge for the rookies that are coming up in the next few years ottoman and Perreault. Trading Kakko is a good thing we won't be able to afford him and laF in the coming years.

Back up Goalie for 23-24 is going to be Dom. Laf is going to get a three year deal as at the end of his 4 year deal ... he will be a UFA. He will get closer to 4.5 but depending on how he does this year. Key is going to get a 3 year deal more like 3.5 also pending on how he does this year. Chytil will be traded either during the season or at trade deadline. Blais won't be back because someone will give him more than that. We will have a decent amount of money for 23-24 IMO. Goodrow isn't going anywhere he is too valuable for this team. If he did not come back in the playoffs this year, we would have lost sooner.

I like that trade because it gives us cap space for Kakko and then Laf n Miller. I have been saying this for months. Either Chytil will be 2C next year or need to trade him. He isn't going to be a good 3C.

VAN just lit Georgiev up, theres no way he carries any value in the trade. Especially because they have Demko. I honestly dont think the Rangers have what it takes to get Miller unless Rutherford sees some unexplained value in Chytil. Maybe you dont make the Rakell trade and send Krav in the deal for Miller. However, I dont know, if I was Rutherford I wouldnt do it and Id wait til next year or for something potentially better.</div></div>
Van needs to trade Miller now, with his value high. End of season his value goes down. They meaning Van won't be able to sign him after next season. Best bet for them to move him at TDL for a contending team has him for two playoff runs.

I would do this trade this year... but would he accept ? and I think Strome signs for 5 mil for 7 years. And they won't trade Nemeth he will be bought out end of this season and it will only cost a mill next year and mill two seasons later according to this site. I see us getting Kane as like we got St Louis in 14. I would do it for sure.
