Potential Horvat trade destinations
oh my god. Islanders just traded 12OVR for Romanov. You think Horvat is worth 12OVR, another 1st and a former #1 OVR prospect who just put up a ppg in LIIGA as a 19 year old?
Please understand that you will be getting nothing remotely close to this for Horvat. These are waaaaayyyy off

Isles have ~$3.1M in cap space, so if STL retains at $3.75M without the Isles sending $ back, Tarasenko wouldn't fit.

i feel like an isles fan commenting in a thread where the primary trade is to the islanders even if it’s a leafs ACGM is literally the whole purpose of this website?

Aggressive deadline prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyIsMyPassion61</b></div><div>Show me where they've improved over last year? They finished 13th overall and haven't done a thing to improve their current roster this year. Even if Sorokin steals a few games it won't be enough.</div></div>
the Islanders finished 9th in the conference last year, not 13th (ie, they had the best record of teams that missed the playoffs in the eastern conference)
-they turned their LD2/LD3 depth chart from Zdeno Chara & Andy Greene into Alexander Romanov & Robin Salo;
-they are starting the season with both of the goalies in their tandem fully healthy and ready to go;
-they are *not* starting the season with a meandering 13-game road trip that prevents them from building any sort of rhythm;
-we are all hoping that COVID will not be playing havoc with this year's NHL games and forcing the Senators and Islanders to play multiple games with half their AHL teams on emergency loan because of positive COVID tests before the league actually postpones a game
And for what it's worth - the Caps are the oldest team in the league and will be missing Tom Wilson for a good chunk fo the year and Nick Backstrom for potentially the whole season; Pittsburgh turned John Marino & Mike Matheson into Jeff Petry & a guy that's playing in the AHL for them right now and is relying on a ton of guys in their mid/late-30s to keep up their level of play & stay healthy; and the Rangers go the way their goalie goes - if Igor struggles they're going to struggle, too. Carolina's good, though - they probably win the division again.

The isles lead the league for goals scored by defenseman. They upgraded with Romanov and Salo

Thread:
If Islanders fail horribly this year
While a goalie trade like this is rather unprecedented, even if the Isles were to fail miserably by the deadline, they won’t move their goalie of the future. The Isles would move Varlamov every day of the week and twice on Sundays before they would have the thought of trading Sorokin cross their mind.
While the Isles do play a more defensive style of hockey, which definitely benefits their goalies, Sorokin is still an elite goalie. 2 late firsts, likely about 22-24OA, a prospect, and a dman who hasn’t earned more opportunities for an elite starter seems like a bit of an underpayment. Especially since the Islanders don’t exactly have anyone at in their system at the moment to really replace Sorokin. The closest looks to be Skarek, but he seems to be 2, maybe more years out from the small amount of what I have seen. Besides, I am pretty sure that the Isles wouldn’t want to have to package one of those picks and someone like Sandin if they get desperate for a starting goaltender, much like what happened with the Avs and Kuemper. Doesn’t make sense for the Isles to do this trade.

Not perfect trade partners but Beau and Mayfield can both help you win now, or be flipped for more futures.</div></div>
Realistically I just don’t see a trade to be made there Canucks really have no need for Beauvillier and Mayfield isn’t a long term solution to D. The more I’ve looked at Islanders Canucks trades I really don’t see anything (especially now that Dobson officially is signed so surely Canucks fans will realize they won’t get him)

I’m confused on what the Isles are trying to do. They contending or re-tooling? They seem like a middle of the pack team right now
