For littlejerryseinfeld
<a href="/users/littlejerryseinfeld" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@littlejerryseinfeld</a> what am I missing here? They have the cap space and no notable UFA/RFAs that need to be kept.

Are you not accounting for the cap increase? I literally looked at them before posting this, they have the space.

What will Dobsons next contract be
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>The same reason werenski had leverage is why Dobson does as well. There’s no reason for him to take less than his comparables when no one on the isles has taken a discount relative to market value recently.
Dahlin was a slight overpay, but the market is the market. Young #1 defenseman are rare and get paid.
Seider hasn’t signed 8x8. Also Horvat has been very good this season but it doesn’t work that way where Dobsons ceiling for cap hit is a top 6 center who signed as a UFA at 28 years old.
I would love for Dobson to sign 8x8 but there’s not one contract I can think of that points to Dobson getting less than 8.5 mill. Point per game defenseman don’t grow on trees</div></div>
I thought Seider signed $8x8 already? Maybe I’m mistaken there. I have no doubt he’s getting a max term extension. I thought Pulock at the time was fairly team friendly

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>At the time of signing contracts , there’s not a player I can think of who signed below market value besides Pelech. Lou has given every RFA + UFA market value or above market value contracts.
Here are the #1 defenseman off the top of my head who have signed contracts coming off of a bridge contract
Dahlin: 11 x 8
Mcavoy: 9.5 x 8
Werenski: 9.5 x 6
Sergachev: 8.5 x 8</div></div>
Werenski had total leverage on CBJ as they had stars leaving the team left and right. He had to be overpaid to stay. I think Dahlin is a great player but to me that was also an overpay. I realize he didn’t bridge first but Seider signing $8x8 still feels like a decent comparable. Hoping for less, but I still don’t think Dobson will get more than Horvat’s $8.5

Less than Horvat’s IMO. I nailed the $4x3 bridge a couple years ago. Going $8x8 as my guess

Why would they touch a thing while on a 5 game winning streak? The only change I see them making eventually is Fasching for Martin at LW4

That’s fair. I just figured with Guentzel being added (plus the original talks) that he could be a guy on the outlook looking in depending on how Canes prioritize cap space

Standing Pat
Rosters expand and Isles have the ability to call up as many as that want now (as long as they stay under cap). I think Gauthier or Fasching should play 4th line over Martin. Wahlstrom won’t be waived yet, could still see him being a throw in to something done over the summer

Not a smart move.
As you can see from some of these deals today. Prices are not as high as everyone thought</div></div>
You have Buchnevich next year at a bargain price and the ability to extend him. I make this move 10/10 times
Isles are in the position they are because Lane Lambert should be in prison. They are finally looking like the team they were under Trotz, except this team is deadly at putting the puck in the net. If the Isles make the playoffs this year (likely IMO) I would not be surprised at all if they went on a sneaky "Panthers" run.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StDetroitBlueWings</b></div><div>Personally I don't mind it, not sure what other Blues fans say
However my biggest thing is a d-prospect missing. Anyone that projects as maybe a 2nd pairing defensive d-man to replace Dufour with? I've seen Bolduc a few times, which I don't mind but curious on who else the Isles may have as options. But with the retention I'm mostly okay with it as long as there's a d-man coming back with potential</div></div>
Isles are stronger in the LD department than RD. Bolduc is closest to NHL ready (has played games but still rookie growing pains). He’s also not waiver exempt. Probably our most exciting LD prospect is Isaiah George (London Knights) or Calle Odelius (SHL). RD there is not much there. If STL wanted a defensive prospect and Isles kept Dufour I would be fine with it

Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear 😂
Isles will finish the season 3rd in the metro. We have the games in hand on Philly (who are selling) plus a head to head matchup. Flyers schedule is brutal and Washington/Pittsburgh are also sellers. Plus, Buchnevich is a guy they keep next year at minimum

Is it possible someone shifts to wing? I saw Norris' injury the other night but lets assume he's back next year (even though he's apparently made of glass). Not sure that the Isles can make retention work unless another team steps up to do it. IMO Pageau is probably a $3.5-4m dollar player. But with the cap rising as much as it will be in the next couple years, that extra $1-1.5m is not going to be as big of a deal as it would be in a flat cap environment

Casey can definitely 3C. He looked so much better not being anchored down by Martin and Clutter. MacLean is a fine 4C

Pulock has a NTC so no guarantee he would waive. But aside from that I don't see the Islanders selling a guy like Pulock. The most likely player to move is Pageau. Scott Mayfield is not an RD2 at this point in his career and I don't think Timmins has much upside left at this point either. If a trade like this were to ever hypothetically happen it should simply be a 1st+high end prospect.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>If he’s a talented prospect, he would have made the isles lineup lol. He’s no different than Matthew Philips</div></div>
He hasn’t been a call up because his game is suited for a top-6 role. He is talented offensively but due to his size he is weaker off the puck. But his hands are sick and he has proven he has plenty of speed/scoring touch at the AHL level. The Islanders first/only call up was MacLean (to replace Cizikas). They haven’t had an injury to their top-6. Iskhakov is a complicated situation if you aren’t following it closely.
