Casey can definitely 3C. He looked so much better not being anchored down by Martin and Clutter. MacLean is a fine 4C

Pulock has a NTC so no guarantee he would waive. But aside from that I don't see the Islanders selling a guy like Pulock. The most likely player to move is Pageau. Scott Mayfield is not an RD2 at this point in his career and I don't think Timmins has much upside left at this point either. If a trade like this were to ever hypothetically happen it should simply be a 1st+high end prospect.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>If he’s a talented prospect, he would have made the isles lineup lol. He’s no different than Matthew Philips</div></div>
He hasn’t been a call up because his game is suited for a top-6 role. He is talented offensively but due to his size he is weaker off the puck. But his hands are sick and he has proven he has plenty of speed/scoring touch at the AHL level. The Islanders first/only call up was MacLean (to replace Cizikas). They haven’t had an injury to their top-6. Iskhakov is a complicated situation if you aren’t following it closely.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ordinarymutant</b></div><div>1. that offer isn't anywhere close to getting a player of pinto's caliber. a couple AHLers and a late pick in a weak draft doesn't get it done.
2. scouts being at a game isn't an indication of anything significant. there are always a handful of scouts at every game, often times not to watch any one team or player in particular. i wouldn't put any stock in what scouts are at what games.</div></div>
Maybe early in the season, but b2b games 10 days before the deadline? That holds more weight

Random comment but I trust your thoughts: Isles are scouting Ottawa for the second night in a row. Is there a situation where Pinto can be had? Thinking like a 1st+Wahlstrom as a starting package. Isles benefit from him making $775k and don’t need to offload major salary until the offseason.
Chychrun is interesting but would require salary (Pageau?) to move with a high draft pick. Tarasenko would be less but again would require retention+salary moving. I don’t see a guy who makes more sense than Pinto (and he’s a Long Island boy which is just a bonus lol)

Familiar faces
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MK_sens</b></div><div>That makes sense but here is the way I see it from an Isles POV... it's basically a Pageau vs Branny trade.
OK Reilly/Brann might be a wash for this year (Have not really seen reilly play tbh) but he at least has the potential to be a long term answer for you guys! Honestly I've been liking Branny's play this year (finally)... But for the sens there is just one LD that has to go.
I'd be VERY VERY suprised if ANY team gives up value for a non-retained PAGEAU, especially since he has a 16 team no-trade list... so getting Branny, a young up and coming D-man that fits on the Romanov/Dobson timeline is a good get for you guys. You can use the 3.5 Million cap space created by this trade to re-sign branny, that is probably approx what he will command on a long term deal.
Kubalik is a necessary throw in.
Kastelic gives you a 4C option, which neither of Mclean, Gauthier, Fashing.. really are. I jsut figured you would need an extra C since pageau is leaving.</div></div>
Reilly has been very good for us as a LD3. I'd be comfortable giving him a $1-1.5x2 extension while we wait for our prospects to grow. Sam Bolduc, Isaiah George, and Calle Odelius are all LD. I think we could get a pick for Pageau, doesn't have to be anything glamorous. Or maybe he's a "hockey trade" without retained salary going either way. I just don't think the rationale of Branny works here as well as you might and I want to avoid retaining salary

I would rather keep Reilly at LD3 than Branny. Kubalik is a pending UFA and we have enough of bottom 6 guys like Kastelic. Don't see why we are retaining 30% on Pageau for that package. I think if the Isles were to move on from JGP they can easily trade him without retention

What VAN paid still sets the market, and again Nelson has another full season of term at a very reasonable cap hit. He 100% returns a better package than Lindholm IMO

Beauvillier ended up being a flop but at least he was a younger forward with a track record of 18-20 goal seasons under his belt. I wouldn’t classify him as a cap dump. I also think Raty is a better prospect than anyone coming back to NYI in this hypothetical deal
For example, if Boston wanted Nelson (no brainer for them IMO) that package starts with a 1st and Lysell. Maybe the Isles take back an expiring contract like Forbort to make the cap work, but I’d prefer that trade over this one

Trade deadline
I'll start by saying I don't think the Islanders will trade Brock Nelson, especially within the division. But him at 50% retention it's going to run you a 1st, 2nd and good prospect anyways. Drury seems to be ok but not sure what his true upside is. As for Gunler, he seems to be an overseas prospect who isn't very talented. The "division tax" for Nelson (assuming they'd even trade him within the Metro) means it's going to have to be a higher prospect/pick than Gunler

Player by player breakdown - deadline to next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>I agree with most of these , but Anders Lee gets too much hate. He has been solid this season and is a big reason the line took off. He makes little plays to maintain possession in the ozone and gives Horvat/Barzal more time to operate.
Also pageau has not been an NHL level center this season. He’s one of the worst centers in the league this season. His line constantly gets dominated at even strength.
If the isles are trading their 1st it should be for a young ish top 6 winger not a 3rd line plug on a shooting bender</div></div>
Vatrano is definitely having a hot season but he’s been a consistent 18-20 goal scorer the past 6 years before this one. I’m not saying that’s the kind of playing you are tossing around 1st round picks for, but at a near minimum cap hit (in this trade) for 1.5 years you can justify it. Especially if it means building out the rest of the team.
As for Lee, I love the guy but he’s not a $7m player any more. I don’t think you’ll be able to trade him for much other than another iffy contract. His buyout number isn’t that bad considering how much the cap will be rising
