Retirement home
Why wouldn’t NSH just go sign Kane and Toews themselves rather than giving you a second round pick for two players they don’t need? In my opinion, NSH shouldn’t want any of these players with where they’re at right now, but they definitely shouldn’t give up a second for something that doesn’t move the needle.

That’s fair. I can’t imagine it’ll be Nashville though. Pesce is a great player, but NSH isn’t in a position right now to give up futures for a 28 year old.

Assuming you’re going after Karlsson, yes you do. Otherwise, why wouldn’t you just re-sign him?

Pesce has a 15-team trade list, which is going to decrease his trade value. Odds are Carolina will not be getting a team's top prospect and picks for him. The whole reason Carolina would move him would be for cap purposes, and teams know that. I doubt anybody is going to trade what some of these Canes fans on this site are expecting.

The picks and prospect are going to Toronto, not Nashville. Nylander is great, but he’s not worth that package.

Enough to dump Murray contract
Murray costs a 1st (maybe a 2nd) to dump, and Askarov is worth a lot more than the rest of that package. You can argue that Duchene is a cap dump as well, but Nashville has no need to move him right now.

That pick would also have to be a conditional 2nd that becomes a 1st if Nashville makes the playoffs. There’s no way Trotz moves next years first with so many unknowns going into the season.

It could bite Nashville in the butt, but he’s still unproven. I think he could turn out to be an elite goalie, but it’s not at all a guarantee. Nashville has also proven they can find and develop goalies. If they can move up and get a legit number 1 center it makes sense. It also hopefully puts a stop to all the Saros trades on here

5 FOR 14 25 Askarov Foote
I doubt you’d be able to get both of Nashville’s first round picks with Askarov included. I could see Askarov and 15 for 5. Maybe Montreal convinces Nashville to throw something else in, but I doubt it’d be the other first.

I have not watched him much, so I am genuinely asking. He does not seem to add much offence from the blueline, but I know that is not the be all and end all.</div></div>
He’s borderline right now in my opinion. Before the last half of this past year I wouldn’t have even called him a top 4 defenseman in Nashville. However, when all the injuries happened, he stepped up and looked capable of being a top 4 guy. I think this year will be huge for him in determining where his career goes. If he can build off of how he finished last season, I think Nashville has a good one.

I’d love to see Nashville trade up, but that’s too much. Kemell looked really good in Milwaukee. 2 firsts, 2 seconds, a third, arguably Nashville’s top prospect, and a top 4 defenseman is way too much.

Pretty sure he was just on vacation with Landeskog, who just so happens to be the captain of the Avalanche. I have a feeling if Duchene was as bad as you make him out to be, those two would not be friends. As for Ottawa, what have they accomplished without Duchene? I'm not even going to entertain the Columbus one. He was there for 23 regular season games, and Panarin and Bobrovsky had already made it clear they were going to explore free agency. Not only that, they also won their first playoff series in franchise history with him.

I feel like this take is a bit overdone. However, I do agree that this deal isn’t good for Toronto, but Nashville also shouldn’t be looking to trade next year’s first with so many changes in the past four months.

This tweet is the closest I've seen Michael come to mention trading with MTL.
When asked specifically about trading Askarov + 15OA for 5OA, he said this:
<div class="tweet"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Askarov isn’t going anywhere</p>— Michael Gallagher (@MGsports_) <a href="https://twitter.com/MGsports_/status/1672726078379503616?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">June 24, 2023</a></blockquote>
</div></div></div>
My fault. I didn’t read the full explanation in the proposal. You’re correct; the first tweet above is what I was referring to.
Even if Askarov and 15 OA had been offered, it’s highly unlikely that it gets leaked.

Michael Gallagher tweeted it. Trotz also had this to say today:
“David and I have been on the phones, everyone’s been trying to get into that top 4. I’ve been trying to make them uncomfortable but we still have a few days, things can change.”
Lebrun reported today that Trotz probably isn’t trading Saros, and I would think he’d probably have to be involved in some way to move up that high. I’d be very surprised to see Nashville move up that high.

There's not much here that Nashville would want. The 1st is nice, but they could find something better than 14th overall for Saros.

The state of the franchise is much different than what it was when PHI offer sheeted Weber too, though. I wouldn't be surprised if Trotz has something bigger up his sleeve. He wouldn't have just dumped Johansen and helped Colorado for the heck of it.

It's a great trade for Colorado to get a potential 2C for $4M. It's a good trade for NSH to open up $4M in cap space. It's a bad trade for every contender who has to worry about Johansen bouncing back on a cheap deal with a contender.

I disagree. I think if an offer like this came through they'd have to take it. Two really good prospects, a 1st, and a 2nd should be plenty for NSH in my opinion. I get that a center makes more sense than another wing, but I think this offer would be too good to pass up on.
