If the Ducks Move On from Zegras
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>The fact that you see three firsts here, and the fact that you think all firsts are the same, are emblematic of the myopia that afflicts many Habs fans.</div></div>
Calgary 1st in 2025 (is a 1st)
Justin Barron (2020 1st, Pick 25)
Filip Mesar (2022 1st, Pick 26)
Owen Beck (2022 2nd, Pick 33) = Almost a 1st
I am not saying Anaheim wants to trade Zegras. But that is 3 firsts and more. And no 3 1st rounders have the same value. We understand that.
In reference:
Jack Eichel to Vegas:
16th overall, 17th overall, and 18th overall pick coming back to Buffalo.
What would you like from Chicago for Zegras?

I can see us trading Armia and getting some value back. Dvorak we might need to wait trade at the deadline

Habs say no, just because they can't retain that long on Anderson.
They likely only retain going into his last year of the deal and see what they get the.

Matheson is one of the best players in the league at what he does. I don't see Hutson outplaying that for a long time. We might even be one of those teams with 2 defenders on our #1 PP

No reason to buy out Dvorak. Newhook is a winger for the team long term (Beck 3C), so no reason to move Dvorak unless its for a late round pick at the TDL

Matheson - Savard

Harris - Kovacevic
One of Kovacevic, Struble, Harris and Xhekaj will get traded. If not, we just keep it like this and roll like we do this season. A big rotation between Struble, Xhekaj, Harris and Barron.</div></div>
Barron Harris and kovacevic out ( but not for late pick)

They don’t. There’s a very short list of players who are worth giving up a potentially elite 1C on his ELC. Montreal doesn’t have any of those players making a trade for the Celebrini pick impossible.

Habs aren't gonna be the ones adding, if both players were on a similar length contract then the deal would be 1 for 1 with nothing added but since Rakell has an extra year, the Pens need to add the 2nd round pick to even out the deal

Habs aren't adding, it would be the Pens who add just given that Rakell's contract is 1 year longer. Habs would be looking for a 2nd from the Pens to compensate for the extra year

Montreal getting a 3rd (possibly a 2nd) for our 3rd string goalie is absolutely insane. It makes sense for NJ, but they had all of the leverage, and Montreal still got value

Exactly this. Sure I'm not a huge fan of his asset management as of late and some (like you said) have the potential to turn sour but the dude has made us great at the right times.

Where do we go from here - JBB confidence check
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>Well it's an injustified ungratefull vibe. TB is the most successfull franchise in the league since Brisebois became GM. Last time I checked, they are still in a playoffs spot even if the goalies sucks and Sergachev is out. TDL isn't even done and you want to fire him already? Come on</div></div>
Pretty sure nowhere did I say I wanted him gone, all I asked was if he could do something good with 10 million in cap space in the off-season. I'm just trying to see what the general fan consensus is about the what's probably the most crucial upcoming off-season this team has had in years. He's had some questionable trades like Jeannot for sure, left a few fans like myself puzzled with moves like with the Goodrow, Jeannot and now Duclair trade, but I mean I'm not calling for his head to roll if that's what you're on about. Sure I've lost a bit of faith in him over his decision making (Blashill hire, pick management, etc) but not to the point where it's become uncomfortable for me as a fan, I'm still grateful he got us B2B cups and 3 straight finals appearances.
It's good that he's adding, very good in fact, and I'm sure he and management like any other hockey ops dudes know more than any of us here. All I'm hoping for is that he makes the right decisions with what he's got to work with lol
