Something a bit more realistic
The Leafs better hope Marleau agrees to a trade and does not retire. If he retires they would get stuck with the cap hit (even if he is traded).

Panarin
These trades just aren't worth it for the lightning. It doesn't get Callahan off the books and letting go of Sergachev (who is a low cap hit for this year and next) for a rental of Panarin is not worth the incremental cost of the rental on Panarin from JT Miller. The Lightning could likely move Miller for Faulk and include a 2nd for some cap space being retained and keep Sergachev and a 1st rounder.

Package Miller and Callahan wherever they can get Callahan to agree to at the draft.

Also good luck getting someone to take Marleau's contract for you. You care going to be needing to part with some serious picks/players to get these off your books.

Karlsson won't work for the Lightning. I am okay with the trade, but the Lightning have too many important RFA's to re-sign without bringing in an expensive UFA. I think Karlsson would be worth the money, but the lightning need it elsewhere.

Lightning can't do that trade unless it is conditional on it being a '19 or '20 pick.

Playing the middle man for Tampa and Columbus
Lightning are not interested in this trade. It really does not provide cap relief moving forward and gives up quality cap-controlled prospects.

Deadline moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>quinnjj</b></div><div>No one is giving up a 1st for Ferland.</div></div>
A first from Penguins is like a high 2nd. I think that is actually pretty reasonable when you figure he will provide hitting and turnovers which is important in playoffs as the series go longer and it gets deeper. Honestly I think he would be worth it. I wouldn't want my Lightning playing against Ferland for a series. Guys will not hold onto the puck as long and will be sore by the end of the series.

Yes to Carolina, no to Columbus. Package the 1st from the Columbus trade in and add Ferland to Carolina trade. 2 roster players in 2 roster players out.

Ferland is going to cost more than Jarry and a low 2nd rounder. Say goodbye to a first.

No, I mean what does Carolina get if Ferland re-signs. Why does your logic not cut both ways?

I think the lightning would be best picking up Ferland to take out half your team. This includes "Glass" Matthews

Please trade for Gudas, the Lightning would tear the Leafs apart. Unless he learned how to pivot to his right without falling down, I would laugh the entire first round of the playoffs.

Cap dump and getting space for rental and sign Point next year
Callahan is not waiving for that trade. I could see Arizona making the trade after the playoffs knowing he is going to retire and take the cap hit for some package. But that would only be if the Lightning win the cup. I don't think the Lightning need to / should make any large trades this year unless another team seriously loads up. But the Lightning need Sergachev's low cap hit next year and can find a way to get him some money after Callahan's contract comes off.

That's what I was saying. TOR fans think he is going to take that and TOR does not have the leverage with Matthews that they did with Nylander since Matthews is going to max the Offer Sheet compensation anyways and he will likely be worth it for a team who is not going to be a lottery team.

Picking up Matthews
If they did that would tie up alot of money which they need to be spending on their D. If they do that then they would need to say goodbye to Marner and possibly more.

Other teams can force Toronto's hand. It's not like these guys wouldn't be worth the offer sheet compensation. Matthews can tell TOR to give him whatever he wants because there are alot of teams who would give that compensation. I could see him turning around MTL, NJD, STL could make space for him in addition to NSH (plus that would have him playing the in the west coast so he would be closer to home without having to play on Arizona's team.
And you are telling me that Marner wouldn't sign a 5 year deal vs a 7 if it meant he could make 10 million vs 8.7 and then re-sign while he is still in a prime window for a max value? I could see a team like Calgary pulling the trigger on that.

Can't include that pick. It is reserved for NYR until we either win or don't win the cup, which will occur after the TDL.

Offer Sheet Kap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Malloy</b></div><div>Likely not, but if they want to move Callahan to make room this year they’re gonna need to attach something</div></div>
Cernak is ready to step in for some of the departing D and will be a lot cheaper than what a replacement cost player would be. The lightning would be better off buying out Callahan or attaching a draft pick than to trade Cernak or any other cheap D ready to step in.
