I think Hamilton would probably get closer to Carlson or Pietrangelo numbers, considering he probably isn't even the best defenseman on his team.

That's true, but they also probably won't be able to keep Holtby with Hischier's deal kicking in next season.

Blowing 3 leads going into the 3rd..... in 4 games. Does that seem good to you? Average mediocre hockey maybe what you enjoy but I’m not a fan of this soft type of hockey.</div></div>
Exactly. 4 games. To panic after 4 games is a major overreaction. They have a lot of new players. It’s probably going to take some time to adjust everyone. Nobody is getting fired right now.

Firing a coach after getting 6 of 8 points against four quality teams is a very weird overreaction.

The Caps cannot afford to just throw a year away by promoting whoever is at Hershey. The Caps core is too old to wait for next year. Also, it was two OTLs against teams that are going to make the playoffs after two good road wins to start the year. If they get their powerplay figured out, everything will be okay.

My take on the 20-21 Caps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>staytru20</b></div><div>I personally wouldn't trade him either, unless it was for a great package in return. I think it's more a question of what we do with our two near-NHL ready defensemen in Alexeyev and Fehervary. I think Kempny is too important to this team defensively to trade. I'd like to see either of Fehervary or Alexeyev play on the right side in Hershey to see if they can play their off-side.</div></div>
I think we have time with both of them. Gudas will probably be gone next year, so there's a spot open there. And Alexeyev has unfortunately had some injury history, so you can't go all in on him just yet.

I think that's overpayment for a rental of Hall, but it's intriguing that they could get him. I'm a Caps fan so I don't want it to happen, but he'd fit right in with their style.

My take on the 20-21 Caps
Yeah Orlov looks really good this year so far (I know it's early), but I think he's gonna have a bounce back year without Niskanen. I wouldn't trade him. If you let Holtby walk, that alone buys you a lot of cap space to work with. I don't think you have to make a drastic move like trading Orlov, especially when you're going to be having a few ELCs on the roster.

My thought is that Crawford will retire because he's had such an injury history these past few years. And I wouldn't want the Caps giving him two years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LGBstl</b></div><div>Agreed they are very similar players.. Carlson got 8.5 and that was what 2-3 years ago? So with the rise in cap and Petro being older I am guessing its a 9-9.5AAV at 5-6 years.</div></div>
Carlson got 8x$8mil (in the second year of that deal now), and him and Pietrangelo have almost exactly the same career point totals. Maybe a bump up to $9mil a season because of some of the crazy deals defensemen have got since then.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Max27</b></div><div>You just said that Gudas was better than Niskanen last year... Niskanen was a beast a year ago... a down year isn't catastrophic... and he's only 32... he can still have 2-3 good seasons</div></div>
And very importantly, the Caps got a younger, better defenseman while reducing the cap hit by over $3mil.

I don't have much problems with the top-4 tho... the issue is the depth</div></div>
Gudas is by all metrics better than Niskanen. Nisky's play fell off hard last year. It's gonna be that 6th spot that's a question mark, but Siegenthaler showed promise last year, and the coaching staff is very high on Fehervary. It's not their best D group ever, but it's solid enough with that forward group.
