Not anymore after Subban left. This team has at least one top pair D-man on every pairing.

this is a playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrandonMcD11</b></div><div>Avs don't really have the goalie to do much damage. They got better up front but lost a major factor in Varlamov and I don't see Gurbauer being THE guy. Blues wont do that again...Binnington had a great run but id be willing to be he regresses quite a bit, Jets lost Trouba, Chiarot, Myers and Hayes. Not saying Chicago is going to walk intot he playoffs but the other teams will not be as good as last year I'm willing to bet.</div></div>
I think Grubauer has the tools to take over. He was phenomenal towards the end of last season and the playoffs. He also always had great numbers in Washington. I think last year was the last year of his "development" and I predict he'll be a great #1 starter. Not Vezina caliber, but good enough with all of the offense the Avs can throw at people and with their great back end.
I don't think the Blues will repeat, but they didn't really lose anyone except Maroon. They're a very solid team top to bottom, and Binnington looks like he has the tools to be a solid #1 (again, not Vezina caliber, but really good). It sucks to lose Trouba and Myers for Winnipeg, but their forwards are still so stacked (I believe they'll get Connor and Laine deals done) and Hellebyuck is a solid goalie. Preds and Stars got better in my opinion this offseason.
I don't envision Chicago being a top-5 pick again, but it's all going to depend on 1.) Will Keith and Seabrook be paper weights again? 2.) Can Lehner repeat last season/Crawford stay remotely healthy? and 3.) Will anyone in the bottom six contribute anything? Their top six is stacked of course, so maybe Kane/Toews/DeBrincat/Strome drag the team to an 8th seed, but I feel like that is the toughest division in hockey. Even the worst team (Minnesota) isn't a complete disaster, so there's no easy night anywhere in that schedule.

The Avs are stacked, the Blues and Jets are great teams, and so are the Preds and Stars. The Central is probably the hardest division in the NHL and will almost certainly send five teams to the playoffs. Chicago is not walking into the playoffs unless something goes very wrong for one of those five teams.

2019-20 Capa Start Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>For the Caps' sake, I hope the Sharks agree with you on Stephenson and Boyd.
As for Couturier's massive natural talent, over the last three years he's hardly played a shift without Giroux. Over the last three years, Giroux has 54 more points than Couturier. He was drafted high, and may have more skill to keep developing, but so far I see a terrific checking center being carried/mentored offensively by a franchise wing, and fans gushing like crazy about it, like, boy, how did Couturier get SIXTY points again?!? Gee, I don't know. By playing next to someone who got eighty, and only messing up half the time?</div></div>
Or, Couturier is just entering his prime. Back to back 76 point seasons when you're 24-26 years old is not someone who is being "carried" by a teammate. Eller is going to be 30 when the season starts. He is not going to magically put up Couturier numbers at his age. Eller will get a solid 30+ points and play good defense, and that's fine. But He is not going to put up 70+ even if you put him with Ovechkin.

2019-20 Capa Start Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>They have enough depth on the wings that their centers will be enough, yeah. Eller at 1C could still turn into Sean Couturier. If not, Boyd has good puck movement, or Stephenson has good speed, faceoffs, and defensive positioning, and a left shot like Ovechkin's used to playing with. It'll be tough to get Stephenson to clear waivers, though, if he's got a point streak going when Kuznetsov comes back. :)
Edit: Oh, and I feel like there's someone we're forgetting, who can play with Ovechkin pretty well. Can't think of his name, though. Swedish guy? Hmmm.</div></div>
Eller is not going to magically become Couturier at his age. He doesn't have the offense. He's a very good 3C, but that's about his ceiling. And Stephenson and Boyd are not going to be centers in the NHL. I like Boyd's skill and their speed, but they're 4th line wingers.

The NHL does not operate under the authority of the IIHF. There’s also nothing in the CBA that allows for an NHL suspension based on IIHF testing. Since there is no actual crime here, the worst that will happen will be Kuzy having to take some drug classes.

No, he still signed with the team. If anything, it makes it worse if you trade players immediately after canning the GM just because the old one signed them. It makes your franchise looks unstable and then no one will ever sign there again.

I find it strange and concerning that this team only has 1 right handed forward
I don't really think it's that big of a deal for forwards. They tend to be a little more fluid position-wise in the offensive zone than defensemen. Defensemen it's a little more important for clearing from behind the net, but even then it's not the end of the world.

One of the dumbest things about people on this site is that they cannot grasp the concept that teams do not trade players they literally just signed. That is the quickest way to ensure that no free agent ever signs with your team again.

A P-Riskie Cap Fix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>netminder71</b></div><div>100% correct. It has been long rumored that the Caps were seeking a compensatory pick for his rights...maybe CAR played hardball and will now get him for nothing. Poop on WSH for mismanaging the prospect and good on CAR for playing the game well.
Good luck to Chase I think he has NHL caliber skills.</div></div>
I don't think it's "mismanagement" of a prospect. This just happens sometimes with college free agents. The Caps have a ton of D-prospects in the system right now, and they're in win-now mode with Ovie/Nicky/Holtby/Oshie all getting older. It was just unfortunate (for the Caps) that Priskie decided to stay four years at Quinnipiac. And Priskie said in the spring that he would not sign with the Caps, so why would Carolina or any team trade a pick when you know you can get him for free after tonight? Priskie might be a solid prospect, but he is not game-breaking NHL talent. The best the Caps could've hoped for is maybe a 5th or 6th rounder, which are close to worthless anyway.

Easier cap fix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>staytru20</b></div><div>Yeah, I'm not super happy about trading him, but looking at the roster as constructed, I think he's the contract to move. You could potentially send Boyd down, but you'd have to bring up another forward anyways. I'm a bit more comfortable moving out Djoos with Alexeyev and Fehervary being pretty close to NHL ready. If there's a long term injury, we can bring one of them up.</div></div>
Agreed. I think Siegs has passed him on the depth chart anyway, but I'd like to see a healthy Djoos back in action and see what he can do. It's not every day you can have a cheap young defensemen who was a part of your top-6 in a Stanley Cup run.
