Hakanpaa was a great bottom 4 piece on Dallas and had some underrated metrics. I don't think they'd pay him and a second to downgrade to a washed Myers even if he has retention. That's insane. Hakanpaa is already better and they are essentially paying a second to downgrade.
The Yotes trade is meh, whatever. I doubt they'd be interested in a career AHL D in Rathbone after they just acquired Dermott to fill a bottom pairing role.
St. Louis probably passes because Beau has a small sample size. Kapanen was looking pretty solid in their middle 6 so I think they opt to keep him and try to get him to bounce back.

Is that a joke? He's solid but two firsts and good center prospect and a roster player on an expiring deal isn't enough? This is a massive overpay

Build around Pastrnak
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>Did YOU watch him in 21-22? Lindholm was nowhere near Selke level and the people who had this argument of winning over Bergeron were wrong. Not just because Lindholm wasn't at the level, but Bergeron has pretty much the best defensive season in the last two decades at least. 2021-22 was more of an outlier season for Lindholm especially playing with two elite wingers. He is more of great 2C than an actual 1C. Fringe 1C who needs strong wingers.
$9M is way too much, it's not just a slight overpay and injury or not, most non-elite forwards regress a lot in their 30s and Lindholm is unlikely to be an exception. Second, it doesn't even fit the Bruins timeline. If you have him as your 1C, you would need a really strong 2C (not Zacha) behind him on a real contender.</div></div>
While I agree that Lindholm isn’t perfect and in an ideal world he’s not my first choice for 1C I really don’t see any realistic alternatives considering that Aho and Matthews are unlikely to become free agents
The other possibility would be to attempt to trade for an RFA like Petterson or even Beniers but neither of them will be available and if somehow a trade did happen we’d be giving up way too much
If not Lindholm who else?

I'm not much of a Mittelstadt fan, and I agree that his time here is limited (hopefully. Sometimes I hear adams talk about Casey being part of the core and I think he actually means it). Having said that, there's nothing in that return that I want.

What Armstrong should have done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jwg314</b></div><div>Leonard alone is easily a better pick than Simashev, then you add all the rest. I give ARI's draft like a C- but these moves would have made it like an A-? Could be even better if they picked Musty or even Perreault at #19. I'm not optimistic of But.</div></div>
So I thought about the same thing after the 1st 15 picks... Why didn't Arizona entertain a trade down with the Caps?? Only 2 spots, they still would've had their guy and added a pick or whatever. The only thing I can come up with is the Caps weren't obsessed with Michkov and had Leonard higher. They're were reports Michkov wouldn't get past Philly so they def knew he'd be gone at 7. I think it comes down to that.
However I don't agree Simashev is a bad pick or that Leonard is better (or realistically, will be better). I think we will be looking back seeing a defensive anchor Arizona got like a Seider, just good at everything. Incredible skating and hockey sense but at 6'4. That's a dream really. We just hate they used the 6th pick for him haha. If they went Leonard 6, then Simashev 12 the general all knowing public would be happier lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jwg314</b></div><div>How do you feel about the pick trades?</div></div>
I didn’t deep dive too far into it, if they are building a big strong tough to play against squad and they got who they wanted at 6/12, I’m all for it. They went off the board large, but if they go off that large, I’m sure there is competition for those picks to mess with who they wanted, detroits pick at 9, was mocked all the way from 7 to out of the first round, so lots of differing opinions on the different values outside of the top 3. I’m kind of glad they dodged michkov, I thought they may run to podium at 6 for him, then bounce back at 12 for a dman. I believe in your theory, but sometimes you just have to go get who you want especially with the abundance of picks going forward.

I think this is a pretty realistic approach.
Vrana at 1.3m would have immense value assuming he is scoring at his career pace per game and isn't missing time like he has been of late. I could certainly see hesitance to move a 1st for a guy with recent question marks, but you wont a better goal scorer that's affordable to almost every team cap wise and isn't going to cost an arm and a leg.
Kapanen, also fairly reasonable to expect a 2nd + a little.
Back and forth on Scandella, but that profile of player is typically traded for a 3rd-5th every year in volume.
Bortuzzo would be a great depth add for a team that needs PK support and veteran leadership + experience
I think we tend to undervalue Leddy and Krug's body of work. Their contracts aren't certainly ideal, but they have alot of playoff experience and Krug has a pretty special skillset on point production. Could realistically see something like this being benefical just to clear open roster slots at around those time frame. I don't think the Leddy deal is a back breaker though if we have to push him down to a 3rd pair role. However, he doesn't really do anything spectacular enough aside from skating to really need him for a lot of teams unless they lack a #4/5 LD.
Don't think Peeke would be a direction the Blues would go, but I certainly could be wrong. It's not really bad value for either team unless Hayes plays great here, then I'd expect a bit more.
Saad reasonable, but very dependent on what Pittsburgh does and what direction they go. Could see him to a number of teams that need a contributing 3rd line guy they can trust in almost all situations. Cap hit really isn't that unreasonable. Little high for a 3rd liner but certainly not back breaking.
I don't think the Blues will go the direction of adding a guy like Chytil who will probably progress into something more at that point. I'd have to imagine the plan of progression for Dvorsky is pretty tied to Schenn at the center position. Schenn will probably hold down the 2C spot until Dvorsky is ready, or they may go a route in which they look for a stop-gap 2C if they are contending by that time as a rental/short term option that they can slide down like what the thought process with Bozak was prior to Buffalo accepting the ROR deal.
I'm not sure i have as much faith as you do for Tucker and Perunovich to be long term pieces to the team. I think Perunovich gets a shot this year or next to prove something. After that I'd bet they are pretty hesitant especially if they can add a top end LD to allot cap to a specialist. Having a specialist puts alot of pressure on Parayko's pairing when Faulk is hit or miss in his own zone and requires OZ starts as is at ES. It's alot of the root of our current issues. It could possibly work if Perunovich/Krug are able to play more minutes with Faulk and you can run a pretty heavy defensive 3rd pair, which is what i'd imagine we work back towards next season assuming Krug isn't moved before camp which is fine by me.

My prediction 3-way
Sanheim makes no sense for St. Louis. He’s locked in for 8 years and he isn’t that good (better than Krug, but still). Laughton and Hayes are redundant pieces, so only one should come over and that’s Hayes. If our goal is to gain cap flexibility, the idea of getting Sanheim, Laughton, and Hayes makes no sense for only one big contract moving out.
