Yeah, Kotkaniemi has more potential, but he hasn't done a whole lot with it in three years. He's even taken a step back from his rookie year. But I'll grant you that I agree Montreal still doesn't make that move. However, for similar reasons, Minnesota doesn't consider Poehling and a 1st for Greenway. Poehling is only a couple years younger than Greenway, and he's not even close to the player Greenway is, and Greenway still has some potential himself. A late, late 1st isn't enticing enough to trade Greenway for Poehling, who does very little for us. As far as better prospect, I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone outside of Montreal who would prefer Poehling over Beckman at this point. Beckman has exploded since his draft year as one of the top scorers and top rising prospects in the WHL.

I think he ends up around 1-2 years for 1.5-2.5M, personally.

For Kemps it was all in his head. He had more skill, better movement. and positioning than Dub ever had in MN. It's just as soon as a puck went past him he'd fall apart.
Goalie KK isn't near as polished as Kemps. He's a scramble goalie, but seems to need to be playing to be effective.

Soucy has been a good 3rd LD, but he's been protected by Suter and Brodin ahead of him. I'm not sure he's a top 4D.
We need prospects and our cup window is at least 2 years away. I'd keep the first.</div></div>
The team forgot to show up in a few of those really bad losses (6-0, 9-1, and 7-3 last game of the season) plus he was getting a game maybe once a week. Also Talbot was bad to end the regular season too (sub .900 sv% his last 14 games).
The more often goalie KK played the better, or more consistent, he was.

No neither do I. I’ve tried to solution out all sorts of options that keep us competitive, but it’s very tough with those cap handcuffs.
Trading Zucc, Dumba and/or Greenway doesn’t turn us into contenders, but obviously the general idea would be to flip them into prospects that align with the Rossi/Boldy arc.

So I don’t hate the idea of Hertl either, but lately I’ve been struggling to justify it. Like the above team is definitively not a cup contender, and we know there are impending cap issues, so it’s seems counterintuitive to give up assets for a rental.
Its underwhelming, but I think we just need to patchwork center(s) with UFA and then look to trade off some salary next year via Zucc, Dumba, Greenway.

Yeah because we have 145k in cap space with no 13th forward or 7th defenseman, no money left to meaningfully upgrade the roster in any way in the next 2-3 years, you can't give anyone raises, you desperately need cheap talent and you traded Boldy and three firsts away so you don't have any.
Hockey is a team game. Winning the Cup is about having guys playing above their contracts. Most of your money is going to guys who can not realistically play above their contracts.
Eichel is a great player. If we could sign him as a UFA for 10M this summer without giving anything up for him, we still probably couldn't without losing a good piece or two to the salary cap. But trading for him compounds the issue because of what you're also giving up to acquire him. He's just not worth it, even though he is a true 1C.

I understand that but teams care about real dollars in the short term when trying to make the cap floor that particular year and not long term like 3 and 4 years down the road.

If the ask is 4 top picks or prospects, then it is Sturm and O'Rourke to take Parise... which doesn't get it done on Buffalo's side. If they drop the ask for Eichel, then maybe... but as a Wild Fan l have a hard time trading 4 prospects/ 1sts ... it really hurts what we can accomplish 3+ years from now.</div></div>
It typically takes a lot to dump cap (just look at when Toronto dumped Marleau to Carolina with 2 years at ~$6M hit) so that's why I think the price of dumping him to Buffalo for buyout purposes probably isn't worth it. They'd be on the hook for a lot of cap over the next 4 years, and basically a depth player for 4 years after that (think it's like $800k or so for the last 4 years of the buyout). If I'm Buffalo I'm asking for a truck load to do that

Russo commented on this a few weeks ago and you're right. Mutual termination means no more contract or recapture. But it also means that Parise says pass on 10 million dollars. I think he'd only do it, if he knew he could get a contract with a contender.
The more likely route is trade and buyout.

He’s played quite a bit of center over the past 2 seasons. Malkin and crosby have been injured quite a bit over that time, especially malkin. He’s definitely better on the wing, but a capable center.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Aero_Astro_Guy</b></div><div>Ok. Now that is resolved. Due to my unfamiliarity with the mobile version, I looked at the bonuses line instead of the cap space line and this thought that we have 1.5 mil left. On McCann, Pens fans say that he is capable of playing C and I think that I believe them. We ll live we ll see. In the worst case scenario, we obtain a fringe C for a pure wing. I still think that Rask is worth a 4th or 5th, but people become crazy when I propose a trade like this and I don’t wanna waste assets to ship him off. And keep in mind that we should somehow help Evanson not to play Rask on the 1st line cause looks like he does not understand how bad this decision is</div></div>
Rask would have value if MN retained half of his salary, but then it's not really worth trading him unless they needed $2m in cap space desperately.
I have no interest in McCann. The 3rd line center/wings just don't work out, it's a jack of all trades, master of none type of thing. If he was a quality 3C then PIT probably wouldn't have traded for Carter (he was a steal of a trade though).
Konecny is just more of what MN already has and just takes away from cap that could be used on the team's needs. For example, Sturm might be the 2nd best center on this roster.
