My Top 3 RD Targets
top 3 available through trade but if you're going to give up significant assets for a D, the list begins and ends with a godfather offer to calgary for andersson. if that's not in the cards, i think you load up a two year deal for severson or dumba. we have the cap space until extensions for quinn and peterka kick in, and i believe that ryan johnson can be a top 4 D with dahlin or power because he's a defensive defenseman who, like samuelsson, can focus more on their end while power and dahlin are more of the puck movers. johnson was drafted high for his high level skating and ability to shut down plays in the neutral zone. he was great in college even though the gophers played a lot of defenseman. at the very least, i think he's going to be a good 3rd pair anchor.

Negligent overpayment for two incredibly old players, and what is at least a slight overpayment for a third line winger. Pass.

Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeneralLandro</b></div><div>Certainly not getting a 2nd from us for Johnson</div></div>
They (or whatever team trades for him) will get a compensatory second round pick if Johnson doesn't sign. So, they will get a second-round pick for him one way or another. I agree though that Anaheim wouldn't do this because they will most likely be able to sign him without giving any compensation (He played for the Jr Ducks growing up). I could see a good west coast team making this deal as a flyer to see if they can sign him. The Avalanche or Golden Knights could make this trade to make Johnson say no to signing with them. If he does say no then they would get the compensatory second (which should be around 64) so they would only be moving back slightly from the pick that they trade to the Sabres.

Not giving up Rosen for Chychrun, other good prospects to choose from that aren't even in are top 10. And I already get a 2nd in Johnson walks, rather sign him, which I am 80% sure happens, unless Adams makes a few D acquisitions or use him in something else. And that Edmonton trade why not just get JP instead.

He is the top scoring D-man for the Quebec Remparts and the second highest +/-.
He may be another one of Jeramiah Crowe's late round gems.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lsendel3</b></div><div>Only way he’s sold for that low is it’s a favor to Zemgus himself. No one thought Goodrow would get a first from Tampa at the 20 TDL. Zemgus isn’t that valuable but he’s worth way more than a fourth at 50% and would be beat by many teams.</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kclar</b></div><div>No chance Buffalo trades Zemgus for less than a 2nd. They'll most likely resign him for next year.
Unless he says he wants out & wants to go to Pittsburgh (not completely unlikely), I think he stays.</div></div> I think Zemgus will be a Sabre next year,
His Salary is a good indication of the value that that Sabres place upon him.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pens3lieve</b></div><div>I mean his username is “little Jerry” and he sure is acting like it lol 😂

I wouldn't break up a line that's playing that well. He's the perfect 4C and would probably be fine at 3, but 4th line isn't broken, 3rd line is, so that's what I'd try and fix.</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>LOL a 2nd?!?!? You're going full Habs fan here.</div></div> So you find little annoying yet you respond to him.
Let that sink in for a bit.
<strong>First</strong>, if Hextall were to acquire Zemgus, would Sullivan not pair him Blueger to take advantage of the Riga connection?
<strong>Second</strong>, Since Teddy and Zemgus have the same salary, what do you think would be a fair value for Teddy?
Well that is what the Sabres think is a fair value for Zemgus.
<strong>Third</strong>, while it may be unlikely any team would give a second for Zemgus, unless he requested a trade (as <a href="/users/kclar" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@kclar</a> suggested) it would take a second to pry him out of Buffalo.
28-17-21 are really good at controlling the puck in the offensive zone.
<strong>Finally</strong>, Since the Sabres have figured out how to win with 3 AHL defensemen in the line up (Clague, Fitzgerald and Pilut) I suspect when Power, Jokiharju and Lyubushkin return they will do even better and Zemgus' price will go up.

1) Even so, I highly doubt he does.
2) The Wild currently have 7 defenseman under contract for next year, and <em>still</em> have RFA Middleton to re-sign. Pilut isn't wanted or needed. He does nothing for us.
-----------------
Sure it does, but we would still need to move out at least another $5M in contracts to keep Fiala.
It's much easier, and smarter, to move out Dumba and one of Kulikov or Jost to get to the required $8M to reasonably keep Fiala.
