Flat Cap and No CBO Bruins Edition Revision 1

Like bhavikp27 already reminded me of is that Grizz already took a bridge. He's super smart, fits with McAvoy pretty well, he needs to show more offense in my mind. I just can't see SweeNeely keeping $3m+ on the sidelines.
If DB got a Konecny contract, 4x4.5 and Grizz a K Miller 4x2.5 one I'd be happy.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>I'm not sure what kind of deal the Bruins want to do with Grzelcyk.
He signed his 2Y ELC, became regular second year. Then he signed a two-year, $1,4M deal (bridge deal?) that ends this year. He's 26. If he signs another two-year deal, he'll be UFA at the end of it. I know cap is probably staying flat and Bruins don't have much space but I would try to with a long-term deal, personally.
He already signed a bridge deal two years ago.</div></div>
True, he did already sign a bridge. I like Grizz, I can appreciate what he brings but it is limited. Best case scenario he's a Jared Spurgeon only left handed. There is a huge premium on RH D. There are also so many 5' nothing LD (this coming from a 5' nothing athlete). He hasn't done enough to differentiate himself. Even with Krug we are trying to figure out how to justify keeping him at a reasonable number and he is an elite PP guy.
Grizz within in the term of his next contract (2-4 years) he will have to fend off Zboril, Lauzon, Vaak, Achan, Zech, Moore plus who knows who else. In my mind anything over $3m seems like a mistake.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>Good deals for DeBrusk, Bjork, Chara. If Grzelcyk takes that. Krug won't sign a two-year deal, even with a flat cap. Highly unlikely.
Vladar will probably sign a two-year deal and that's if he's ready to be the backup. Focused on NHL roster so that's why you're missing Zboril and Senyshyn I guess.
Already told you what I think of getting McGinn so
And Studnicka, if he makes the team, he plays. Otherwise, he's in the AHL.</div></div>
I'm struggling with Grzelcyk's next deal. He's not better then Carlo, the cap will probably be flat or a roleback of some sort. How can it be justified to give Grizz more then Carlo especially if he is bridged?

Bruins won't have 3.3M in cap space after signing Krug, DB and Grizz. Just not happening.
I like McGinn, nice idea. I just think the Bruins are deep at fourth line. Guys like Gaunce, Senyshen, B Ritchie, Lindholm, Kuhlman, Hughes and Frederic are all capable. McGinn seems like a luxury.

I like the thought of Rakell in Boston and even Manson would be nice but there is no way the cap would work next year. Krug, Chara, Chara's bonus money, Debrusk, Bjork and backup goalie. Plus you only have two spares. Sweeney wouldn't do that, he loves depth.

Because Johansson is a UFA after his contract is done and Heinen is a RFA. They would retain because Boston needs it to take Bogosian on also. You take Bogo out and it's an overpay for MoJo even with retention.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>Was not putting words in your mouth.
So you want right shot and cheap. You just eliminated 80% of the list. Nucks would not move Virtanen when he stunk. Now that he is showing signs of life i doubt they’d move him. That leaves Fischer and Anderson. Neither team has any reason to move them other than they have been disappointments. Fischer would be cheap. He’s also been terrible. Anderson, who knows. He’s the one that best fits the bill of what you are looking for. Maybe switching teams would revitalize him. But outside of last year he was never really that good either. More of a 3rd liner. He could thrive on Boston’s 2nd line. Or he could ? the bed and be just another on the list of failed RW2 over the last 4 years. I’d feel better if he was being acquired for the 3rd line.
Toffoli was the guy i wanted last year (well Eric Staal was, TT was 2nd choice) along with Coyle, still want him. I think he would do well on 2nd line. Was more attractive with term then as a rental. Cap space is a huge problem though. If LA is retaining and/or taking salary back to make it work it will push the price up further.
A few more options might pop up as teams fall out of the race. But this year is a lot thinner than last years market.
The other route is get a 3rd center and move Coyle to RW2. Probably where he will be next year with Studnicka taking 3C. That is another option, in house. But i think a 3rd line of Stud centering Heinen and Bjork would get eaten up in the playoffs.
They need some beef, or at least someone to drop the gloves and protect the lineup as well as a RW2.</div></div>
I see it much the way you are here. TT seems like the best fit that is probably available, maybe Kase, not sure about Kovalchuk. Unfortunately we don't get any inside info and I have doubts that guys like Virtanen, Anderson, Rakell are even realistically available. My first choice is Anderson.
Agreed that a 3c may be the best option. Who that is I haven't a clue, Sweeney plays his cards tight. The best option might be in house with Stud and Senyshen.
To clarify what my thought of cheap would be a 2nd, 4th and someone like Heinen, Cehlarik or Zboril. Salary needs to be sub $4.5-2.5 for 1-2 years.

Next Year
I think the contracts for Krug and Grizz are high by $0.5m. I'd rather have Halak back, he's been a great fit. Not giving up on Senyshen just to get rid of Backes, he has looked pretty decent in his short NHL stint. He checks to many boxes.

Karson Kuhlman? They didn’t.
Thanks but i’ll pass. If i’m trading for someone mid-season I’ll take the established guy. You play the lottery. We’ll see who turns out better.</div></div>
First off I didn't say which player I preferred outside of a right shot, so please refrain from putting words in my mouth. Now you have changed the tone of the entire thread. I'll continue in the interest of conversation.
I think you are wrong in the assumption that a player like Palmieri is automatically a much better option then say Bennett for a Bruins playoff run. What many people don't realize is that Palmieri gets almost half his points on the PP. He's not getting PP time in any significant amount in Boston let alone he might not even be available. Who here prognosticaticated MoJo last year? He worked out well, didn't cost a lot to acquire and wasn't lighting the world on fire before he got to Boston.
Even strength scoring, ideally a cheaper right shot Brandon Saad that won't break the bank. That's what I want. Signed for two years max. I created this thread to try start a conversation and find players that I'm not familiar with that could be options. Not for posters to say there are only two guys that will work.
Edit: Yes that last line is hyperbole. Cheers.

Fair assessment for most. I'm leaning towards the bigger right shot players as a better fit. Will probably just come down to how much the Bruins are willing to part with. Salary retention will be needed for Zucker or MoJo.

Agreed that some of these players are in the bottom six currently but all it may take is the change in scenery and playing with Krejci.

Disagree, they are both good signings. Both right shots that can play C and RW (wagner lw also). K. Hayes got $7m+, sure makes that Coyle contract look good. Bruins need a C to span the generational gap between Bergy/Krejci and Studnicka/Beecher/Frederick, Coyle is a perfect fit.

Zucker won't get any PP1 time in Boston and PP2 only gets about 30 seconds. Decent player, if Minny retained $1m it might work. Bjork has a very good chance of being a similar player at a much more cost effective rate.

Hayes is my comparable and Coyle is a right shot and can play the wing. Great deal. Bruins players that stay show how much winning is worth to them because everyone on the team takes a pay cut to stay and be competitive.

The Coyle contract is good. Did anyone see what Kevin Hayes signed for this summer? Coyle plays RW in a pinch and will be the intermediary between Bergy/Krejci and Studnicka/Beecher. Just the fact he is a right shot and can play C/RW is worth it. Most people don't realize the premium a right shot player is worth, almost like a lefty pitcher in baseball. That's why Wagner got a new contract and Nordstrom won't.

Other teams probably will. Krug has to decide how important playing in Boston is to him and whether it's worth $1-2m less per year. Everyone who plays in Boston takes a pay cut to stay and be competitive every year. Otherwise you end up with whatever is going on in Toronto right now.
