mittelstadt
Too generous, Mittelstadt might be worth a first but no more. He's a good player but not elite, so a first AND a second plus two prospects is TOO MUCH.

overpaying for retention
Why not? Podz would be behind Boeser, Garland, Hoglander , Karlsson and soon Lekkerimaki plus others, depending on who is re-signed.
Bjugstad is a big all-round player. Plays on both PP and PK.
Lybushkin is a hard-nosed RHD who kills penalties.
There are already several reports that the Canucks are interested in Duhaime.
Duhaine is fast, competes, plays on PK and he FIGHTS. Someone has to take some of that burden off Miller, Joshua and Zadorov. I don't think Lafferty can handle it all.
I think all 3 can play the style that is required in the playoffs.

Tuch will be too old by the time the Sabres are contenders, Lekkerimaki is too young to help the Canucks while they are contenders.

I guess it depends on how NJD values Podkolzin, and whether or not they feel they are going to make the playoffs/

Over the next 3 seasons the Coyotes have
3 - firsts
10 - 2nds
7 - 3rds
4 - 4ths
3 - 5ths
3 - 6ths
4 - 7ths
Just want players and prospects I think, besides the Canucks need to clear some cap space

Neither of those players is worth a second and I'm offering two seconds just to take a player, for one year, who isn't the player the Canucks need right now. Mikheyev is fast and defensively responsible, an elite 3/4 liner.

I understand what you're saying and why you're saying it, but I think Joshua has earned at least some time on the second or even first line.
There should be no such thing as an "untouchable" line or player.
Coaches and GM are always, supposedly, looking to improve their team.
If Sissons wasn't working out on the third line, I would have absolutely no problem with swapping him with Joshua.

a different ex-Pen
This makes sense to me on many levels
Zucker has more than twice as much playoff experience as Mikheyev, and at $3MM he wouldn't be so overpaid.
Kolyachonok can be sent down without waivers, which is not true of any of the other Canucks Dmen, other than Woo. He also has a little bit of NHL experience.
If they don't resign Zucker this clears $4.75MM in cap space for next season, as compared to keeping Mikheyev.
Kudryavtsev is payment for the retention.
Canucks probably have at least 4 NHL quality centres to start next season - Pettersson, Miller, Suter, Aman plus possibly Lindholm and Blueger, so I'm not convinced Raty would crack that line-up.
Who are the dozens of NHL ready wingers?

Kessel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bdb</b></div><div>Nah, they just see it as adding depth with low risk & low cost. He's clearly a very smart player and knows Tocchet well, I suspect he'll be in and out of the press box but come playoffs he might be huge.</div></div>
it's not like they can just take him out of the press box whenever they have a powerplay. Signing him would be a waste of cap space that could be better spent.
He played just 4 games in the playoffs last year and was a healthy scratch for the rest, so how would he be "huge" this season? Has he gotten better as he aged?

Kessel
Signing Kessel just takes cash and cap space from other more important positional needs. Not to mention ice time from players who earned it, Kessel hasn't earned one minute of ice tome with the Canucks.
Don't mind the the trades though it seems a bit of an overpay for Walker.

No Canuck fan cares if Kessel ever reaches 1000 points.

No, it isn't. The Canucks weaken their defense and their future to pick up an underperforming winger? Not happening.
Toronto would have to add to make the Canucks even begin to consider this. If they want Zadorov then they will have to PAY for him.

Getting Phil Kessel would be doing this team a disservice.
They DO NOT need a 36 year old egotistical winger who hasn't played in months.
There is a reason that he is unsigned.

Maybe, but he costs nothing and has a ton of playoff experience (105 G ), most of it with Pittsburgh.
The Canucks can take a chance on him, they can waive him if it doesn't work out.
What is Duhaime worth with 50% retention?

adding other elements
Mikheyev is not a physical player. Speed is his element, but I think physical play will be more important than speed going forward.
I don't know exactly what a fair price for Anderson is, with retention, but I do think he is exactly the type of forward the Canucks need.
For me it's tough to suggest losing Friedman, I think his surprisingly good play saved the Canucks season.
