yea but thats because people on this site dont actually have a real grasp of player value, start to see the value difference between what they think will happen, then the actually trade itself in real life, if you would have suggested the tkachuk trade before it happened people wouldve said youre moronic and thatll never happen because flordia would reject it all day.

Returns for Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>klaw2</b></div><div>I mean I definitely agree, but there have been rumours that he is available.</div></div>
Those rumors were mostly present leading up to the draft, in which Trotz was trying to get 4OA or 5OA. When that didn't happen, the likelihood of Askarov being moved essentially fell to 0%. With the buyout of Duchene, Trotz is either looking to make a big move this offseason (e.g. some local writers have been bullish on offer sheeting Zegras) or tank, with tank being the more likely option. With a rebuild for NSH on the horizon, the future in goal is secured. Its a matter of building around that now.

I think he is worth more to us that he actually is worth though. I think he will be solid and can potentially be on a good contract producing if he is used properly

Random Thoughts - NYR Side
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Root</b></div><div>Rangers reject. Miller is a top LD, Laffy is a top LW for Nylander a top 6 C/RW. Robertson and Goodrow have the same value, mind yeah at least Goodrow will play for you unlike Robertson being on the IR.
I wouldn't trade you Laffy str8 up for 1 year of Nylander.
I wouldn't trade you Miller str8 up for 1 year of Nylander.</div></div>
I'm not a fan of either team of any of the players involved. I'm as unbiased as they come here.
Nylander comes with an 8 yr extension, so you actually have him for 9, not 1.
Laf is not proven to be more than a 3rd liner at this point, but has upside to become top 6. Nylander was 20th in league scoring this past year and has 74 G the last 2 seasons, which is certainly top line quality. He can also play C in a pinch while being a RH shot which NYR only has 1 of out of its top 6 wingers.
Miller is a top 4 Dman, but not a "top LD". He could become a 1st pairing LD, yes, but I don't think anybody is expecting him to be a Norris contender at any point (which would make him a "top LD").
Lastly, Goodrow here is a cap dump, actually. Robertson has relatively low value in the scheme of things.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>klaw2</b></div><div>Flames too
Us as Leafs fans definetly do.
Ducks fans on here especially also do.</div></div>
As a Ducks fan, I gotta think you're referencing the bazillion John Gibson trades, since nobody tries to trade for anyone else on our roster :tearsofjoy In fairness to us though, what's the point of moving him if there's not a good return? It's not like we aren't a cap floor team, so his cap hit isn't an issue and likely wouldn't be for the duration of the contract.
I'm surprised nobody has referenced the Rangers here yet...The Eichel saga was hilarious around here :tearsofjoy
To answer the original question though-Everyone overvalues their players/prospects. I mean, why wouldn't they? I'd say the vast majority of fans get their knowledge from click-baity media types which is hilariously dangerous...watch the draft and listen to the hilarious player comparisons that they do-If you don't have the time to actually look into/follow some of these prospects, and Craig Button is telling you that "Prospect McProspectsalot, the 7th round pick out of Bangladesh" is the next "Patrick Kane", then why wouldn't you simply run with that? Sounds a heck of a lot better than "This 7th round pick is definitely a hockey player, and his odds of ever sniffing the NHL are almost as low as your odds of getting in a plane crash.

I have never seen a trade with any pieces moving out of Calgary that you do like. For years you have over valued every Calgary player I don't even pay attention to any of your comments anymore.
You must have really flipped your lid last year when Calgary didn't resign Johnny G and traded Tkachuk!!

No need for cap space. They have plenty right now and next year. Plus a pick in the 20’s isn’t really a deal breaker for Thai trade. Bennett is far more valuable to them than a late first.

I think we all want Meier on the Leafs, but don't see how we can outbid New Jersey or teams with better prospect pools. Kane might just be the next best option and cheaper to acquire

This is what people think the Leafs have to pay to add players, while their teams can get them for much less. AKA the Leafs tax.

For a lot of reasons (lots of impact players likely available, limited cap space amongst contenders), I think (hope 🤞) it’ll be a buyer’s market .
Wings fans (in particular) seem to think if they don’t get the return they want, that can just extend their pending FAs. Pretty sure it doesn’t work that way - most players test FA rather than accept extension this late in the game</div></div>
Yep, totally agree. I think it trending more towards a buyers market like you mentioned is an important factor, especially paired with limited cap space amongst the teams looking for upgrades.
Also, something not mentioned too much is NTC/NMC protection from some players on or off of this list. We’ve seen it play out in the past that returns are limited bc a player only wants to go to a certain team (recent examples are Giroux and Hall).

Not bad starts, just need to be doused with reality a bit.</div></div>
That is pretty much what the rumored price for Chychrun would be... add on in this scenario the Leafs taking $5 million off Arizonas IR list (to somewhat lower the trade return) then this is exactly the type of deal Arizona being a budget team would be benefitting from

Anderson and Toews should not be getting 1st rounders as part of a return.
Anderson should have negative value to be honest, but 90% of NHL GMs are idiots.
Toews should fetch a 3rd rounder at most. He sucks now.
