You're right but maybe Ruff wants to play it safe and rest some players... Kuok could also be an extra skater but because opening night is against CHI I would think the decision is to have 7 d man to contain their offense.

what you're also forgetting is we have to sign Zacha, Wood, Bratt, Jack next year + Smith & Blackwood eventually. Meier isn't worth 10 obviously; probably like 7-9 range, but I'd rather have core pieces together and guys moving up in the org than just paying for 1 forward with our Captain whose health has been questionable the past 2 seasons...

My point is we already have 2 centers to build around and if Zacha can play center in Ruffs system followed by Mikey on the fourth line not only would it be lethal it would be balanced.

Because I would rather have Holtz/Mercer perform at a high level for cheap then spend money right now... you're not wrong in that they have chemistry but if the cap isnt going up anytime soon we should continue to draft and stockpile assets.

Mercer looks legit and just what we need right now! Hoping Holtz can make the team and stay in the show.

Cant see the Devs pulling the trigger especially if Holtz/Mercer/ any F prospect pan out... I know we've been tied to him but cant see it happening.

My counter to your counter would be Holtz needing more time to develop, I think Mercer makes the cut but if he doesn't more time in the minors cant hurt for development especially if Vesey keeps up his pace.

Also I think the expectation for Holtz is a top 6 scoring F... if he ends up like McCleod/ Wood its not necessarily bad you just have to have a scorer on a team with the amount of playmakers we have
