Interesting deal with EDM, you may need to retain on a couple of those contracts though. Not sure they're willing to move Holloway, unless the retention is good enough.

I don't think the caps are a good trade partner for Mitts. They want a bigger D in his late 20s. If Jensen was 5 years younger this would work.

Selling At or Before Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>Carberry is absolutely not the problem. The problem is a roster full of old, slow guys who can't keep up with the pace of today's league. A lot of the changes Carberry's made (more passes breaking out of the dzone, more of a zone defensive coverage, etc.) have proven to be quite positive. He's finding ways to win games the Caps have no business being in.
If the Caps are able to clear all this cap space, yes they can now afford to add a top line center and others, but who do you get? It's apparent that Elias Lindholm isn't a true 1C, and there's nobody else that may be a UFA that fits this description. If GMBM goes the trade route, who's going to be available? Maybe Zegras? Even then, he hasn't proven to be a true 1C either. And what assets does this team really have to go get a guy like that?</div></div>
Agree the issue is age and effort, not Carberry

Caps trade for Garland
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>I love Garland as a player and think this makes us a lot better, but I wonder if the term on Garland's deal makes us shy away. I get the sense that the cap going up + Mantha's expiring deal means the Caps could look to use that money to make a splashy FA signing (Nylander?)</div></div>
This is the one reason I think the caps should just ride out Mantha’s contract. There are some really interesting names out there on the trade front, but the cap space this off-season could be huge if they just hold him and let him walk in July.

You’re right. But if there’s a change, I think it’s trading Laffy if he has another below average season

Dumping Strome on the center depth would be a mistake, he played very well.
Backstrom's mind might still be at a high level, but for sure his body ain't.

I'm guessing the logic is Fantilli might be able to help bring Ovi another cup but with Michkov it would be up in the air whether or not Ovi is still around when he comes over.

Absolutely you take Fantilli over Michkov. While I think both will be superstars you get Fantilli earlier and he's a center. More valuable.

Yeah I think gmbm will need to keep a few of these players to field a semi competitive team after tdl so I image all those you mentioned could go also.

CHI accepts. I'd like to say Kane is worth more, but I am so done arguing about his value. In the bigger picture, this is good enough. It helps the rebuild and if CHI really wants Kane back and he wants to come back, they can just resign him in the summer.
Also, yes, with Backstrom and Wilson coming back, WSH can probably afford to sacrifice a little size.

Saying that the Kings are a "team that isn't good defensively" is like saying Scarlett Johansson is somewhat attractive. (I usually say "Salma Hayek," but I've rung that bell enough.) The only teams that had given up more goals at the 20-game mark were four teams behind them in the Pathetic plus St. Louis plus bottom-feeders Arizona, Chicago, Columbus, Ottawa, Buffalo and Montreal. And none of those teams, obviously, was in a playoff slot. And we've only played 24 games, but given up EIGHT goals in regulation TWICE. Thank you for being gracious.

I like the change of scenery swap but still am hoping Zadina can pull a Tage Thompson and just have an absolutely incredible breakout season. Tage went from fourth line production to top line production in one season. Hoping something similar happens here.
I think that trade is good for the Leafs.

Sell at the Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>All_Knowing</b></div><div>McM has shown that he is not NHL ready, especially this season. I truly do not get why fans blame Lavy on this and think McM should be playing.
McM is not an everyday NHL center right now. He does not have a terribly great shot, does not finish, does not have great defensive positioning/awareness, isn't lightning fast, is not physical, isn't fantastic on the dot, and cannot play on the PK, as a bottom 6 center should. There is nowhere at center for him to play, as I would take Eller over McM all day, solely because without Eller, there is a MASSIVE hole on the PK (since McM cannot play on the PK). McM number, when he does play, have been ABSOLUTELY terrible.
I do not think the Caps should move on from him, as he is 21 years old. But send him to Hershey - give him big time minutes, and then next year hopefully he fits into the 3rd line.
And for the record, Vrana was a healthy scratch under Trotz many times. I don't think during the Cup year (maybe playoffs as I know Burky was a healthy scratch a few times), but Trotz was not the biggest fan of Vrana...Reiden was not either</div></div>
Vrana played 73 regular season games and 23 playoff games during the Caps Cup winning season under Trotz. He also played all 82 games the next season under Reirdon. Anything else you'd like to pull from your arse? You know nothing.

It's the best fitting change of scenery trade both ways I've seen presented yet for Zadina

Detroit says "sure, why not?"
Zadina really just needs a change of scenery I think... he's done everything right, looks great every night he plays and then you look at the score sheet and go "oh, damn, again?!"... he's just been absolutely snake bitten and now he's hurt, from doing things the right way - blocking a shot...
I feel for the guy and just want him to get a fresh start at this point...

Detroit accepts. 😁. I think the problem is Lavy. He won't play him. Hard to get out of the doghouse when you don't play. I know CMM has had some injury problems. But I think a Zadina for CMM swap could be good for both teams. I think Newsy would be a good coach for CMM. Lavy didn't like Vrana either but Trotz had no issue with him when he was on the Cup winning Caps team.
