<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>There was the TSN report that the Caps are one of the few teams he'd likely want to go to, but I don't know how much value that holds. I think it's a situation he'd enjoy, being able to play with the greatest goal scorer ever and his old buddy in Strome. That power play unit would be unreal</div></div>
Yeah, there's certainly something there that could be attractive to him, but let's say they don't look like a lock for the playoffs or goaltending is suspect, or something else that might suggest to him that going there won't give him the best chance of winning. That's what I meant by it depends on what position they are in, are they in a position to win. If he thinks yes, then they might be an option or perhaps there's some more attractive locations.
I'm sure though he would love to be on that powerplay. I can also see him going to a playoff bound team that might not be a contender but that he's interested in signing with.

would still much prefer someone they could reasonably extend like Hertl, would be completely fine w/ McMichael + 1st for Kane. You are right that another truly elite forward is what they need rn

The caps definitely seem like a better fit than a lot of teams in terms of Kane fitting into the lineup. Kane setting up ovechkin can be absolutely ridiculous

thinking out loud
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>In my head at least, most of those contracts end up being a little larger than I would've thought, so I tried to play into that here. I'd love to save more money and go for a guy like Tarasenko to pair with either Strome or Lapierre, but it'd put the Caps in a bind into next year. My guess is that a top six scorer would be brought in at the deadline if the team is competitive.
Another part of the Fehervary and Strome deals was thinking to when the inevitable rebuild will hit. Potentially gives the Caps a few nice tradeable assets post Ovi.</div></div>
Great points all the way around

This team looks pretty solid, I'd say. I would love the Fehevary deal, but I think they go with a bridge deal. My prediction would be you are slightly off on some contract costs (but what do I know lol).
My prediction:
Fehervary: 3x$3.25mil
Orlov: 4x$5mil (maybe 3 years)
Strome: 4x$4.25mil
Other than that, I like the team. Could use the additional money for a top 6 scoring winger.

The Future
I think this is pretty solid. My only changes would be :
1) Hathaway won't be back: as much as Lavi loves his veterans, MacLellan has actually been pretty good about not re-signing middle six types right before they fall off a cliff (beagle, chiasson, dsp) and I think Hath will be able to get more money elsewhere
2) In this scenario where you re-sign Brown and let Jensen walk, they use up most of that 6.5m on a defenseman. Severson, Sanheim, Dumba, Dunn, Klingberg, and Weegar are all as of now about to hit UFA, and I think they could really use another bona-fide top 4 guy to round out the d-corps and let TVR continue to dominate 3rd pair minutes. I could also see them re-signing Jensen for around 4x3, not re-signing Brown, and then going after a top 6 winger with that same 6.5m. Tarasenko, ROR, Pastrnak, and Patrick Kane lead the pack of upcoming UFA forwards but even if they don't go for one of those four there will be plenty of options and the ability to take on a cap dump for free a la Pacioretty.

don't understand why so many people are hating on the MoJo signing. He can play any forward position and is getting $1.1M. You can just bury that contract in the minors if you have to.

If it makes you feel any better, Montreal wouldn't trade Allen for a 3rd.

This would be an incredible offseason. Still a little wary of giving up so much for gibson, but I think everything is pretty realistic and fair

Love Gibson, that trade makes sense. Would rather keep Vanacek than Samasonov, but that's just me. The Eller trade makes sense, I just don't see Calgary being the team to do it. Down the middle, if we're going to sign a free agent center, I like Strome over Trochek, but that's being nitpicky. Trochek is a great player. Nichushkin is a stud, and i would be really curious to see him on the right of Ovi and kuzy. LuJo had a great AHL season this year, I think you're right having him on the third pair. I'd like to see Alexeyev there, but I think LuJo gets the first shot out of camp. You can probably do without Larsson, that role can be filled internally by Snively, Leason, Protas, etc.
All in all, this would be a very nice offseason.

If you want a goalie of Gibson's <em>perceived</em> caliber, it's going to be pricey in a trade. Especially with a fair amount of goalie-needy teams potentially inquiring on him since he has term on a contract that isn't very cost prohibitive.

I trust Alexeyev more and think Osh and Tom should switch. Maybe even throw Tom back up with his two usuals since trocheck and Val can be physical and may mesh well with Mantha.
Would be very pleased with this offseason

Eh maybe I’m crazy but I really like Samsonov and his potential. I’d honestly be okay with keeping Vanacek/Samso tandem and just add a solid vet like Craig Anderson. Orrrr if I was to trade for one Raanta is a interesting option.

Don’t want Campbell personally but I get the idea. And not sure if the return for Vitek/eller are super realistic but like you stated in your description the return doesn’t matter all that much. Overall though this would be pretty awesome if GMBM could get something similar done. I want Val Nichushkin in a caps jersey really bad.
