At this point, I'm all in on playing spoiler to whatever Cup contender the Caps play round 1. Hope Lindgren can Halak a team like Boston or Carolina

Articles say the Leafs need top four defenseman and a starting goaltender
I love the fit of Montour with the Leafs. I don't think the Leafs will have the money to get all four of those big UFA signings, but I'd prioritize getting Montour if Florida lets him go to market

it seems like term is king these days. If Tanev had was a year and a half, he definitely would've gotten a first and then some. Three playoff runs of Jensen should fetch a first

Yeah that's a good point. Definitely wouldn't be an issue for the Caps to retain

I'd absolutely love to get Mittelstadt to DC, but I don't see a real trade fit unfortunately. It's a shame, he's one of the few guys that really fits the mold of who they should be targeting

He'd cost a pretty penny, somebody's gotta get Ovi the puck still.

All three should be available, whether or not they actually are is a whole different story.
Dowd just does his job every game. Wins d zone faceoffs, kills penalties, makes simple and smart offensive plays, chips in with some offensive output more than an average 4C as well. Asking price should be a 2nd rounder or a prospect with similar value.
Lindgren has stolen so many games this year it's honestly hurt the Caps' draft position. His play this year alone would signify he's worth a 1st, but given the lack of track record it's probably a 2nd rounder and a little something else (unless a bidding war for him starts amongst the other cash-strapped teams).
TVR hasn't been anything special this year. Best suited anchoring a third pair but has shown he can handle top four minutes in a pinch. I don't know if he's the perfect fit for Edmonton given the contract isn't too different from Ceci's, although I think he's an upgrade. Probably not the caliber of upgrade Edmonton would be looking for though

Trade deadline deals
In this scenario, I don't see much reason to pay to dump Kuzy. There's enough cap space that he could be healthy scratched/buried and keep the assets

LOL
#1C isn't available anywhere. Maybe Stamkos is Tbay botches that contract resigning this summer. Or bring back C. Stephenson.</div></div>
He's also coached for the Caps ECHL and AHL teams before going to Toronto for a few years. It's obviously too early to say if he's going to be a high end coach in this league, but he's doing a damn good job with the roster he's been given in Year 1. We'll see how things shake out when/if he's got a real good team to coach

Selling At or Before Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>Fire the coach first.
Rookie coaches have been useless.</div></div>
Carberry is absolutely not the problem. The problem is a roster full of old, slow guys who can't keep up with the pace of today's league. A lot of the changes Carberry's made (more passes breaking out of the dzone, more of a zone defensive coverage, etc.) have proven to be quite positive. He's finding ways to win games the Caps have no business being in.
If the Caps are able to clear all this cap space, yes they can now afford to add a top line center and others, but who do you get? It's apparent that Elias Lindholm isn't a true 1C, and there's nobody else that may be a UFA that fits this description. If GMBM goes the trade route, who's going to be available? Maybe Zegras? Even then, he hasn't proven to be a true 1C either. And what assets does this team really have to go get a guy like that?

I would do this in a heartbeat. I'm all for encouraging a youth movement, but I don't know how realistic it is for the Caps to actually do it. Unfortunately the organization still wants to try and compete with Ovi instead of resetting the roster

What if Filip Forsberg never got traded
The Caps probably don't make the Oshie trade in that scenario, and you can't be positive that the Cup run still happens. As bad as the trade was and as much as Forsberg would help the Caps right now, I wouldn't go back in time and undo it

Washington Capitals signed Ethan Bear (2 Years / $2,062,500 AAV)
I imagine he's seen as a potential partner for Sandin, who the Caps desperately need to get going offensively. He hasn't meshed with Carlson, TVR or Jensen so I bet they get a long look together to start

I think the value here is good, Arizona just doesn't strike me as being ready to deal away first round picks. Even with all the second rounders they have, I think they'd rather move those. When they made the Chychrun trade, Armstrong cited the quality of the Ottawa pick being better than the quantity of other picks they were offered, so I imagine that philosophy hasn't changed

Getting both
I think making a move like this brings the Leafs back to the spot they were in that lead them to Klingberg in the first place -- not having a defenseman outside of Rielly that can break the puck out. Getting one of these guys makes sense, probably not both in my opinion

No reason for the Bruins to make that move. The downgrade they're getting isn't worth the cap savings + third rounder
