why would the Canucks do the Leafs trade? They are giving up the better forward and defenseman and they still have to give up a 2nd round pick. no way. this doesn't improve them and would these trades leave them with no picks in the first 3 rounds. no chance Benning mortgages the future like that. Van is on a roll right now and leads the pacific any add they do will be small to not mess up the chemistry

why is everyone in a hurry to sign Barrie. why not resign Tanev for less aav and a shorter term . that will help the cap situation and keep Tanev and Hughes together. Barrie is only productive when he is getting first PP duty and he isn't going to get that over Hughes. Why trade Pearson when he is a great fit with Horvat. Better off keeping Pearson resigning Tanev(2-3 year deal tops) trading Stecher(maybe with Sven to montreal) and forgetting about Barrie. even if they lose Leivo and a couple others they have some young guys to bring up. as for Markstrom cant see them going that aav and term with the RFA's they have coming due soon. if they lose him there are lots of veteran goalies that are ufa's they could sign to share the crease with Demko . no need to over commit to Markstrom and make that cap situation like Toronto's

none of these trades make sense. Rangers are looking for far more than that for Kreider(especially to take back Sven). why do you want to trade 2 of the wingers that are playing well for the canucks for rentals? this does nothing to help the canucks long term( or even short time messes up chemistry)

why would the Canucks trade Virtanen who plays with grit and has speed for a player that isn't having nearly as good a season and then pay that player more money? and I agree why does Vancouver trade their goalie of the future just to maybe clear up some cap space. also why buyout Beagle he is the perfect 4th line centre plays hard wins draws at a high rate. can nobody else see that every time Beagle(and sutter) get injured that Horvats play drops off as he has to take every defensive zone faceoff and doesn't get to start in the offensive zone as much? Benning has no reason to make any of these trades. he has contracts coming off the books just in time to resign EP and QH
not to mention they have some young guys that should be ready to take the spot of some of the expiring contracts(hoglander.poldkozin)
make the playoffs this year and then make small adds with low cost as they continue to add young guys to the roster. no need to make drastic changes and ruin the progress they have

yes the canucks would be worse off. giving up Myers,Woo ,Palmu, a 2nd and a1st isn't worth it to get rid of Eriksson's contract expecially since Spurgen and Zuccarello have NMC and would have to be protected from expansion meaning we risk losing young asset's instead. benning isn't going to mortgage the future like this . those 2 huge contracts don't help us resign QH and EP after next year

why does everybody want to trade Beagel and Sutter. that only leaves Horvat to take important defense zone faceoffs. every time they have both been hurt Horvat has struggled(and you want to trade the forward he chemistry with???) . plus your trading away 3 of our top PK forwards. Benning isn't trading another 1st and a top prospect for a UFA when we are not 1 forward away from the finals. especially since Pearsson is playing real well for them with Horvat and for 2m less a season. it will cost to much to resign Hoffman and they don't need another overpriced winger with the important extension they have coming up after next year

why would the canucks pay 7m for Barrie. he's not going to get 1pp time with Hughes there(and he's not productive otherwise). canucks will resign Tanev for less cap hit and term long before they over pay for Barrie and Tanev can play with either Hughes or Edler allowing them to play more offensively. Barrie doesn't instill much confidence on the defensive side of things
they are not going to make an overpay like that knowing they have 2 big RFA's to be resigned next year

ok sure . that's with you taking back salary in Kapanen instead of resigning Stecher(and he should resign for less than Kapanen and we need RHD) and by doing a buyout on Sutter you are tying up cap space when he will coming off the cap anyways(that's another 1.166m)
they have over 18m coming off the books from just 5 players and some will be replaced internally with players like Podkolzin and Juolevi and others.
plus they have another 14m+ coming off the next year so itll be easier for them to resign them than the leafs did.

as the extensions wouldn't be till the end of the 2020-21 season both Sutter and Beartschi's contracts are up too. so even if the NJ trade doesn't happen they have a lot coming off the books when the extensions for EP and Qh are due.
they will get them resigned and probably wont overpay like the leafs did.

i don't understand all these people that want to get rid of players like beagle, sutter and roussel. all of them play playoff style hockey with grit and can defend. doesn't anybody notice that horvat's game has slowed down now that sutter and beagle are out and he has to take pretty much every defensive zone faceoff. why would we want goldobin or Sven on the 4th line . why cant people be at least try and be realistic.

why would Vancouver trade tanev for barrie? tanev is the perfect partner for Hughes and he actually plays defense . Barrie does not move the needle offensively enough to risk losing Tanevs defense(especially shot blocking) for a soft dman that cant produce unless he is on the 1st PP unit and he isn't going to get that over Hughes.
as for the Nashville trade not a bad plan for Vancouver I just don't see Nashville taking LOUIE at all. not without a sweetner cause at least Turris can score

neither of these trades make any sense. Barrie is an Ufa after this year so that means we could lose 2/3rd of our RHD why. and why would we trade one of our best PK guys in Schaller(and he is playing well)
there isn't an upgrade in either of these trades

Podkolzin is way to high . he is locked into the KHL till end 20/21 season so he would just be signing ELC at this point. even if hoglander signs now he'll still be on his ELC as well. lind is probably too high as well unless he gets some major time next year he'll probably resign for similar to Virtanen or leivo are signed right now.

BIG TRADE with CHICAGO
why would Vancouver take on another long term contract that is longer than LOUI's especially one with a NMC meaning they have to protect him during the expansion draft. they already have to protect Myers and Ferland(NMC), plus probably Horvat ,Brock,Miller,Gaudette. they're not going to want to add another NMC for an over the hill player. unless Ottawa takes LOUI to help meet the salary cap floor the Canucks might as well keep him and if he gets picked in the draft great(they can always sweeten the pot for that to happen) or keep him and his contract runs out in time to help resign brock or extend Bo.
Seabrook is not an improvement over Tanev(who is a perfect partner for Hughes) the second rounder isn't worth the extra cap and term compared to Loui

to be clear I wouldn't want Nylander and neither should the Canucks. so what if Points contract is a bridge deal the leafs still overpaid for Nylander . Tampa got a significantly better player signed for less. Point had 2 less points than Marner yet Toronto is paying Marner 4m a year more(not to mention Austin is getting 5m more) can you say that Marner(or Matthews) is a 4+m a year better player(for 2 points) come on admit it Dubas hands out dollar and term like its monopoly money.
as for the sample size Vancouver had a better pk% than Toronto last year and that was with both Beagel and Sutter injured for large portions of the season who did Toronto pick up to improve their pk. with those healthy players and the improved D they may drop but they are set up to be much better than the leafs this year.
all teams have a few questionable contracts at least the canucks don't have 4 players eating 50% of the cap for the next 5 years.

you mean the 3/4th liners that are helping the Canucks to a top 4 PK unit. that actually can win a puck battle and protect a lead. the horror that they invested in that type of thing. no I guess instead its better to invest 50% of the cap on 4 players so that your probably going to have to play with less than 20 skaters because of the cap and injuries. not to mention what do they do once McDermott and Hyman come off the LTIR who do they get rid of? I wonder how many of the 3/4 liners from the Canucks Babcock would like to have (pretty sure Sutter and Beagel would quickly become his favourites) plus none of them are signed for more than 3 years.
Canucks are the right path and yes LOUI's contract sucks . but that is 1 bad contract Dubas got taken to the cleaners the last 2 offseasons. he is paying Nylander more than tampa is paying for Point who only had 2 less points than Marner who he is paying more than Kucherov who had 34 points more than Marner.
it ok I'm sure some of the cap issues for the leafs will be sorted once Matthews is traded to Arizona for some D and some extras

Canucks say no thanks. keep your 7m floater. no way they want to take on another big contract when they have to resign EP and QH after next year. if they cant find a taker for Sutter then hang onto him as his contract runs out just in time . with the way the Canucks are playing why trade to get softer and easier to play against. we do not need to help the leafs out of their cap problems. only way we take Nylander is if the leafs take Loui and that isn't going to happen.
Canucks are moving in a positive direction with a much clearer cap situation than Toronto but im sure Dubas has it all figures out(not)
