Bertuzzi
I’d do it if the price was lower; I don’t think bertuzzi is particularly high skill so if we’re just looking for someone with bite & decent hands to play with JT & Marner (which makes sense) , we can get similar player at lower price.

Attn Blues Fans
Would much prefer we target an impact top 6/9 forward - either 2W or 3C.
Kampf is solid and Holmberg has impressed so maybe we try to get someone to play with JT & Marner?
But agree with most here that the D is fine; Gio has played well (which is great news) but it’s hard to say who’s been the best. All 6 have played well, and with Reilly still to come back…d-corps is fine

Spot on. What is with the 23 man roster? No need to sign Lewis, Anderson moves to scratch and Kral or Hallowell start with Marlies. Plenty of space for Kampf who is a keeper.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IDKtbh</b></div><div>I know it might be hard to fathom but my opinion of Bertuzzi’s skillset or value has nothing to do with my being a fan of the Detroit Red Wings. I’m not a homer, brother.
Bunting is a poor comparison to Bertuzzi. He’s got one full season under his belt and he’s played with Mitch Marner or similar the entire year. His entire career is a “sample size”, up to this point.
It’s a bad comparison. So, if your question is, if the Detroit Red Wings were exactly the Toronto Maple Leafs, with the exact roster and situation/history, the answer is a resounding yes, I would absolutely take the opportunity to add Bertuzzi to the group.
Honestly, you will see the difference he makes on whichever team acquires him at the deadline. He is an impactful player on the ice and a very admirable locker room guy despite what you may have heard.</div></div>
Appreciate your input, but you kind of sound like a homer. Granted I haven’t watched bertuzzi closely and Leafs have owned wings past number of years so it may not be fair - but he didn’t impress that much . His career numbers aren’t that great : 0.3 goals & 0.67 points per game. Even last 3 years 0.42 goals & 0.85 points per game are good but not great.
I’m not against adding him but No Chance at that price. Maybe a 2023 2nd (or 2024 1st) + prospect (not Knies and not Niemela). If not, no worries there will be lots of forwards available to TDL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tonyhzs</b></div><div>Yes the Wings would consider it. Bertuzzi is better though, despite limited analytics. Bunting puts similar numbers up on a better team. Much better team the last few years. Bertuzzi put his numbers up on a team with limited/only 1 legit top 4 D that can move the puck. Huge difference where you start with the puck on offense and how much you have to back check. Bunting also plays with one of the best playmakers (take your pick amongst Tavares or Marner) and one of the best 2 goal scorers right now.</div></div>
Simple solution, Leafs will sign bunting next year and forego trading for bertuzzi. Win win

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IDKtbh</b></div><div>Let’s add a few more variables in there like, do we have 4 players eating up 50% of our cap and bounced in the 1st round the last 5 years in a row and our best player and arguably the 2nd or 3rd best player in the world leaving us in 1.5 seasons, the answer would be “No, thank you, we’re good on Michael Bunting.” However, if you were offering Tyler Bertuzzi, a guy who hasn’t benefitted from playing with $20m line mates for the duration of his 18 month career sporting inflated production, the answer would be, “Yes, we would.”</div></div>
Well tried to argue facts :-/ .
Guess you didn’t like the reasonable comparable which showed why your trade proposal was so weak.
Love you guys who support garbage teams - your team and players are great but when it’s trade time “our players don’t get to play with any great players 😢 so they’re better than they actually are “ 😅
Bunting put up similar numbers with Coyotes albeit in limited sample size.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IDKtbh</b></div><div>Huh? Hands? Important? Ohhhh, man, you know you’re right. I was confusing hockey with soccer cuz there’s like a goal and a goalie and all that stuff, I forgot that hands are important. Hey, honestly, thanks man. I goofed up big time on that one.
Hey, do you think I could get your valuable perspective on the Frosties from Wendy’s? Cuz it comes with a spoon but, you also get a straw so, is it ice cream or is it a shake or maybe something previously nameless in between, like umm, idk maybe like a frost… ahh, that’s it - its not ice cream or a shake; it’s a Frosty. Thanks again, man wow, you are on a roll today.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Babatunde</b></div><div>It is measured based on what he has done this season. If you look at the previous track records, Muzzin will easily get the Leafs a first+ if we we trade him. Past history doesn't mean anything, it's based on what they are doing right now</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Hands tend to be kind of important to hockey players, especially skilled ones. You hope he'll be good as new but you can't say for sure ... which is kind of the point. It's especially relevant because we aren't talking a long recovery time. He won't be with the Leafs past this season so it's how he will play immediately upon returning from those hand injuries which is a big gamble for teams to take and hence the distressed asset.</div></div>
Been an interesting discussion. Clearly we Leaf fans don’t value bertuzzi the way wings fans do. Let me see if we can bridge the difference.
Assuming positions were switched - Wings in playoffs and Leafs on outside looking in…Would wings fans pay a 1st + 3rd + top 3 prospect for Michael bunting? Bunts is similar type player, puts up similar (actually better) numbers than Bertuzzi, they are similar age and both are pending FAs?

No interest in schenn for anything more than a 4th or 5th, but really - what is the point? As things stand, we’re a top 3 defensive team and Timmins / Benn will be 7/8 heading into playoffs so no need to address d corps.
Focus should be on upgrade to top 9

Not many Leaf fans I know would pay that for bertuzzi; if we’re burning a 1st + 3rd + top 3 prospect from our system I’d expect a lot more coming back than a rental bertuzzi, no offense. That’s a no.

Why would the leafs do this? Talk about underwhelming additions - a 7th/8th dman & a top 6 forward that can’t crack the Canucks lineup (and they are awful). We’re looking for size and grit in bottom 6 or legit scoring threat to bolster top 6; this trade makes zero sense imo.

the player we should have drafted
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I never understood the Amirov selection. Left wingers and left handed defencemen are the most populous players....66% of player shoot left. There probably wasn't a big cap between talent Amirov, and selections picked slightly below him, RWer Dawson of NJ and Rangers RHD Schnedier.
Sorry I'll disagree with other who say Dubas has been good at drafting. Correct if I"m wrong, but on defence just Sandin and LIljegren...both first rounders...I should hope first rounders should be in the NHL.
Holmberg...a great pick in the sixth round and injured Robertson. So in his time as GM....he has drafted just four NHLers. And the Leafs NHL to be prospects isn' that promising.</div></div>
I think you’re being a bit unfair on Dubas; dude has only had 5 drafts and from those only 2 x 1st rounders (late) - Sandin & Amirov. Sandin looks legit (takes D typically 3-4 years to coke good) & Amirov - we all know the story. We can look back at any and every GM & highlight their misses on draft day; kind of pointless exercise imo. Looks to be lots of good picks in lower rounds in recent years and Leafs have one of the best prospect pools amongst ‘top’ teams (as measured by draft position & qty of picks - top teams typically trade their picks at TDL).
Of course the bottom feeders have better prospect pools but they pick first & keep (even add to) all of their picks .
Compared to Bruins, Tampa, Avs, etc - Leafs are in good shape relatively.

Your points make sense; except for ‘They can only add a player in the 1.8 million range.’
That’s not true - should have between $3-4M space depending on who gets moved out & roster size at TDL.
I think focus should be acquiring 2W or 3C; I am leaning towards ROR but really any impact forward in exchange for picks + prospects, including 2023 1st if needed .
