<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>larter232</b></div><div>hmm that makes sense i always forget about the retention limits teams have
i also prefer shipping kerfoot instead of engvall with the extra salary gone the team can have a larger active roster
i feel like engvall is better defensively than kerfoot
and neither produce enough for me to feel bad about them going anyway.
also based on what i saw above chychrun is apparently injury prone but looking at his injury history it only looks like hes really been injured twice? am i missing something?</div></div>
he's missed a decent amount of time in every season he's played except the COVID-shortened year (63/70 GP) and the bubble season (20-21) when he played all 56 games. He had some bad injury luck in his second and third season, missing the starts of both seasons recovering from surgeries, and then missed the beginning of this year recovering from wrist & ankle injuries. I think any acquiring team is gonna have to figure in some missed time for him, even if they do it pre-emptively (the dreaded "load management") to keep him fresh for a potential playoff run, and that does have an affect on his value.
End of the day, though, he's a guy who can easily fit on most team's 1st or 2nd pair, and can play all three parts of the game. He's paid like a high-end second pair guy, which does have some value - if you can cross your fingers and hope that you only lose him for 10-15 games each year, I still think he's worth that package. But it's definitely come back down quite a bit from where it might have been last season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>larter232</b></div><div>think i would rather keep willy than have travis and frost,
especially considering both kral and amirov are waiver exempt so you already kinda have a 23 man roster if you think those are gonna be the guys coming up.
cap should go up 1 mil as well so that opens up some additional avenues.
Throw Robertson on that top line next year
bunting on the second
gogolev on the third right side kampf center and a 1.5 million dollar left winger on the left
simmer semyonov spezza seems fine to me.
I think jack will take less probably closer to 4 million just kinda seems like the kinda guy he is.
I dont think you are wrong mind you, this is quite a realistic scenario to end up with.
Just my 2 cents on the whole situation.</div></div>
I agree Nylander seemed to be the only player on the Leafs to start the season on time 5 points in the first 5 games.
I also think if Kerfoot to Detroit was going to happen it would've happened a while ago.

Agreed, I'd just like to see a little more to be certain. Brooks and Kampf could probably be swapped now that I think about it.

Weird idea on left wing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>larter232</b></div><div>I really enjoy this look at it very fair points all around.</div></div>
My two cents.
Have you ever played pick-up hockey?
Sometimes you play with or against a decent player who can regularly beat 2 or 3 guys with speed or decent puck handling and then they get in alone with the goalie and they hit them in the chest every time.
You can just tell that even though they definitely played a decent level of hockey, they obviously played D most of their life because they have no finish.
Rielly gets about 10 or so great chances per year and finishes on a 1 or 2 at most. He's not a finisher (most Dmen aren't).
A step further, in the O-zone Rielly is used to getting the puck at the point and having a second or two to decide where to put the puck and 19 times out of 20 he'll likely make the safe play and go point to point or just toss it down the boards.
It's a completely different world to go get and make a smart play with the puck from the corner.
Watch him when he gets in deeper with the puck, majority of the time he chucks it to the net (safer play than a turnover). Dmen rarely have the patience to find an open man when pressured because that's not their game (in the o-zone).
Those split second hesitations that would happen is big enough to make it near impossible to make this type of position change.

Majority of the players that have tried it played forward at some point in their lives growing up.
Rielly never has (at least since he's been a teen).
It's a completely different position, it wouldn't work, and it's why 99.9% of players don't play dual positions (F & D).

And when hes getting passes from mitch marner or auston matthews i think he will learn quickly, and hey if it doesnt work Bunting Kerfoot Kase Ritchie or Robertson can fill in there as a temp position, its the only line that really needs no superstar help, or even really good help, which is why i think we can put soup there.</div></div>
that's true. he can potentially be a great replacement for Kapanen if he can utilize his speed and skill on the rush better

Marner needs to go
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>I mean the last three years, Lindholm has played more special teams time on both sides, plays a more physical game by an absolute mile, outscored Marner without playing with Matthews or Tavares the entire time, very very similar possession metrics, all while playing a significantly more important position for 6 million dollars less.
That is really just as simple as it gets, not once did I say that they are equal players but the nonsense that you spew is beyond hilarious, take a quick look through your profile and you seem to have a knack for it so I can see you're just getting your glue induced sillies out! Have at er</div></div>
That's a hell of a way to to move those goal posts. First Marner needs a trigger man, then when it's pointed out that he doesnt and he's just a really good play maker (literally every scorer who has played with him has had career scoring years btw.) suddenly it's all about how Lindholm "out scored" Marner specifically. So, for fun lets look at the per 60 rates, wow, he had one year of the last 3 where he had a higher g/60 than Marner, crazy that one one of them is a good scorer. oh wait, Marner had significanlty more assist by any metric you wanna play with.
Oh, i get it, Lindholm was playing with scrubs probably....oh no, looks like he was playing almost exclusivly with Tkachuk, Gaudreau and Mangiapane. Calgary fans keep telling me how amazing those guys are.
Wait wait wait, very similar possession metrics? I thought Lindholm was an elite shut down guy? huh, i guess marner is too!
So, barely a better goal scorer despite being the designated triggerman, significantly worse at play making and about the same defensivly all against a guy who still hasnt even entered his prime vs one who put those numbers up during his.
Now that's hilarious, I dont even need to look through your profile to know that you cycle this sort of cherry picked one sided nonsense on the regular

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>larter232</b></div><div>I agree on all parts except the Tkachuk part, hes a dieing breed thats for sure but he aint mitch
Like if i was the leafs it would be quite similar,
Mitch-->ottawa
Tkachuk, 1st, a 2nd-->Toronto
Thats how much better Mitch is both watching him and points wise, there are clear definable stats and traits that mitch has that can justify that amount of a return
Which is why
Chabot-->toronto
Rielly,1 1st, 3 2nds. 1 3rd--> Ottawa
is just lunacy.
Now i will note if it looked like this maybe
Chabot-->Toronto
Rielly, 1 1st, 1 2nd, and Engvall--> Ottawa
Thats a fair return for both teams,
Both get a Number 1 Dman, but ottawa gets an additional first and second, And toronto gets to dump a contract that they dont want that expires at the end of this coming year.
This works for the sens and the leafs, The leafs are in more of a win now mode than the sens.
Rielly is a defenseman with 8 seasons under his belt now so he can provide some leadership
and the sens dont have to worry about Engvalls cap because the cap wont matter to them.
"Given the current $$ being thrown at D men this off season (Nurse, Hamilton, Werenski, Jones, Heiskanen) Ottawa could EASILY GET A BETTER return than this for Chabot"
twas this statement that drove me calling you delusional, because frankly, there is no way any player in the league that isnt a #1 top 3 centerman #1 Top 2 Goalie, or #1 top 5 Dman gets MORE than what this trade offers, maybe different but certainly not more</div></div>
By a "better return" I just meant something more in line with a team coming to the end of a rebuild vs a team just starting one.
We'll have to agree to disagree on the Tkachuk - Marner thing.
IMO the Leafs would be a better playoff team with a Tkachuk in their line up and Ottawa running a 1st line of Marner-Norris-Batherson wouldn't do nearly as well against opponents best defensive pairings.

Didn't mean to quote your post :tearsofjoy
The comment was supposed to about the trade. Pesce is not a bad defenseman, but we have no one to fill the gaping hole left in Marner's absence. Galchenyuk is no where near that much money, and only getting one pick back for our teams leading scorer for 3 of the last 4 seasons doesn't seem like enough. I dont think people realise how big a Marner trade would be

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jake6ix_deep</b></div><div>chabot worse than rielly offensively. you do realize rielly cant even take a slapshot? he has stone hands and his fav move is a weak attempt at a wrap around following a bad wrist shot that normally end back in our zone. i invite you to stop looking at stats and watch chabot play. theres a reason why he almost played 30 mins a night in a few games. also he absolutely turns it up a notch when playing us.</div></div>
There was a story in the Star the year Rielly scored 70 points and 20 goals. The reporter noticed he didn't take slap shots anymore. It was by design. More often than not slap shots get blocked or miss the net. They also are very slow in comparison to a wrist shot in terms of how fast you can get them off. So Rielly decided to stop slap shots. He doesn't use them because they are less effective. It's not that he can't it's that he doesn't. Or at least rarely.
