The habs draft well?? REALLY??
Is it a drafting issue or a development issue? Their AHL team has bounced around a lot and I don't recall it being very good in recent years. Drafting's only about half the puzzle: Mete, Evans, Juulsen, Lindgren, Hudon, and Poehling look like legit prospects. Galch is a legitimate NHLer.

Actually there are "lots" of Dmen available in 2019, unless some sign early. Almost guaranteed Doughty is gonna be to pricey for the Leafs (maybe most teams). LA is Doughty's home, I really don't see him wanting to leave LA. But not all teams can sign UFA for improvement, so the reality is you better develop your own, or the old term. The decision to start with Grubauer really looks bad now and idk what was Trotz thinking, Holtby is the man. You win or you die with him.
I like Klefbom coming to washington as he is exactly the type of d-man they need right now and that's part of the reason why they blew their 3-1 lead last night.
I still think the caps can comeback, the jackets have been undisciplined and causing many mistakes due to their young d.</div></div>
trotz also sat Vrana and refuses to play dojo........very frustrating to watch him make adjustments.....

First and foremost, Boston doesn't have their 2018 first rounder.
Next, while I'd be happy to add OEL to the team, Boston's RHD depth is awful after McAvoy & Carlo. McQuaid nor Miller are 2nd pairing d-men and our top RHD prospect is an 18yr old 7th round pick whose playing in Sweden. On the flip side our top 3 defensive prospects are Zboril, Lauzon and Vaak...all of which are LHD.

No Tavares for ya'll
These trades all make good enough sense in theory, but the values are mostly off. Grub's rights are worth more than Dal Colle in my opinion. Maybe Dal Colle and a 2nd?
No complaints on the Brodin trade. Minnesota gets to upgrade their offense in exchange for defense, something they should have done a while ago. Adding in Aho would reduce some of the anxiety of losing Brodin.
I agree with palhal, that's a lot to give up for two years of Faulk. Still, that's a division team that will likely start contending around the same time we will. They may not want to send a good, still relatively young defenseman to a future rival. The overpayment might be necessary. So I'll put it this way: if that's your opening offer to Carolina, you're crazy. If that's where negotiations end, I'm fine with that.
If Montreal is serious about rebuilding, they'd take that trade.
Good-not-great post.

Getting younger, new core.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lavsim96</b></div><div>Well all i'll say is this: i thought Subban and Sergachev were untouchable and i would have never believed they would get tarded, especially for what we got for them but then sh*t happens and we lose em both.
But Hextall has been a good GM for the Flyers and i agree about the flyers retooling but still with Voracek, Giroux, Simmonds all in their prime and Ghost, Provorov and Konecny playin so good despite their young age i'd say the flyers could put an end to the retool-mode and start making a real push for the cup.
That being said, being a flyers fan i wouldn't like the idea of trading away Patrick and i get the reaction from philly fans.</div></div>
Yeah I get what you're saying too but I'm just basing off Hexy's comments he's made public about Patrick, Frost, Hart, and Ratcliffe being untouchable. The Flyers probably aren't going to flip that switch to win now mode until they see what Carter Hart is as a pro since a lot of the retool is just waiting to find a goalie. Also, it's not even a for sure thing that Simmonds is back with the team. Patrick has replaced him on the first PP now and he plays on the third line 5v5 with Filppula. Plus they are still waiting for guys in the farm to be close to NHL ready specifically Allison, Laczynski, Frost, Hart, Myers, and Ratcliffe. When players like Read, Manning, Lehtera, Weise, and Filppula are exchanged for the others is when I could see Hexy making a huge move like trying to pry Karlsson/Doughty in two years or trading for a Weber type player. They aren't going to do that before the window is even close to opening up because like you said they'd be wasting the last few years of Weber being good and then when they are ready to be good they are stuck with a Seabrook type dman tying up all the cap that could be used to resign Konecny, Provorov, Patrick, Lindblom, and Sanheim.

Making Tavares stay
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lavsim96</b></div><div>They need better defence and goaltending. Staying realistic these are the best options for this team while staying under the cap. Bernier is a big reason why the Avs made the playoffs this year, his stats are okay and damn he made them win so it's not just about his save% but also if the team wins in front of him which happened in the last 2 years.
Cole was the better d-man for their last cup-run. He is defensive, he dosen't get on the pp or to get the team back in a game. The isles got Pulock, Leddy, Boychuk and possibly Aho to play the offensive side of the game.
Tavares said he wanted to stay and i don't think you need to make a massive overhaul to convince him. You just need to show him your serious, you have a plan about getting better really soon and i think he's the type of guy that just wants to stay with the team that drated him and made him their franchise player, a bit like Stammer.</div></div>
Like I said, they are good depth additions but would that be good enough to convince a superstar to say with the team if he were considering elsewhere? I really don't think so. And if it is, it will be very easy to appease JT in this negotiation. That shouldn't be too hard to do.

The NHL not what it was 20 years ago and i really don't have faith in Drouin, the type of player he is and the things he's done just dosen't allow me to like that guy.
Asking a trade when you are on your entry-level because you don't want to go in the AHL or threatening to go play in the U.S in juniors instead of your home team are examples of that ( i got that story from Norman Flynn if you ever wonder)</div></div>
I am not fully sold on Drouin, but nor am I ready to cut him loose. He's the kind of kid who would benefit from the Habs trading for someone like Spezza or Carter. On the Montreal question, Theodore was another kid blinded by being the "Montreal phenom" when he first came up. He eventually figured out how to be a star in the town. It takes a couple of years. It was his dad and brother who were his undoing.

Here’s some people that were actual GMs that managed teams and were worse than MB;
- Reajan Houle (Traded Patrick Roy for 3 nobodies. Also traded Recchi and Turgeon)
- Mike Milbury (Messed up the Isles by trading away Luongo, Chara, Olli Jokinen, Jason Spezza’s pick, etc.)
- <a href="/users/jayjenkins" target="_blank">@jayjenkins</a>
Sure Bergevin’s no Sam Pollock, but he is extremely far from the worst person for the job on earth.

Patch didn't perform.
- The team needs some change... but you don't need to pull the trigger on a rebuild</div></div>
Drouin is not a center and we won't find one trading or signing free agents.
Weber didn't help this team win when he was healthy and he is awfully over-rated by some habs fan. He is a good d-man but not in the top-20 of the league and lacks greatly of mobility. We need to find a left-d that has offensive upside and very mobile in order to help him out. (Markov wasn't obviously that guy i guess)
Price can't steal every game, i do not blame him at all for this season. He had a bad start but the team never gave him a chance to bounce back since they were just as bad in front of him.[/quote]
I agree, except I think Weber is better than what people thinks... he isn't as flashy as Pk... so yeah.
in 26 games he had 6 goals and 10 passes... which aint bad ... when he played 14 games with a broken foot (heel)

Bold moves
Liking the Avs trade. Kerfoot is a good little centre who sees the ice well and Drouin would obviously benefit from a fresh start (yes I know it's only been almost a season), and joining MacKinnon. It's probably fair value as it stands but I think most MTL fans would be p***ed. I would still expect Drouin to fetch more. Kerfoot & Girard ( a francophone puck moving left D, and drop the third pick) for Drouin & Fucale as the Habs have a bit of a gridlock of goalies and the Avs need a decent goalie prospect?

I don't know anything about the Avs, so I don't know if Kerfoot is a good move. I like the idea of grabbing Orpick and a bunch of picks. Montreal will have plenty of cap space next year unless they actually do manage to sign Tavares, which is not terribly likely.

My complete offseason for the habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lavsim96</b></div><div>Well let me answer to you...
1)Julien is outdated and just does not fit the direction the habs need to go right now ( using young guys, who cares about froese and shclemko?) That's why the Bruins fired him, they couldn't give young guys a real chance with him.
2) Name Brodeur as another asst GM if you want...a guy who spent his life being a goalie won't suddenly stop having interest in goaltending, especially when you got Carey Price to coach.
3)Q wouldn't be making any deals...he'd be the equivalent of what Shanahan is in Toronto. Brisebois would be the one calling the shots for trades and what not so yea he'd be moving from assitant GM to Yzerman to GM of the habs...
5) The only other good option for captaincy would be Pleky as a reward for his last season in MTL...I dont want Weber as captain, he's gona become really quickly another scape-goat since he will probably be injured again with his age and with his game declining he'll be too easy to target for critiques.
Gally already has to go politely talks to the refs and it dosen't take anything away from his energy so i am willing to bet having the "C" wouldn't change his game. There are a few other players like Gally who loves to cause chaos and misbehave and have or had the C in their nhl careers recently: Landeskog, Ladd, Benn, Backes, Getzlaf, Mackenzie...</div></div>
Julien was in Boston for 10 years. That's hardly a failed tenure and, sure, he depended too much on Bergeron and Chara too much. Who wouldn't when you have horses like that?
Brodeur has shown zero interest in donning the skates and being out on the ice. I'm sorry, it's not something you dabble in. You watch 10 hours of video per day as a goalie coach.
Shanahan was a hall-of-famer. Q walked away from the Habs in his prime (only to be traded back) which isn't likely to earn him the love of the Anti-chambre. I would also argue that the Habs don't need a shiny pony in the presidency. Indeed, they don't need a president because Molson is an active owner, unlike Tanenbaum. You'd just be adding a layer of B.S.
Brisebois is TB's cap master and manages the scouting. He does not call the shots.
We can agree to disagree on Gallagher, or maybe it's just time he grows up anyway and stops playing the game like a wild boy. I will miss that kid, but the day eventually comes to all players.
