Keeping Danault amp KK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>markmws</b></div><div>Could not agree with this take more. In fact, one could argue that paying Kotkaniemi $3 million per is an overpayment (Carolina is paying him $6 just to play left wing on their 4th line at less than 12 minutes a night. While the Canadiens may have missed on his development, I am not sure Carolina is doing any better).
Stating what was already said; either Dvorak progresses back to his mean, Poehling makes a giant leap or they go out and get a 2nd line center via trade or, more likely, free agency and/or the draft in this coming offseason.</div></div>
I see glimpses in Poehling’s game. In Laval he was really good and so far he hasn’t looked bad, with 64% on faceoffs.

Keeping Danault amp KK
As much as I liked Danault it makes zero sense to pay $5.5 million for 6 years for a defensive centre to be 2nd line centre.
Yes he is missed but Montreal needs an offensive punch behind Suzuki. Either dvo turns it around, Poehling works out or mtl needs to go find an offensive centre for 2nd line.

Deadline direction changes
As <a href="/users/markmws" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@markmws</a> says, I can see Edmonton paying a first for Allen and Chiarot, but they're not paying Broberg for them and REALLY not sending Broberg with a first for them.
We're not taking on that heavy Gallagher contract unless our cost is minimal. Two roster players isn't minimal.

I see a real fit for Strme in Montréal, but I really think the Hawks look at a Strome for Armia swap. Similar contracts, and Armia has term.
Be a wonderful addition on their 3rd line.... and makes more sense the Lehkonen.
As for a more mobile blueline......
I have been beating that drum for 3 years. It's a blueline that can insulate Price (like he needs it lol) and Allen, but outside if Petry (maybe Romanov, too early for me to really comment), cannot drive offensively.....
Bergevin has drafted players that solve that issue, but how far away are they? Guile looked good at camp, Norlinder as well. But being a proponent of proper AHL marinating, a stop gap maybe needed.

Has nothing to do with your team, but I think Byron will just be placed on the regular IR instead of LTIR, as he is expected back in December. I sounds like minor detail, but it does have major implications. :)</div></div>
Byron will be on LTIR. To qualify for LTIR, a player must be expected to miss at least 10 NHL Games AND 24 days of the NHL season

Montreal should definitely look at at least a PTO IMO, exactly the type of player we need next to Chiarot or Romanov on the 2nd or 3rd pairing. Line up
Edmundson-Petry
Romanov-Savard
Chiarot-Niku
Kulak
and send Wideman to the AHL

I'm looking forward to seeing Belpedio, he is probably the player I know the least in MTL/Laval, as I watch all the games from both teams.

Ferland has publicly stated he will not play in the NHL again. They don’t have to make space available for him to return

You are getting a higher cap utilization from just giving Yamamoto a higher salary. It's not about this year it is about 22-23. if yamamoto doesnt sign by season start edmonton's cap ceiling will be 79.8 Million and yamamoto will only fit under that number at 1.125 million.

I just can’t see any team giving up that many assets until after they see his recovery from neck surgery.
What I would offer would be way too low. I don’t see how Buffalo can get value for this player without letting him get the surgery first.

Panarin broke into the league at like 26 lol, i get that he came from the KHL but everyone develops differently
If you think a 24 year old is past the point of potential, you know nothing about hockey and that is obvious lol</div></div>
Panarin is a stupid example, he was good enough to make the NHL several years earlier, he just had a KHL contract. Same with Kaprizov, he woulda been in the Calder debate if he’d come to the NHL 4 years ago, but he had a contract to fulfill. Those two are comparable to each other. DeBrusk is not even close. As for the trade, Backlund’s a centre, he’s fantastic defensively, and still scores 15-20 goals and 45-50 points from the 3rd line with amazing consistency. DeBrusk was on pace for 10 goals and 28 points last year and he’s gonna be “stuck” on the 3rd line again because he’s not better than Hall. His value is at an all time low, and he needs to either prove he deserves to be on the 2nd line or at least show he can be a solid 3rd line contributor if he wants to be more than a throw in to some trade. Not the centrepiece for a good 2-way centre.

I am not saying he is 100% past his point of potential, its just very likely that what he has shown so far is probably his ceiling. Flames literally just traded Sam Bennett who when moved to Florida was fantastic. It it totally possible for DeBrusk to do that too but it probably won't be with the Bruins and right now his value is very likely around the same as what Bennett was traded for. Backlund is still definitely worth more than what Bennett was moved for.

thats a no
and dont tell me debrusk is worse than backlund, that would just be uneducated. He may have been worse this past year (and i dont even know if thats true or not, just giving the benefit of the doubt), but debrusk is younger, has more potential, and is a better player overall</div></div>
Come on man, DeBrusk is pretty well past his "has potential" point by now and has never once been better than Backlund. Were talking about one of the best defensive centers in the league here vs an at best 2nd line winger that has been heavily sheltered offensively and is not very good defensively

hehehe one last trade at camp
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>markmws</b></div><div>I get that. I just know that it's easier for a right-shot player to play on the right side, as it's easier to defend passing lanes and much easier to start a break-out. You are correct: there have been left-shot players who have made the switch to the right-side, which would that player an added one-timer option. When in doubt, I trust Hockey Canada's model of always having right-shot players play on the right, and left-shot players on the left (unless you're on a power play). I've never seen Kalynuk play: maybe he's one of the exceptions.</div></div>
He seems to be the kind to be able to do so, way more better than Romanov and Kulak at least, so i'm willing to try it. He also has more passing skill than Kulak and for a D-corp like our ir's a need.
