Interesting proposal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Not_Isles5513</b></div><div>It’s an interesting proposal for Montreal, and should be a non-starter for the Islanders. Trading a first to dump bailey would be beyond moronic imo. Just buy him out at that point.</div></div>
Yeah but its the 37th OA pick (basically a late first in a great year). Next year's first could end up being in the late 20s (if you have a great season), which imo (based on the reports we have of the 2024 class) would probably give us a worst prospect than some of the guys available at 37th this year.
Considering the fact you barely have any prospects left, It could be smart to not lose a pick and simply move back a little (to dump Bailey).

We could always buy Carter out (promise him before the trade), then he could sign with whoever he wants. Anderson would fit nicely with PIT and seems to be the kind of guy Dubas would target.

Need to send money back. And considering nobody wants to sign with you guys, now youd get a local boy who could show the way to the Perfetti, Lambert, etc. And you could always put him on LTIR if he gets hurt which wouldnt surprise me tbh.

I also thought about something like that :
Anderson + Edmundson + Ylonen for Carter + 14th OA + top 16 protect 2024 first

Theres just tons of reports saying VAN wants to trade some of their bad contracts to get out of their cap hell. Just look at what CGY paid us to take on one year of Monahan… Myers probably is an even bigger liability than Monahan since the later was put on LTIR for most of the year (and was really good when he wasnt). Myers is straight up bad

Hutson’s shot is solid and his skating issues wont affect his offensive game lol. Didnt you see how easily he dangled men out of their jackstraps at the WC? Defensively, yeah he always will have rough but with that offense, who cares. We need Leonard or Benson more than another offensive D. Plus we have Matheson who might be elite for the next 3 years. That leaves enough time to figure out the offensive D issue assuming one of Mailloux or Hutson doesnt work out.

Because Hutson and Mailloux will be our PP1 and PP2 QB. The player we would get at 11th would be more useful than Barron longterm imo

I dont think theyd do that (even assuming they protect the 2024 pick). Adding a much needed RHD like Barron is what would move the needle imo. At 11th, we could then move up and get a guy like Leonard, Reinbacher or Benson. I think its worth it.

Myers would cost a first alone tonget dumped. Just look at Monahan and Marleau. So MTL gets screwed in that situation as there isnt enough value from 11-14 to make up for Myers’ negative value

Maybe 2 years ago, but now CM isnt the prospect he used to be. For MTL to consider wed have to receive another first. Maybe something like 5th OA and COLs 2nd in 2024 for 8th OA and WASs 2024 first

Gonna cost more than that to dump Mantha. Monahan cost a first and he was still perceived as usefull. Mantha looked like he cost you guys some games this year without bringing much to the table.

I dont think NAS would want spare pieces for Askarov (as great as they are). I think the first would have to be a top 10 pick. Maybe move up first then move the pick for Askarov

Hart is probably worth the 2 1sts almost alone</div></div>
In 2013, a better Schneider was traded for the 9th OA after putting up some amazing seasons with the Nucks. With his stats the past 3 seasons (even though I see the potential), Hart isn't worth nearly two top 12 pick in one of the best draft in recent memories. And the players available from 8th to 12th are all pretty similar (I just did the trade to secure Reinbacher but he might as well be available at 11th).

Anderson will likely get us a first and a solid prospect this summer. Apparently, the Oilers offered Bourgeault and a first this TDL for him but Hughes wanted Holloway. On top of that, you're asking for the 12th-13th OA pick (extremely valuable this year).

Dubois and Mantha
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>I probably wouldn't accept that if I was Winnipeg. Could get a better offer selling him as a rental to another team</div></div>
They were in the same situation with Trouba a few years back and what they got was far worse than this (and Trouba just had a couple of really solid seasons). They didn't wait for the TDL either claiming what you just said. That top 15 pick is extremely valuable and we only have to wait one year for Dubois to sign with us without a trade (= better draft pick next year as well). I think for MTL to accept, youd have to replace Hoffman with Armia to make it worth it for MTL and switch that first for a 2025 one (with the condition that they get the lowest of both).
As for the Mantha trade, reading what's being said about him on Twitter and on the caps subreddit, it's clear that this guy isn't great at all and on his way out, and with that contract, Id rather ask them for a first (like with Monahan) and not send any salary back. Just something like Mantha and a 2024 first for a 3rd.

Mock Draft with Analysis (top 45)
Men, you probably havent watched many games of Smith because he is far from being good defensively. Despite playing C, hes always looming at the blue line (like a winger) in his own zone and always seems to be the last F back in his zone (doesnt cost his team much because Leonard is doing it all for this line in the Dzone). And his skating, especially his skating mechanic isnt good and because of that, theres little to no hope that he will be able to rectify it before reaching the NHL.
Playmaking is elite and so are his hands, but hes not a top 6 pick. Too many flaws imo. Benson is head and shoulder above him in terms of projectability and potential.

Hart hasnt been great since the MTL series. I certainly think that he still has the potential (and I certainly like the idea of him receiving the Dach treatment here in MTL), but you can't come here and say hes one of the best goalies in the league lmao. The value is great here, and you're not trading your pick completely, you move down 4 ranks
