How Many Games Should've Tom Wilson Been Suspended For?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mcoach69</b></div><div>Who is cherry-picking i'm asking a Question What is the length of the suspension if the hit was on McDavid or Mathews? or is it a suspension if McDavid or Mathews make that hit. Better yet is it a suspension for a first offense</div></div>
I'll give it a shot. If this was a hit by a first timer it would probably be a 2 game suspension, in my opinion. It would still be a suspension if Matthews or McDavid made the hit b/c the league would need to show they're unbiased-remember the suspension on ANA Forward Andrew Cogliano last season that broke his consecutive games streak? They suspended him despite a lot of media backlash, and he was a first time offender. Finally, if Wilson were to make this hit on a superstar player AFTER he serves this suspension, I believe he would be suspended for AT LEAST 50 games! The league would not tolerate, nor should they tolerate, a dangerous hit that injures a "face of the league" type player.

We were happy to see those players walk.
The only 2 options I see is 2 yrs at 4m or 6 years at 6.5m. I think he has already been left with his options. He’s just playing a little game of who will miss the other more, which he is about to lose.

The leafs will not make option 4 available. But if i was TOR id make a deadline that if he doesn't start negotiating on good faith when that deadline passes the deal is off the table and it now option 1 or 2.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jimmyjets</b></div><div>I strongly disagree with you there. This team for game 1 of the season is way stronger then last year's team for game 1 of the season. Mason was going to be the starting goalie and now he's out of the league. Connor wasn't on the roster and he went on to put up 30 goals. The subtractions are Mathias, Armia, Enstrom and Mason. 3 of those guys aren't in the NHL anymore and Armia was a depth piece that we can easily replace.
If you mean they lost Stastney, well lets see who we add at the deadline this year for an apples to apples comparison. The team was at a 105 point pace before trading for Statsney.
Are they the best team on paper? I wouldn't say that. I just think they're a trendy pick right now. Last season "everyone" had them missing the playoffs entirely. I would say they are one of the best teams on paper and I'd put them near the top. Maybe not #1 though.</div></div>
I don't like this team on paper or on the ice I reallyI can see them out of the playoffs but think I have them 4 th in the division

No. I just don't think Jake Allen is good enough. I do think their skaters are the best group as a whole. They may not have as much of that flashy, highlight reel skill that teams like Toronto or Tampa have, but they still have a bunch of skill, and their best skill guys are also their defensive rocks.
I think the best team front to back is San Jose.

One of the better teams for sure, but they aren't the best by any means. They don't have the centre depth of WSH PIT TOR STL, they have a solid blueline but STL and SJS still have them beat. The only place they are truly outstanding is in net, and we don't even know if Helly is the real deal yet.
They are a great team, and they will be a cup threat this year, but they definitely aren't the best team on paper. I do think they're better than the sum of their parts though

Even at 7.5m, that would make Nylander the fifth highest paid RWer. So really how realistic is paying a 20 goal scorer 8m?
I've always thought... is that Nylander truly wants to be a UFA ASAP, and he is willing to gamble to take short term deals.
Since he has 5 years till being a UFA, I think they agree to 3 year. The might sign an extension but I believe then Nylander goes to arbitration (like Trouba) for the two final years of his contract. That 3 year 6m deal might be high for three year deal. I'll bet that the Leafs don't try to screw Nylander out of few dollars and would do a 6m X 3 years as you suggest. It might be best alternative for Nylander too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Why would Nylander holdout for the whole season. That only happens when a player wants a max deal and his team says something like how about a 1 year deal for a box of flooring nails. Then the player holds out, but in a case when both sides want the same thing, eventually one side blinks.
If we look at this objectively and actually....you know....think about it, then its easy to see that Nylander is going to blink. TO has a tonne of depth, their lineup is sick regardless of Nylander in the lineup but its obviously better with him there. So if Nylander waits too long and Ennis continues to play really well with Matthews, then Nylander's worth to the team could plummet and his negotiating strength is gone.
So using logic, Nylander's camp is going to have to take the first step in this and that will likely happen this week. After he takes a step towards the middle, so do the Leafs and then likely a contract will be determined. That is the likeliest scenario.
Not both sides saying, "Yeah we want the same thing but its hard so lets blow it all up and start over with a bridge deal that no one wants."
So IMO, opinions are irrelevant, logic is what matters.</div></div>
logic would be to speak out and say we don't agree on a long term deal but i'll play on a bridge deal for x amount

My Top 10 Breakout Stars this season
I don't feel like racking my brain for only ten players, so I'll just name one for each team:
ANA: Ondrej Kase - Should see increased ice time after his impressive 20 goal campaign; should find his way into the top six as Perry and Cogliano get older.
ARZ: Christian Dvorak - Has shown steady improvement and could really flourish if Galchenyuk doesn't stick at C and becomes Dvorak's LW.
BOS: Charlie McAvoy - He's already broken out, but I think he'll become even more of a horse as he gains more experience anchoring Boston's blue line.
BUF: Sam Reinhart - With O'Reilly gone, Eichel will really get time to shine as a 1C, and with that we'll see Reinhart get more ice time and improve upon his 25 goal campaign.
CGY: Elias Lindholm - Playing with Gaudreau and Monahan should net him some more opportunities to shine and he'll likely eclipse the 20 goal/50 point mark for the first time in his career.
CAR: Andrei Svechnikov - My pick for the Calder will hit 20 goals/50 points while playing with talent like Aho, Teravainen, and Staal, and will establish himself as a legit top six scorer as an 18 year old.
CHI: Nick Schmaltz - He'll look to prove that last season was not just a fluke, and another season with Kane will help establish himself as a legit 2C.
COL: Samuel Girard - With increased ice time, playing with Johnson will help Girard elevate his game and become an established puck-moving defenseman.
CBJ: Oliver Bjorkstrand - If he gets top six ice time like he deserves, he can hit 20-25 by playing with a passer like Wennberg.
DAL: Miro Heiskanen - As Methot is another year older and slower, Heiskanen should easily establish himself in the top 4 and become an excellent two-way defenseman.
DET: Anthony Mantha - If he plays most of the season with a pass-first guy like Larkin, the big winger will likely hit 25 goals and become a legit scoring threat
EDM: Jesse Puljujarvi - If he gets consistent ice time in the top six with a center like McDavid, Draisaitl, or Nugent-Hopkins and not Ryan freaking Strome he's likely gonna find that scoring touch.
FLA: Michael Matheson - Had a good season as Florida's #3 after that random 8 year contract was signed; could eclipse 30 points.
LAK: Adrian Kempe - He'll likely see a drop in ice time if Carter plays a full season, but he acquitted himself well as the 2C last season and could see more responsibilities on the ice.
MIN: Joel Eriksson Ek - Talented player that was played as a 4C for some reason. A promotion to 3C plus time with Coyle and Greenway could give him the chance he needs to show off his skills.
MTL: Victor Mete - After a decent rookie campaign, he should get more time to improve his all-around game and become a legit offensive threat.
NSH: Kevin Fiala - You could argue he already broke out last season, but with his speed and shot I want to see more; specifically, I want him on the top PP unit instead of Craig Smith.
NJD: Will Butcher - I'd like to see him take the next step and become more than just a PP specialist; his underlying numbers are great, so I think hr can push himself on to that 2nd pair.
NYI: Anthony Beauvillier - If he gets a full season with Barzal and Eberle (assuming they don't stick Lee and Bailey with Barzal), he could hit 30 goals.
NYR: Pavel Buchnevich - With Miller, Nash, and Grabner gone, I can see him grabbing a top six role and building off his impressive campaign last season.
OTT: Thomas Chabot - If Karlsson is gone, he's gonna log some heavy minutes. He's already their best LHD, so I can see him really stepping up and having a McAvoy-like breakout.
PHI: Nolan Patrick - With Filppula out of the way, he can solidify that 2C role and really shine with JVR anf Simmonds as his linemates; I predict a 50 point season.
PIT: Daniel Sprong - It's clear he's too good for the AHL, but there's not a lot of room in the top six for him. Playing on the third line with Brassard could give him a nice transition into the NHL.
SJS: Timo Meier - Building off his 20 goal season, he can push himself into the top six full-time and really make some noise.
STL: Vince Dunn - Probably my candidate for last season's "Who's That Guy and Where Did He Come From?" Award; if Bouwmeester can't stay healthy or continues to decline, the 2nd pair spot next to Parayko is his for the taking.
TBL: Mikhail Sergachev - Another guy that probably broke out last season, but with Girardi and Coburn sucking and Stralman getting older, Sergachev could get top 4 minutes on the right side to round out his game.
TOR: Andreas Johnsson - He was excellent in the AHL last season, looked good in his NHL debut, and Leafs fans won't shut up about him, so he's a good bet to breakout on Kadri's wing, or even Tavares if Marleau sticks with Kadri.
VAN: Jake Virtanen - All signs pointed to bust status, then he suddenly looked good in the NHL last season. With 1/3 of the top six retiring and Eriksson looking like trash, he could get put with Horvat or Pettersson and look like an actual top 10 pick.
VGK: Alex Tuch - With Neal and Perron gone, he's a good bet to be on the 2nd line with either Stastny or Haula. I predict 20 goals and his butt parked in front of the goalie on the PP1 unit.
WSH: Jakub Vrana - I don't know what's going on with Burakovsky, but Vrana has superseded him in the lineup in my opinion. With Trotz gone, hopefully he'll get top six minutes and can utilize his speed.
WPG: Jack Roslovic - If Maurice keeps the top line together and decides to keep Little and Perrault as a duo, Roslovic could find himself with one or both of Laine and Ehlers on his wing. If that's the case, he'll ascend to the 2C role quicker than some expected.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Why?
So many people keep saying, "I don't think he wants a long term deal", "Nylander is looking for 8.5 million" or some other ridiculous statement.
Here is what we know, and we know this because it has openly been said to the public.
Nylander wants a long term deal. Toronto wants him locked up long term.
So if both sides want the same thing, why would they secretly both want the exact opposite?
I am sure the retort will be something along the lines of "you actually believe that what the team and player say to the public is the truth?" Of course I believe it! Why wouldn't I? There is no reason not to believe it. Now I am sure you are going to say, "They why hasn't he signed yet, see!?!" Just because negotiations are ongoing doesn't mean anything has changed. The most logical conclusion is that the sides just haven't found that middle ground yet. They are in a staring contest waiting for the other side to blink and it won't take long.
Here are some other thoughts.
While Nylander is holding out, he is giving other young skilled forwards the chance to impress. That can absolutely weaken Nylander's position. At some point I think he'll realize that if he waits too long he could be endangering his spot on Matthews wing. And there will be the blink we all are waiting for and then a contract could happen in a matter of hours.
My guess and this is just a guess based off nothing but other players and what will happen next year with Matthews and Marner up for their contracts, is that the two sides are likely settled on either 1 year of term or 1 million dollars per year.
Something like Nylander wants 7.5 for 8 years and the Leafs are offering 7 for 8 years.
Or something like Nylander is asking 7 million for 7 years and the Leafs are countering with an 8 year term.
Its probably close and eventually one of the sides will take a big enough step to get this done.</div></div>
i didn't say he didn't want a long term deal my reason for a bridge deal is the timing of it i don't recall to many players getting long term deals when training camp has started
