New York Rangers signed Chris Kreider (7 Years / $6,500,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tormundgiantsbane</b></div><div>This is probably the worst deadline day in recent Rangers memory. Could have gotten a 1st + prospect, instead we sign a guy who is ALREADY regressing. Excellent job Gorton, I'm sure you'll be buying him out in about three years' time. Kakko, Buchnevich, Gauthier, Kravtsov, Chytil all potential top-6 wingers - but we re-sign a regressing power forward who is already losing his scoring touch. A solid second half of the season doesn't count, before anyone says "he's been on fire lately." I've never smashed the "No" button on a CapFriendly poll so hard.</div></div>
Hes having a career year, how is that regressing again?

Cap is reasonable.. The years are likely going to hurt, but sometimes that's what you gotta do.

Term is the only issue, 5 years would have been ideal, thought they'd settle on 6, but ended up 7.
The Rangers have the prospects, they have the assets, but they don't have the experience and veteran leadership championship teams have to have. Locking up Kreids means this team chose the direction they want to go and I agree with it. Selling off this deadline would push the window back another 2-3 years, with a few minor tweaks this offseason and adding some veteran depth, this team could make the playoffs next year.
Also, in 1 year like 25 mill is coming off the books for the Rangers. This is a move knowing full well they only have 1 more year until they can make major moves and capitalize on prime Kreider,Panarin,Zibanejad.

Deadline Deals
Kreider has shown elite potential and is currently in his prime. He’s a difference maker on the Ice and is gunna probably break 60+ points this season. For the best rental on the market, someone’s gunna pay a 1st and a high end prospect. For the Islanders, they’re divisional rivals so if the deal gets done, there’s going to be a massive return for the Rangers. If Kreider gets dealt, I can guarantee you it will be similar to one of those deals.

not interest in the rental market, would like to keep their first, no interest in moving top prospect, injures right now dont change their plans
they are looking for hockey deals not rentals
could be a smoke screen but hes been pretty straight shooter when he does speak to the media. Are looking for a third goalie, he did say that. So the Rangers trading for one tonight makes it interesting</div></div>
I think every GM is going to say something similar to what he said; they want to keep everything close to their chest. They all want hockey trades if they are able to, but that's not always the case. I would not weigh his words too heavily.
Trading for Berube was likely because they were thin at goalie after NYR called up Shesterkin. I do not think it had anything to do with any of the goalies on the Rangers' current roster.

When you look at this contract and compare to the Morrissey contract it really starts to look bad.

Imagine believing a man that created a 20+ year playoff streak for your team is somehow bad at his job because there are a couple contracts you don’t like left behind. What a ridiculous train of thought. You’re like the kid that gets a free box of 24 doughnuts and then screams bloody murder because 2 of them dont have sprinkles on them. You’re delusional.

Solid lines your thoughts
You have a thought time with value of your assets. Connor Carrick wouldn’t even be claim on waivers why a team would acquire him. Sami vatanen for cody eakin one on one would be enough. The 2 2nd round pick and nick holden are worth more than john hayden. New jersey is a bottom team and you trade spare part of a bad team and think that you’ll get high pick or prospect for it, this ain’t gonna happen

Pretty fair value for all of these i think, nice job.
Could probably bump the COL 2021 pick to a 3rd and the SJS pick to a 2020 3rd. That is if you are being nit picky.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BSpadaro83</b></div><div>Pssst that Strome contract is borderline disaster and NYR should sell high on him asap. Fast getting 4 years is silly, dont give term to replacable depth. Yea he is a fan favorite but is also a dime a dozen. Playing him in the top 6 should be considered a crime. Hajek needs to be moved out not up.</div></div>
It looks to me like Strome has finally found his game. IDK that you'd give him 4 years. I'd take him to arbitration and give him what comes from that on a 2/3 year deal and see if he earns himself another raise when you get Hank and the bad contracts off the books. I'm sure bread man will make anyone good, but I don't see a reason to break up a good thing and reshuffle the line. We don't have many center prospects and the ones we have aren't too promising.
I don't think we need Kreider enough to justify paying him what he's projected to be going for. Maybe we trade him to CAR For Nino with a Kreider extension in hand? Idk. Just spit balling.

<strong>"Top 6"</strong> ... What exactly do you mean by this?
He's got 31 points in his last 80 games ... he's an average defender at best ... and he's making over $3,000,000.
If anything ... Ottawa gave up 2 assets for a negative value cap-dump.

San Jose Sharks signed Patrick Marleau (1 Year / $700,000 AAV)
It's very hard to see Marleau, at this point in his career, being any kind of difference maker at all. Even 15G won't move the needle much. The EK contract will prove disastrous and the window is about to be slammed shut on the Sharks Cup aspirations.

with ELC slide, he'll be also eligible next year to slide as well.. two years of slide for someone they know they'll want up in the big club within 3 years.. gives them an extra 1-2 years of control
edit: also minimizes the cap hit as signing bonus' do not slide.. so if he slides for 2 years, the signing bonus' will be complete by year 3 but he'll technically be under salary for another 2 years after that at only his salary

You’re actually over-estimating the length of time he spends with a team.
Since he left the Sabres in Nov 2013 thru April 2019 (5.5 years) he’s had 8 unique stunts with 7 different organizations (twice he’s been in Detroit).
That equals about 1.45 teams per season or about a new team every 8 months. He’s overdue.
