Real Cup Contenders
I know this likely isn’t know outside of stl, but the blues likely have no intention of trading neighbors unless they are bringing in a true superstar. He was one of the biggest bright spots on the roster this year and had around 25 goals as a 21 year old.

I agree. I wouldn't mind picking up Barron though.

Edmonton declines, would rather dump Campbell and Ceci on their own else where. Having almost 19 million tied up between Nurse and Skinner is a terrible idea

Edmonton has plenty of LHD, not sure why they would want another.

That trade doesn't make sense for Edmonton, as they already have LHD locked up pretty good. They'll probably just buyout Campbell and keep their assets for upgrading other areas of the roster.

That’s because Tanev is better, not that Ceci is bad imo. We could get positive value for him from the right team. No reason to move a 2nd..

Draisaitl. Over the last three years he has produced at a higher rate, but even if you want to put that entirely on McDavid (as if Marner is playing with slouches), he's still a center and Marner isn't.

I'll take the one who scores more goals, puts up more points, plays a more important position and costs 2.5mil less. This isn't hard lmao.

Who has more value in a trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>This whole narrative of "plays a more important position" is so overblown on here.
Draisaitl is better offensively, that's it. Marner plays a complete 200ft game, is a much, much better defender, and is a key piece to both the PP and PK units in Toronto. & the whole "$2.5mil less is gonna be absolutely blown away when Draisaitl makes more than Marner in a year.
The correct answer is that they're about equal in value BUT Marner is more important to Toronto than Draisaitl is to Edmonton.</div></div>
It's not even close. Being better defensively is nice, but you know what matters more? Being better in the playoffs. Draisaitl has 21 more goals and 30 more points in 1 fewer playoff games. Leafs fans are the only ones who can't see what is obviously true lmao.

Leafs get their 2C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>Is that why they tried trading him at the deadline to move cap space?
He’s not a top 4 defender. Keep dreaming.</div></div>
They didn't try to trade him for cap space, you just made that up.
Only 88 defensemen play more 5v5 minutes than Ceci does, making him a top-4 defenseman in fact. He has played top-4 minutes for the past 8 seasons, for 4 different teams and for at least 6 different coaches. You're obviously too delusional to see it, but he's a legitimate top-4 defenseman according to the people that get paid to decide such things.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>I think Oilers fans need to realize that Ceci is by far the bigger cap dump than Reaves is.
You can bury 85% of Reaves’ contract in the minors, you can only bury 35% of Ceci’s contract. Don’t know how you think it cost a 1st to move Reaves but not Ceci. More like Ceci and a 1st for Reaves.</div></div>
You don't bury top-4 defensemen in the minors though. :tearsofjoy

Leafs get their 2C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>Obviously a huge hypothetical here, but I’d think both teams decline.
For the Oilers, this would leave them pretty thin at centre. IF they decide to move Draisaitl or had to, they’d have to get a centre back in the deal otherwise it sets them too far back.
For the Leafs, Draisaitl isn’t really the type of centre they’d be looking for. He’d make more than Marner on an extension (likely $13-$14M aav) and while it’s smarter to spend money on centres than wingers, Toronto needs more of a two way guy in the 2C spot - someone to help on the PP and PK and that’s not Draisaitl’s strong spot.
Marner is arguably more valuable to his team than Draisaitl is so I’d think Toronto would be more likely to get more in return and yet you have Toronto trading a 1st round pick as well as taking on Ceci’s cap dump for a year. Just doesn’t seem like a logical fit.</div></div>
Is this an April Fools joke? Toronto would go nuts having Matthews and Draisaitl down the middle for 5+ years.
Edmonton declines pretty easily.

No they don't. Edmonton doesn't want a $5M backup, so they won't be moving their best non-roster trade pieces for one.
Skinner is their starter, Campbell will be bought out.

TRYING to have a quick turn around
EDM retaining 2.5mil on Campbell defeats the purpose of trading him as his buyout is either less than 2.5mil or slightly above (in year 3). The only thing they'd save is the 1.5mil for 3 years at the end which, in the grand scheme of things, is pretty minimal. On top of that, you have them making said trade in order to acquire a goalie that they don't really need (unless you don't trust Skinner after his performance so far). The trade simply makes no sense for EDM.
Since I'm unclear on where you're drawing the line between cost to dump Campbell and cost to acquire Jarry, I'll refrain from commenting on the value.
