Realistic Off Season
I think you will have a bit more money to play with. If their cap stays the same this season brown bonus should only be about 2.
I think they will buy out Soup hard to eat 4M in minors when you are in win now. That would give them about 5M to play with to build a deeper team.

yes I did. my point is you are off base. for staios to consider it would be less for almost every single one of your trades. While your point is its not going to happen my point is that it can and for less than what you have here.

not sure how you see them as extremely comparable. in pretty much every advanced stat Ceci is well ahead over the last 3 years. Also in those years Ceci has played more time vs Elite comp while benning has a huge lead on him on time vs 3-4liners.. Ceci is the better player.

Desharnais will be getting more than that probably looking closer to 2M range. I also dont see him leaving EDM
and as long a Arvidsson has a decent showing when returning from injury he wont be taking a paycut but rather get a raise.

Honest Thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Edmonton's situation with Campbell is always going to come down to the salary cap.
Conventional wisdom suggests that unless there's a team willing to take Campbell on as the cap-recapture part of a deal, or to take him for cheap, the Oilers are aiming to buy Soup out in the summer. A few AGM's I've tinkered with for next year have seen Edmonton run a cheap backup to Skinner - I typically use Rodrigue here - because the equal-to-or-greater-than $3M bonus hit that Edmonton is getting from Connor Brown doesn't leave a lot of room for quality investment across the roster. Assuming Edmonton moves Kulak and buys Campbell out, and that the trio of Broberg, Holloway, and Rodrigue all sign for just their qualifying offers, the Oilers are looking at having a hair over $12M to find two top-six wingers, a middle-six winger, a #4C, and a #2RD.
Do I think Merzlikins has a really good chance to bounce back to form on a team that hasn't been as awful as Columbus has in recent memory? Absolutely. But it's coming at the loss of almost $3.5M in cap space (the difference between the sum cost of QO Rodrigue and Campbell's buyout and Elvis' cap hit) and could be the difference between Edmonton having to forsake improvements that are going to be absolutely crucial in other areas of the roster.
If Columbus does this with some sort of retention in exchange for an asset (how much for a first?) then it's much more amenable to where the Oilers are going to be this summer, but I still think that being able to use that $3.5M to add to the skating portion of the roster makes running a rookie backup tolerable, if not legitimately feasible.</div></div>
I agree with this. the only thing I would add is Elvis was addiment and being a starter and created a bit of a rift. I don't see that as a fit for Edmonton.
Also If EDM keeps on track with their current roster/cap hit the bonus will hopefully only be ~2M on next years cap.

Another mediocre offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharcuda22</b></div><div>Why?
I figured they would want to try and clear as much cap as possible and a 3rd is a good price to do that and get a positive value contract that can play 2nd pair if needed but would be a good 3rd pair d guy (assuming his injury doesnt completely drail his career. 3rd also meaningless for EDM from a draft standpoint so might as well spend it, if yall have a better use for it then its a different story.</div></div>
Ceci is not a cap dump first of all
Ceci is also a better player than benning. so no EDM will not move the better dman and add pick.
THe better use for the 3rd is the trade deadline when you want a team to retain so you can add as much as possible then.

We have both never had a conversation with someone behind closed doors heading up to a trade deadline, we both don't work in any capacity in the NHL we are left with our subjective opinion. any thought other wise is nonsense as we really have no idea what the real truth is.

Plus Draisaitl, Bouchard and McDavid all need new contracts before Karlsson's runs out.
There's zero chance of this happening.</div></div>

Not odd at all his production slipped a nit after signing the 4.6M deal. so took less on the next contract. He is now coming off a 73point season in Cgy and is at 49 with 15 games to go. as well as those being back to back 30+G years. agents and teams will tell you the last 2 years are the most important in negotiating. I would only do one of toffoli or debrusk. and use the other for a 3rd line C that can give some flexibility with mcloed to move up and down then to solidify the bottom 6.

"Countless discussions" on gossip shows always turn out to be "I hear" nonsense without a shred of actual support.
But the credulous are the fertile ground of the click-seeders.
As you become more sophisticated, you'll learn the difference between sound and noise.</div></div>
You will learn you have no concept between sound and noise because you don't work in the industry either. People on this site, you included, have 0 inside information or real knowledge of anything that is actually discussed behind closed doors.
so I read and heard there was potential and you heard the opposite, so why is my any less credible than yours since they are coming from the same sources...
I am entitled to my opinion and you yours, at least I have the respect for other people in this world than to resort to insults and childish behavior. Share you opinions and try not to degrade someone else just so you may feel superior in some way.

No credible reporter has asserted that Anaheim management* has ever even entertained the thought of trading Zegras, and the only "smoke" that might exist comes from the consumption of recreational substances.
* It <strong>is</strong> true that Pat Verbeek has admitted that a couple of GMs have called him hoping to take advantage of him due to Z's trade value being at its lowest point.</div></div>
lets not also forget the multiple articles on TSN, Sportsnet, The athletic, hockey news, as well as the countless discussion on it live on air and radio and podcast.... I guess those are the wishful thinkers from cap friendly and dabbling in a little recreational substances... and yes lets believe everything an NHL GM says about a potential trade... no one comes out and goes yeah we tried to trade this guy...

LhD is our deepest position, Nathan Gaucher is a better prospect than Lavoie and Cutter Gauthier is a MUCH better prospect than Savoie, so that package plus a second-half first wouldn't be close to persuading us to part with Trevor Zegras even if Edmonton were in a different division.
I can't imagine where this came from. Trevor Zegras is a teammates' favorite, a coaches' favorite, and a fan favorite.</div></div>
I am not saying he's not a favorite there at all. but with rumors' management wanted to move him around the deadline and still might in the summer.. you would have to wonder why that is even a consideration given his age and where the ducks are at, and as you put it is a favorite or the fans team and coach.... doesn't add up where there is smoke there is usually fire.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jamnjon</b></div><div>I agree with most things you said, but the Sharks have a terrible local TV deal. In 2014 there was an article about the Sharks contemplating moving from San Jose because of how terrible the local TV deal was and it mentioned them getting 7M per year, and it lasting 14 more years (presumably until 2028 based on the timing of the article). By comparison, the top tier of other local NHL TV deals was 30M per year and other teams with similar fanbase sizes and market share (at the time of the article in 2014) were getting 20M. I know that's just the local deal and a lot of it comes from the league-wide deal, though.
I actually wonder if the TV deal's expiration will impact the rebuild at all with ownership wanting the team to expedite things a bit to have better viewing numbers in time for the start of negotiations.</div></div>
yes your local numbers may be low but that is why they have revenue sharing they will actually get a cut out of that other teams 20M deal.

also given that only about 34% of league revenue is gate revenue and majority is through broad casting and league sponsorships they are doing ok.
