RoR returns
I love ROR, but if we have to sign him until he's 36 AND we have to pay to dump Scandella's salary to fit him in...I don't know that it really makes sense to bring him back. They're going to be bad next year with or without O'Reilly, and what's O'Reilly look like in two or three years? There's more cost/pick/term efficient ways to fill out the center depth next year if competitiveness isn't an issue.
I'm not really sure they need to be paying to dump anybody, even Krug or Leddy. If someone wants them and they'll go, then trade them. But kind of like with the O'Reilly thing, team is probably going to be bad anyway, might as well just ride out those deals until you want to be good again (conveniently when those guys have less term and the NTCs go modified).

NICE!! Scandella!! Just what the Canucks need, another underperforming overpaid LHD-man!! Pretty soon we'll have them all.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>It's hilarious how Devils fans keep saying this. And by "saying this" I mean deluding themsleves. Butcher is not even in the same universe as Dunn when it comes to puck movement. And he doesn;t play physical, either. Butcher was a rookie year wonder on the PP, but has regressed hard since then.</div></div>
Its funny because its true.
Butcher has put up more points overall than Dunn, and in fewer games.
Butcher's pts/60 are higher than Dunn both on power play and at even strength.
And Dunn gets a higher % of his starts in offensive zone.
They have had similar possession statistics, Dunn a little better since he has been on better team. Butcher better relative stats.
And Dunn turns the puck over more than Butcher.
And Butcher's career hits-per-60 are similar to Pietrangelo's over same period.
Butcher also blocks shots at higher rates than Dunn.
So, no, we are not deluding ourselves. We are just pointing out what is actually true.
Dunn and Butcher are very similar players in value and production.

Think a different team would be more interested in Sanford. Ottawa doesn't have a real need for a bottom six forward right now.

Lineup Vs Avs
I'd love to see this setup. Give the Thomas line the easy matchups/deployment and see what he does for a full season with some real threats on the wings. The other 3 lines have enough 2-way prowess to neutralize most teams even if the defense pairings are weaker than they've been in the past.
Gonna be fun to see a real shooting PP too. Hoffman and Perron loading up from each side of krug. Pretty exciting.

Cap Space with Vladdy on LTIR
They're going to try out Thomas, Kostin, and Kyrou before they trade for anyone. Hate to say there's a silver in any of this, but if there is one it's the fact that they can properly acclimate one of these young prospects into a top 6 role.

Next year
I’m not big on giving Edmundson a raise, he’s been the worst defenseman this year by analytics, statistics, and the eye-test. I’d give him another bridge deal or trade him this offseason.

trade with NJ for MJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drew1871</b></div><div>What can you tell me about those two guys?</div></div>
Schmaltz was a 1st round pick, went the college route. Never really got the fair shake in STL because he was more of an offensive guy and we liked Bortuzzo as the stay-at-home, 3rd pair type behind Parayko/Pietrangelo (he wasn't taking their jobs). No one took him off of waivers so he really doesn't hold too much value, but he's still kind of young and deserves another shot somewhere.
Blais has developed into a really good prospect, I'd say he's our 2nd best AHL player behind Kyrou. His offense is definitely there in the American league but he plays on the 4th line in his call-ups and we don't see much besides a few flashes. He plays well in the bottom six already (physical/responsible), and has a good amount of scoring upside.

I didn't say we need a PP QB our PP is doing fine. Toronto shut it down because it's Toronto.

Apparently the Blues want a PP QB so maybe it’s Barrie. However, that would be a nonsensical move considering the cost we would have to pay inside the division to acquire a guy who’d be on the 3rd pair here. I’ll be so mad if the Blues burn assets on a quarterback when they’ve got Vince Dunn on a 38 point pace playing 17 minutes a game and making no money.

So maybe a fresh start helps there.</div></div>

Updated Opening Night Predictions
This is exactly what I think will be the case, except I think Walman will end up going to San Antonio and we'll keep J.J up, if nothing else because he would have to clear waivers and if he gets claimed we traded that sixth round pick for nothing. But either way, whichever stays will likely be the 7th D. That 4th line is going to be exciting.

Room for Maroon?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LGBstl</b></div><div>sign him to 1 year at 1.7 mil with an agreement on another 2-3 years at whatever AAV to be extended in January when you can extend current roster players.</div></div>
I didn't believe that rumor until I read about his back surgery and how nobody is willing to give him a long deal. If he's only getting one year offers, might as well play that year in his hometown with a team with serious playoff hopes. And if he looks like he's playing himself into a bigger contract, I would think the Blues would pay him what he earns on an extension. This would be a nice add if we get him for that cheap.
