If a trade for Kevin Fiala turns out like the trade for Sam Reinhart
You have to compare Fiala’s 21-22 season to Reinharts 20-21 season. Fiala’s season this year was far better than Reinharts season last year.

NJ would be all over this. I honestly don't love any of the goalies out there and this would provide a perfect stop gap for the next year or two. Talbot and Blackwood would be a solid duo I think. Next year will be Blackwood's final assessment year and think Talbot would be good guy to pair him with

That was also why they ended up going arbitration and signing for only one year deal for this season.</div></div>
Yes, he did. But I feel this particular ACGM is an response to those people who want to compare Fiala to Reinhart and Buchnevich. Instead of comparing trade values, <a href="/users/mnwild17" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@mnwild17</a> seems to compare contracts. So not that realistic or serious, just a flick at the people offering a 2nd for Fiala just because Buchnevich was traded for that.

Next seasons cap crunch
Honestly, think that's an overpay for Chych - you're giving a good prospect, a 1st, and in Dumba & Talbot you're throwing in 2 good players with less actual money than their 2022-23 cap hits (Dumba $6M AAV vs. $5.2M salary, Talbot $3.667M vs. $3M.) I think you could probably drag something else out of them if you wanted to do this deal - either dumping a contract you want to bail on or dropping the pick to a lower round.

And don't kid yourself, this doesn't mean you are getting a 1st. It's a 2nd until it isn't. And trust me, the chances it ever changes to a 1st are absolutely <strong><em>ZERO</em></strong>. I mean, good luck getting that 1st. 🤣

This ACGM in a nutshell is why I'm glad GMs don't listen to fans. lol
Rask is a lot like Prosser really: serviceable player that doesn't do anything special but the world also doesn't implode if he plays. Doesn't seem to complain if he's in the pressbox and haven't heard of him being a locker room problem. If he made around $1m, I'd be fine with them bringing him back next year if they can't somehow acquire a better forward to replace him. He's really not as bad as people act.

Fiala’s 0.8 ppg last year ranked him 69th (nice) in the league amongst forwards. He would have been 4th amongst Canucks forwards in points per game. This is really good 2nd line level production by a really good 2nd line level player.
At BEST he is a border line 1st line forward but at this point it’s just semantics</div></div>

Most Common Linemates
Fiala: Parise, Koivu, Johansson, Hartman, Bonino, Gaudreau, Hartman
Boeser: Pettersson, Miller, Hoglander
Since 2019-20, Fiala has the same output as Boeser despite less time, which means he scores at a higher rate. He drives play better and creates better offensive opportunities for himself and his linemates. He has a more positive impact on the game and contributes more to team success. He does all of this despite having significantly worse linemates.
The two teams have had similar PP% during that time, and Fiala and Boeser produce similar output (total points) on the PP as well, despite the fact that Boeser has averaged 1:03 more on the PP per game during that time. That means he gets 38% more PP time than Fiala does, and produces the same number of points on an equally competent power play.
This has been really fun, let's do it again some time.

Why Not
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mnwild17</b></div><div>AZ also took on 8 million in real money and 5m a year in cap for this year and next. And the 3rd round pick is gone if he plays at all next year. The 5m for a cap strapped team is MUCH more significant than 1.75M, even if the wild are cap strapped. If the wild made it a 4th rounder and a 6th rounder from SJS would you think it's bad for AZ still? How much draft capital would it cost for AZ to pick up 1.75M of cap?</div></div>
My understanding is that it was actually only $5 mil total, as the signing bonus was already paid. They also got an actual roster player, which seems like a smart move.
Consider that Columbus got a 4th for retaining 50% on David Savard last year, which, considering that there was about 40% of the season left at the deadline, works out to around $800 k.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are better ways to get to the cap floor than doing favours that are basically free for other teams.
Realistically, I think we're probably wasting our breaths here anyway...I'd say the chances of anything happening with Kane besides a buyout are near-zero. Even taking him on for cheap over 3-4 seasons is a pretty risky proposition. If I were a rich man, I'd bet a good amount of money that he'll get bought out, and sign a 1 year "I promise I can be a good boy!" contract.

SJS eat 13m of it, then wild and AZ eat 6.5 each. Which is not terrible and comes out to less than his cap hit would be over the 4 years.</div></div>
Sorry, I was just going off the next 3 years, and wasn't including this...I guess my point, be it $4.75 mil, or $6.5 mil, I can't see why Arizona would have any interest in eating that if the return is only 2 x 6th round picks.

Ryjo would be a better gamble than Duchene. 1.5 years younger, 1 year less term on contract, and (here's the biggest thing) the buyout (heaven forbid it would come to that for either player) is a lot more team friendly for Ryjo than Duchene. Ryjo's buyout (if necessary) is feasible. Duchene's is UGLY. I think Nashville is willing to deal either player in the right trade. As far as retaining any salary on either, is very questionable, unless you really sweeten the return.

I would look at it as what will Nashville pay me to take 6.5 mil of salary off their books. And I think RyJo will age better but if we keep Fiala, Duchene would match up much better with him. I just wonder if his game is gonna fall off soon.

Canes don't really need retention - maybe another team offers up more if MIN is retaining but after already giving up 2 top prospects and potentially 2 first rounders I wouldn't add anything else in. The Gardiner piece also isn't that necessary since they'll likely have him ending up on LTIR.

Only Eichel Deal i think BG considers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mnwild17</b></div><div>I would like to think that as well, but if nobody has seen the medical records yet then that means Buffs ask is way too high. Buff also needs to consider that his NTC (Might be a full NTC/NMC or a 10 team I can’t remember) kicks in after this year which further complicates things. I think that yes Eichels true value is higher, but teams can see the situation and want to make the best deal for themselves.</div></div>
For sure. Every team is trying to get the upperhand. The NMC isn't until Jul 1st next year so realistically they could hang on to him during the year and trade. But if eichel wants out that bad he would accept a trade to any team not buffalo so I'm not too worried about the NMC to be fair.
I think the trde has to revolve around some futures and some cap dump nhl players to get it done.

If you have watched the Wild within the past year you would understand why what you just said is the same thing. It was either pay Parise to watch games from the press box and Suter joins him a year later while they are still on the roster, or pay them to leave. It’s the same thing I’m not sure what you’re not understanding here.

If you swap out Dumba for a future, you’ll just get told you need an NHL ready center next. BUF has no consistency in what they want. I think it’s completely arbitrary until the GM and owner actually take a stance. Value wise I think you’re very very close here.

If Kahkonen gets picked by the Kraken, I will consider it a huge win for the Wild! I too see him as a 1b at best and more likely just a good, solid backup. Goalies like him grow on trees and the Wild have many good UFA goalies to choose from if needed.
