Swinging for the Fences
If we were to Sign Hertl, my guess would be that we would probably trade Hartman. His value would be sky high and it dosent make sense for us to have Rossi play 4th line. I wonder if Hartman would fetch more of a return than Fiala after this year all things considered, he’s shown he can play C, he can play up and down the lineup and his contract is a steal for the next 2 years. I would also add Mcbain to this roster as a 4th line center and not re-sign Sturm, would create 2.4M in cap room for this year and next.

It’s hard to determine where guys actually play during the year, but I’d say Pavs is playing a decent amount of center just based off draws taken. My guess would be him and hintz switch off for whoever is on their strong side

Addisons Height and Weight and also his point production and PIMs in the WHL are all closer to Dumba so I’d say he’s more Dumba than spurgeon, biggest difference is probably the big shot, but Dumba can’t even hit the net with it so who cares

I just can’t see GMBG slotting Addison into the 3d pair and have him play with Kulikov or Merril. His game is to similar to Dumba to keep both, and with the cap crunch Dumba will probably be the casualty unless he signs a 3 year 5M AAV deal with the promise to get paid after.

If the intent is to have Addison playing in the NHL next year Goli is the gone. Re-signing Merrill is a big nail in the coffin for Goli.
The kids for the d-corps come up 1 per season. Addison next year to replace Goli. ROR to replace Kulikov. Lambos to replace push Merrill into the pressbox. Merrill is there to cover if one of them needs more AHL time.</div></div>
Addison plays Right side, so if we were to do this who moves to the Left? Or are you proposing merril be our 2nd pair LD?

The big move i believe he will trade Talbot to free up about 2.5mil and get about $6mil in cap space flexibility to sign a couple more entry level contracts like Wallstedt & McBain. Thatll leave him about 2.5-3mil for free agent signings and leave about 1-1.5mil in cap space going into next year. Dumba could get a 1st for sure from Seattle i believe....or could be packaged to Vancouver for Horvat or MIller too. But i believe all will be done in the offseason and he will ride this group barring any devastating injuries for a playoff run and see where we are at.</div></div>
I think Billy G may ride with Talbot for 1 more year, and I think if I’m correct about JW’s ELC sliding next year then I think we go that route 10/10 with him

They got a 2nd and Malcom Subban and 1 other throw in guy (I think). KK is equivalent to a 2nd/3rd rounder Freddy G is like a 4th and they get another 4th on top of it. The value is extremely comparable.

Change Carter yo 3rd round pick.</div></div>
MAF and Billy G played together in Pitt so there's a history there. Billy G kicked the tires on MAF before signing talbot and its a cheap price to pay for a guy that certainly gives you significantly more confidince than KK starting a playoff game this year.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CFMan</b></div><div>Not enough for MAF. Lankinen/Kappo would be a nice duo though.</div></div>

Hawks get a goalie with solid upside and a solid bottom 6 center who is signed for next year, maybe billy ups it to a 3rd round pick but this is similar to the deal the hawks got for lehner, who was younger and better at the time.

Call me cray, but Hartman to me seems like he could be sort of a poor mans Brad Marchand, late bloomer Fast, skilled player with a nose for the net and an agitator. I doubt he will ever put up PPG numbers but barring a significant drop off he's going to have 45+ points this year. If his 5 on 5 P/60 can stay above 2.0 that would be a steal for a contract hes on.

26 GP 2.5 P/60
23 GP .5 P/60
Weighted Average P/60 2.16
Fiala last 3 years 5 on 5 P/60
64 GP 2.6 P/60
50 Gp 2.3 P/660

so fiala over the last 3 years has been better than EP at 5 on 5 by about .3 points per 60

Another one, Fiala last 2 years is at .77PPG and has played in 92% of his teams games, whereas EP the last 2 years is at .65PPG and has only played in 62% of his teams games. More PPG and he plays in more games, seems like BG is giving VAN a gift.

Why Not
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>I guess my point is that it's still actual money, for two picks that have a less than 1% chance of actually ever playing for the Yotes. You're essentially paying $4.75-$6.5 mil (Whichever) to get a couple of picks in the 160-170ish range, if not lower.
Alternatively, you're eating a guy like Ladd, paying the same amount or less in actual dollars, and getting back 2 x 2nd+3rd. That's a pretty significant difference, especially in a market where a ton of teams are sitting right at the cap.
I just think there's better ways to pick up cap out there. This is a mini move, that costs them in the long run.</div></div>
AZ also took on 8 million in real money and 5m a year in cap for this year and next. And the 3rd round pick is gone if he plays at all next year. The 5m for a cap strapped team is MUCH more significant than 1.75M, even if the wild are cap strapped. If the wild made it a 4th rounder and a 6th rounder from SJS would you think it's bad for AZ still? How much draft capital would it cost for AZ to pick up 1.75M of cap?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Sorry, I was just going off the next 3 years, and wasn't including this...I guess my point, be it $4.75 mil, or $6.5 mil, I can't see why Arizona would have any interest in eating that if the return is only 2 x 6th round picks.</div></div>
Because the actual money being paid is less than the cap hit. Thus they get to save an extra 125K per year for retaining rather than paying that out to somebody in actual money. AZ did a similar thing in the Datsyuk trade, where Red wings gave up the #16 Overall and Datsyuk for #20, #53 and Joe Vitale i think? So it was basically #16 for #20 and 53 then the 1.1 Cap hit for the 7.5M cap hit but 5 million in actual money.

i think it would be 6.5M over next 4 years. 4M in Signing Bonuses +22M in base salary =26M. SJS eat 13m of it, then wild and AZ eat 6.5 each. Which is not terrible and comes out to less than his cap hit would be over the 4 years.

Considering AZ has 50M in cap space next year, any extra salary retention helps them get to the floor. Can make them 4th or 5th round picks if it matters that much, not a huge difference between 5th and 6th round.
