LEAFS TRADE DEADLINE OPTIONS 2021-22
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>You didnt read what I said. Dubas chose rentals because of Seattle. Not because he wanted to. Many teams in general traded for rentals at the 2021 deadline due to pesky Seattle lurking around.
As why trade for someone you were gonna lose at the expansion draft that would have been a bad move.</div></div>
It was part of the reason but wasn't the only one. He was able to take on term with Campbell and Muzzin before because the cap was going up a healthy amount each year so they could resign their current players even after the trades. You can't say the same case this coming year or for last year

LEAFS TRADE DEADLINE OPTIONS 2021-22
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ZachHymanForTheHart</b></div><div>A lot of people are so quick to say we NEED a shutdown guy.
They aren’t necessarily wrong, but not 100% right either.
The Leafs play style is supposed to be a fast pace, puck possession, puck moving team. Guys like Mayfield and Manson won’t hold up. Klingberg wouldn’t be a bad fit, but can’t defend well enough.
We need someone is who isn’t turtle slow, who can defend, but also move the puck.
It’s not typically easy to find lol, but we have to understand that a big tough guy isn’t going to help this team in the way he would a team with a defence-first system.
Severson is a fairly good example, and a lot of people are very judgy based on his 2-game stint against the Leafs. when even our own guys have been on the wrong side of a highlight goal multiple times (Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin) hell, even Hedman, Fox and Makar have been on the wrong side of a highlight reel goal.
I don’t have the ability to look into advanced analytics and analytics cards as well as some others do, so I could be wrong, but I do still think Severson is a good fit. He’s not on the top of my list anymore (I’m not sure who even is) but he is still on my list.</div></div>
That's fair, I guess I fell into that pool of people that don't want him because of that two game stint. That GWG with Kerfoot and Mikeyhev might have been the worst played 2 on 1 I've ever seen lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Dubas is not a fan of rentals, the only reason he said they were targeting then traded for rentals was because of Seattle.
If you look at previous deadline trades before the expansion year, Dubas always went with players who had term
2019 = Muzzin (1.5 years)
2020 = Campbell (2.5 years)
So based on what we have seen hes gonna go for a guy with term.</div></div>
He also got Folingo, Rittich and Hutton as rentals last year. I think if we didn't live in a flat cap world then Dubas would only be looking for guys with term but with the cap only going up by $1 mill the only way the Leafs can bring on someone with term is if they make under $2 mill OR they trade a 3-4 pieces away this summer with no salary back

LEAFS TRADE DEADLINE OPTIONS 2021-22
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>Of what you selected there, the only defenders that I think the Leafs could possibly acquire (ie the Leafs and Habs are not dealing) that would provide them with a legitimate upgrade to their top-4 would be either John Klingberg, Josh Manson or maybe Scott Mayfield. I am much more hesitant at the prospect of the Leafs adding Manson or Mayfield because both are not very quick, and the Leafs play a hella quick transition and puck-moving game. It's one of the reasons Holl and, at times, Muzzin, has looked so out of place this season. The ideal fit would be Klingberg I think, or better yet, Chycrun, though both will cost large. Two defenders you don't have on your list are Travis Sanheim (PHI) and Connor Murphy (CHI). I think both of these players would be upgrades over something like Manson or Mayfield, I just am not sure what the cost would be to obtain such players with term.</div></div>
The reason Sanheim and Connor Murphy weren't including is because of their cap hit. I tried to include only players with expiring deals where a team can eat at least 50% of salary or guys signed to multi-year deals with low cap hits

He plays RD and Pietrangelo and Makar are already locks ahead of him. Likely behind him on depth chart are guys like Doughty, Hamilton, Letang. It's likely he gets the spot but I wouldn't call it a lock given the competition he's dealing with and not a long track record of being a star player

Fire Dubas
LOL you're a troll. Marner for garbage and Sandin for a 2nd and 4th.
Being a GM is easier said than done. Dubas definitely could have handled things better but you're just ignoring some facts. Matthews wanted 8 years but the cap hit goes up when you're buying more UFA years. Leafs couldn't afford to do that given how team is currently constructed
Marleau was signed by Lou so how can you blame Dubas for having to get rid of his bad contract? Zeitsev was also bad contract signed by Lou and Connor Brown was included so Sens would take the contract. Was also getting no mins with Marner, Nylander, Kapanen playing RW
Kapanen was traded for a 2nd round prospect and a top 15 pick in a deep draft. Certainly not nothing as you say
Only bad trades by Dubas IMO were Kadri trade (which another deal was in place before but got vetoed by Kadri) and Folingo trade which would have looked fine if he didn't get hurt

Sometimes the Leafs don't need to be involved in every rumour. I'm saying that as a die hard fan of them. Dubois isn't a fit as a C and the Leafs would be losing more than they are gaining from this trade anyways

Mikheyev is an RFA with less than 40 NHL games and he played well in his games but limited sample size. Dermott again is RFA and hasn't shown he's anything more than a 5 D. Both are 1 year deals under this no-growth cap and are show me what you can with increased opportunity.

All these people making fun of the Leafs for signing another forward when they need a D. No s***. If you can get these Russian players to play a top 9 role then can trade guys like Kapanen/Johnsson for D

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snipshow4416</b></div><div>Who gets selected in the expansion draft</div></div>
Leafs have set themselves up pretty well. Hyman will be a UFA for expansion draft so they don't need to protect him. Lilijdren and Sandin will be 1st or 2nd year players so they are exempt as well. Expansion rules are they need to expose 2 F, 1 D that will be under contract for 2021-22 season that have played at least 40 NHL games season before or 70 over career AND 1 G that will be under contract for 2021-22 season. Those players are likely Mikheyev, Spezza/Gauthier, Harpur, Neuvirth/Hutchinson. So likely Seattle would take Mikheyev

A new leaffor Nylander
This is not even close to enough to get Nylander. If the Leafs decided to actually trade him they would be aiming for a top 4 D in return or a great defence prospect. Instead they aren't getting back any current NHLers, prospects picked in first round or first round picks for a 22 year old who has hit 60+ points twice and had one bad season after sitting out half of it. If the tables were turned and it was a Leafs fan saying Meier 2nd for Bracco, Duzsak, 3rd and 5th they'd be getting chirped about how nuts Leafs fans are. Writing a lot doesn't make it a good trade

Not enough cap space oh wait I found it
Why would the Leafs make either of these trades? Your essentially giving up two first round picks for a rental in Simmonds and a better Polak in Gudas. Plus, haven't people realized that Pesce's value is no where close to Nylander?
Dubas has said numerous times he's not selling the future for trying to win it in one year
