Agreed, I think people on this site do not factor in that if Laine was even available, which he probably is not, almost every team in the leauge is going to put a package together to offer the Jets, to some degree. If 30 goals was a down year, watch and see what happens as he matures.

From the Jets standpoint not sure if that gets is done. Nothing against the players as I know they are good, but the Jets would definitely be looking for a top pairing winger and potentially a pick as opposed to quantity.

We can get Pujlujarvi for less than that. Roslovic is a high end prospect who has proven his worth and that he has a high ceiling.
Probably Perreault and a conditional pick at most is what it would cost.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>We will have to wait for training camp. RFA’s are waiting on marner. When he doesn’t report to training camp we will have to see if any of the rest are willing to hold out.</div></div>
I do believe in the domino effect and I think Marner is deffinetly the one to watch, but I think its almost a two tier market. The top being Rantanen, Marner, Point and then the second being Tkachuk, Connor, Laine , Boeser and Konecny.
I think we are likely to see contracts follow for those who are closer to a comparable for the player who signs first. So if Marner was to sign, I believe that we would see Rantanen and Point follow and then have some sort of traction begin on the secondary RFA tier situations, but I do not think that makes the contracts fall immediately or potentially close after.
But time will tell I guess.
Keep in mind that I only mentioned the high end forward RFA's

Winnipeg Trade
As the Jets quality is definitely more important than quantity.
That being said, and speaking off of trade value here, I doubt they would trade him within their own division. You never want to trade a star player who you face more often throughout the year and potentially in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs.

Maybe Ottawa should use NHL be a GM as an indicator on this trade because that would be a waste of long distance charges for Ottawa to call and make that offer to the Jets.

Trade for Jesse Pulj
As a Jets fan this is pretty reasonable in my eyes. Love Perreault but we simply cannot afford his cap hit next year, we can definitely sign Jesse to a team friendly contract and I would be okay with giving up a second round pick in 2021 if he can find his game and start producing top 6 points for us.
I think the conditional pick is actually extremely likely in almost any case as a team will need to develop him under their system from square one and build his game which will take a year or two, and then if he fits the bill and is productive a team would not mind paying the conditional. That is unless a team is willing to give up a first or good prospect, which I think is too high of a gamble and unlikely.
On Edmonton's side they are getting a versatile player who can play and produce anywhere throughout their lineup and if they end up with a second round pick, come out alright.
I like the gamble!

I think I would have rather kept Chiarot and paired him with Pionk. Not to take away anything from Gardiner because I think he would have more success on a team with more D depth, but he is a defensive liability when he is on the ice and we already have D men who can put up some points in Buff and J Mo.

I think we may see something like this closer to the second half of the season if Roslo can take the next step, but I do agree that Wheeler could be a key factor in Roslovic finding his game as the 2C. Copp centering Vesa and Appleton would actually be a great line in my opinion, that may help Copp begin to flourish as a C which would be key for us.
We could potentially come out of next season with great in house positional depth at C if all pans out.

Laine's situation is difficult, even buying a year or two of unrestricted free agency at 9-9.75 may turn out to be a good deal for the team. But I agree, less term and a bridge deal is more likely.

Trading Roslovic would be very irrational considering he will probably be replacing little soon enough if not by the end of the year. Even if Bourque does see significant playing time the lines will probably look like the following.
Connor Scheif Laine
Ehlers Little/Roslovic Wheeler
Perreault Roslovic/Little Vesalainen
Copp Lowry Appleton/Borque
I agree with the D lines
Also, Connor will probably see anywhere in the neighbourhood of 700-1.2 million more on a long term deal for 6+ years.
Laine on long term at 7 would be great but unlikely. 7 on a 3 year bridge maybe.
I agree move Kulikov even if it is for next to nothing.

Huge Jets fan here, wish I could make it to more games but sadly I am not local but I catch most of the games. I totally agree and if you watch his progress from last season you would see that when he was not scoring he worked on other areas of his game and he was miles better than the previous year in the other areas. Obviously there is still room for improvement on the defensive side but you can teach that. What you can't teach and what people forget most of the time is that he is also an excellent passer and a pure goal scorer, he knows they will come as long as he is doing the right things.
From a contract point of view it scares me as well with what he can demand on his second contract because if he refines the other aspects of his game, he will be in line for a huge pay day.

Love both players but age is definitely a factor and the fact that Laine is not even close to his ceiling yet also weighs heavy on the Jets.

Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>masterjuddi</b></div><div>What a deal for the Sabres!! not only do they get Laine but they sign him for the same amount as Okposo</div></div>
The offer sheet would have to be for 4 first rounders, and it would need to be out of this world for the Jets not to match. They have pretty good young D prospects so not surprising if they decide to play it out and trust their prospects, which is a relatively low risk for a team who drafts well.

WINNIPEG ROSTER
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>masterjuddi</b></div><div>Maybe the jets can just throw the line of Ehlers/Veslainen-Roslovic-Laine together as a 2B line and allow them to grow? Roslovic really hasnt had the chance to play with those guys and it's clear that Little doesnt fit.
Connor-Scheifle-Wheeler
Matty P-Little-Ehlers
Veslainen-Roslovic-Laine
Copp-Lowry-Appleton</div></div>
In my opinion I think it looks somthing like this. This spreads the wealth and also allows younger players to develop while having some veteran presence to guide them.
Connor Scheifele Laine
Ehlers Little Wheeler
Perreault Roslovic Vesalainen
Copp Lowry Appleton
In a perfect world that gives us a 1A 1B 3A 3B setup. I think Little will benefit by having Wheeler as the play maker and Ehlers as the legs to drive the line.
I also think Copp gets some time at centre as he had some success last year when he needed to draw in.
As a Jets fan I am actually pretty happy with that lineup to start the season, we did lose Tanev who I did like but now we have room for younger prospects to slot in and ramp up their development, I think our young players will surprise this year.

Also this roster is screwed up lol</div></div>
No doubt it will be Little to at least start the year, unless Copp or Roslovic jump ahead of schedule down the road past the all star break. But one of those two will be the future 2C and should have good success.
I agree, they should definitely split up Scheif and Wheeler to balance the 2 lines and create the 1A 1B punch. I don't think any player loses out with that setup and honestly most of them will gain and perform better. Easy in house fix

Yeah I agree, I mean I love Buff he is the spirit of the Jets and would love to see him stick around but I also like to think rationally and take a guess at what we could potentially get in return for him.
I think we will be doing just fine in regards with the development of our younger D over the next few years so I also wouldn't rule out us moving him, getting some pieces and having him come back as a UFA to finish as well, but time will tell.

I am interested to see how it goes down near the end of his contract. Do we potentially look at trading him to get something in return? Do we sign him to a team friendly deal here if he wants to finish his career with us? Or does he maybe go back to Chicago to close things out.
I really cannot tell at this point.
