What can possibly be the reason you trade away Dominik Kahun after how good and how young and how cheap he is. It’s NOT even close between who’s a better player. Kahun is ten times the player of Sheary.</div></div>
Because Kahun isn't staying cheap after this season. He's commanding 3.5-4 mill probably. Whereas Rodrigues can stay for less and Sheary is a rental for the rest of this season, probably.

Galchenyuk played 3 minutes in the Pens last game. He's essentially a healthy scratch right now, he has no value.

11 games in a row, sub .900 in 9 of them. Sub .910 in 10 out of 11. That's a horrible stretch of play for any goalie.
With two more games since this post was made, yeah, his numbers look to maybe be on the up, but I don't think saying he was having a disasterous season was out of line when I made the comment.

May be true, but the Pens have a lot of leverage now too, in that they have a very capable goalie in Jarry if Murray wants to play hard ball. Murray could be moved and the Pens wouldn't be affected to heavily.

There's no way he gets 5. He signed a two year, prove it contract. Had a middle of the pack season the first year and is having an awful season the second. He's not getting a 1.25M raise off of that.

Idk about that one, this year is catastrophically bad for him. But even so, there's over 3M of wiggle room if any of these contracts are undershot. I can't see him getting a raise with the way he's playing currently, and he didn't have a lights out season last year either

Every single player in the league is going to do what they can to draw a call. If they feel a stick in their back, they're going to go down. It's smart hockey, and if you thing there's a single player that won't do it, you're wrong.

50% would be the cutoff for me. 16 teams is fine for now, but if the league expands past 32 teams, it'll have to go to 20.
I don't think it should go to 20 for now. The playoffs should have some prestige and you should need to be a good team to get there. We already see some teams sneaking in with barely over 500 records with the current format.
Now, if we want to change the format and take the top 8 teams from each conference instead of the division/wildcard format, that's a different discussion

Will the pens make the playoffs
Barring an injury to a key player, the Pens will finish top 4 in the Metro. This is the same ol' song and dance everyone did after they lost in the 1st round in 2015. Crosby was declining, the defense was washed up, etc... then they won back to back cups.

I'm not getting the reasoning. Why would they sign Varlamov, who is older then Lehner, for the exact same cap hit that Lehner got, but for longer term? Especially after the year Lehner had for them?

I would say his biggest comparable player in stats would be Cam Atkinson (Cam just dropped 41Gs this year, but only 69 total points).
Cam makes 5.875. Buffalo just signed Skinner for 9.
That's a massive overpay, I'm sorry. Skinner should have gotten 6.5-7, max.

Who do the NJD’s take at #1?
They take Hughes for sure. It's not like the Devils are super deep at center. Hischier looks like he might be better suited as a 2C, and then they have Zajac (aging and declining), Zacha (not panning out to be what he was expected) and Coleman (a good bottom 6 guy). Can always transition Zacha to wing as well.

Even in the 6-8 range, that's giving up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick. I don't think either Johnsson or Kapanen are worth that return.

With what current RFA compensations are and the contracts the high-end talent are going to get (i.e. Marner/Point), I'm going to say no offer sheets. More likely an RFA gets traded if the team can't sign him.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet on Brassard being moved. 0% chance the Pens bring him back after this year, plus management is fed up with his lack of performance since he was acquired.
As to where he goes... Possibly in a package to Carolina for Ferland? I know Carolina might not have interest in him, but they could flip him after as well.

It doesn't matter who he hit. It's the fact that this is his 4th time being suspended in a calendar year.
League is sending a message to Wilson to clean his act up, or they're going to make sure he doesn't play. Keep in mind that doesn't even include a few borderline incidents with Wilson that didn't get suspensions during that time frame as well (ex. the hit on Dumoulin in the playoffs).

McDavid and Matthews also haven't been suspended 4 times now in 102 games played... that's a pretty cherry-picking narrative you're trying to push there.

(SJS / OTT) - Karlsson, Perron for Tierney, DeMelo, Norris, Balcers & picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilersfan089</b></div><div>I wouldn't say "always". You can end up with a back and forth situation where nobody really plays defense, and they just trade chances. Not a very good strategy to win. Obviously it's better to have a good mix of both types of dmen, but even better to have dmen who are good at both breakout passes and denying zone entries. One of the reasons people are so high on Doughty compared to Karlsson; he can actually do both very well.</div></div>
The narrative that Karlsson is bad in his own zone is oversold, anyways. Karlsson is just as solid at playing defense as most of the "elite" defenders out there. This narrative just sticks because of how often he ends up chipping in on the offensive side.

Erik Karlsson to Tampa Bay rumours ...
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rangersandislesfan</b></div><div>I have read in multiple places that Erik Karlsson could be going to the Lightning. Where am i reading this? Just look up 'Erik Karlsson' and you'll find a ton of discussion. Now, this whole time i have been saying that i think there's no way that they will trade him. And i still don't think they're going to trade him, at least this offseason, but i'm starting to feel like there may be a chance. What i'm unsure about is how Tampa Bay would do this. I don't actually think he's going to the Lightning. If he's traded, which is still an 'if', the Lightning are not the most likely place for him to go. They just extended McDonagh and they already had cap problems. There's no way to make it work unless you trade away some of your other players. Karlsson on the Lightning though would make a scary good team. And as much as i don't think these rumours are true, it still creates interesting discussion.
So the two questions which are kind of the same question are, how will they make it work? And what would they have to give up to get him? I'm thinking they may have to include one of their superstars, which they are probably unwilling to do. None of their superstars are a year away from becoming UFAs though, so Ottawa may have to add. If not their superstars, Lightning fans need to remember that you're not getting a 2-time Norris trophy winner like Karlsson for picks and prospects. Johnson, Palat, or McDonagh might have to be included. Or maybe Sergachev.
I'm interested to hear what you think will happen. Does he stay in Ottawa? Or is he traded? If he's traded, whom is he traded to? And for what return? Let me know what you think. Rumours are rumours, they're not always true, but they can be sometimes. And there are a TON of Erik Karlsson to Tampa Bay rumours.</div></div>
I don't see it happening with TB. They already have a set top 4 (Hedman, McDonagh, Sergachev, Stralman). They already extended McD to a nearly $7 mill cap hit. Hedman already makes close to $8 mill. Can't see them adding another defensemen that's going to make 10+ when he's extended. And I doubt they trade McDonagh, even for Karlsson, so soon after extending him.
