He's only hit 50 points twice in a 12 year career. 20 goals once.

Getting Brassard
Pittsburgh isn't getting Brassard, and you're seeing exactly why.
Ottawa views Brassard as a 2C, borderline 1C. They want that kind of payback for him.
On Pittsburgh, he would be used as a 3C. He's a luxury for Pittsburgh to have, but not for the price Dorion wants for him.
I don't see the value of Brassard matching to Sprong+Jarry+1st. Not if he's being utilized as a 3C. So if I'm Rutherford, I let Dorion try to get someone else to overpay for Brassard, and I'm looking for a Derek Ryan type 3C/4C that will cost us MUCH less to acquire.

Why? How do any of those players help Pittsburgh, and replace what's lost with Crosby?
Demko is 100% untouchable for Vancouver. He's their future, and they're a rebuilding team. Rebuilding teams don't move young top prospects.

This GM could get fired in the offseason, and i'm not kidding ...
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>phillyjabroni</b></div><div>Brandon Saad is a byproduct of Murphy's Law this season in Columbus.
I would make the contention that is was strictly a cap move. The replacement level of Artemi Panarin and Brandon Saad isn't worth was Panarin is going to get on the open market, while Saad is locked in a set price for multiple years. Panarin could easily demand north of 8M on the open market.</div></div>
I could understand the cap move, but Panarin is signed through this season and next season. I don't understand moving him with 2 seasons left to get a guy that is a less talented scorer at the same price, just locked up for 2 additional years. Maybe if it had happened this offseason, sure. But they were a team still within their cup window. They were coming off a disappointing playoff performance, sure, but their window was still open and most people had them pegged to finish top 2 in the central again.
I think it's much more likely that the rumors are true that Toews was in Bowman's ear, talking about how much he loved playing with Saad. It's a trade I've never understood since the day it was made. I think Saad is a good player, but he's overpaid for his scoring level IMO. He's a career 50 point guy, and that shouldn't translate to $6 million. Panarin blew those numbers out in his first 2 years in the league, and still looks to be a 60-65 point guy on Columbus without the benefit of playing with Kane.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HawksFan28</b></div><div>Hyperbole much?
Did the Hawks not finish first in the West last season? oh right they did.
So the Hawks have one bad season and "the sky is falling"???
Guess what? I heard all of this nonsense in 2011, then again in 2012 when this team was "officially done"...... I suspect that you would like to believe the Hawks are done like many do, however there is a difference between fantasy and reality..
Bowman, like every other summer was up against the cap this past summer and he had to make moves to get under cap, and trades that are made to get under cap will almost NEVER favor the team that is forced to make them....
Bowman for forced to trade good players for minimal returns and he had almost no cap space to make improvements.... The Hawks were forced to play what they have.
I would love to see what you would have done if you were in Bowman's shoes.
There is ZERO way Bowman or Q gets fired.... Hawks are a couple of veteran signings away from winning more cups.Yea, throw Vermette, Bozak, JvR and Hamius on this team - the Hawks are winning Cups... This team isn't even CLOSE to rebuilding.. The Hawks are closer to a cup than many "up and coming teams" that have a "bright future"..
If the Hawks have a couple of unsuccessful seasons over the next few years without a plan for the future - then you fire them... You fire them if the Hawks need to rebuild a few years down the line but Bowman refuses...... However as a Hawks fan, the Hawks aren't even close - NOT EVEN CLOSE to being in that position.
This core still has a good 4-5 years left in them until they're reduced to "role players" and IMO, I don't think guys like Kane or Keith will ever be "role players" - they'll either be impact players or they will retire.. Either way I see both playing until they're 38-40 with the Blackhawks.
Also, the future of the Hawks is very bright with the young talent they already have.... The only thing the Hawks lack for a future core is a young franchise player, but that may change this summer when the Hawks draft in the top 5 ... But as it is they're slowly drafting a young core as it is.... Schmaltz & DeBrincat are both legitimate top 6 near PPG studs..Henri Jokiharju looks like he can be a #1-2 puck moving defenseman, perhaps a Duncan Keith type.... Of course the Hawks have boatloads of young guys that can fill out the bottom 6...
What really hurt this team - this year was it's lack of experience.... But like I said: Bowman had no choice because he had no cap space.... This summer will be different tho - he will have cap space and he knows what he needs - and the Hawks don't need anything fancy to get them back to the finals - just a few experienced players that can play a role.
I could go on forever about why you're wrong, but I will leave it at that for now.</div></div>
I agree that Bowman isn't fired this offseason... But let's not pretend like he didn't make moves that hurt the team this year.
Saad for Panarin was a horrible move. Panarin has 47 pts in 59 games on a fairly offensively anemic team. Saad has 27 pts in the same number of games.
Wasn't a cap move, either. Both are making $6 mill against the cap.
Then you have the Hjarlmarrson trade, the recent moving of Pokka for a 4th liner... Bowman has earned a lot of leeway from fans and management (and rightfully so), but this year is not one he'll want to highlight on his resume.

Mile High Hockey Trades DAL MIN PIT
Coming from the Pittsburgh side... Why would Pittsburgh trade Cole, who's currently a roster player for us, to move down two rounds in the draft?
We could just keep Cole, let him play out the year and not resign him, and keep our 4th. Not really any incentive for Pittsburgh to do this, unless its just a cap dump to make another trade.

Yes, it looks bad. But also realize that Karlsson would have never hit the numbers he's hitting now with CBJ.
For one thing, Columbus would not be using him in a Top 6 role. He wouldn't get top PP minutes, etc.
Columbus clearly viewed him as a really good bottom 6 player. But he was never going to be more than that for them. Vegas is giving him a chance he likely wouldn't get elsewhere.

No one has been mathematically eliminated... But let's say the playoff line is 97 points... about average. Buffalo would have to go 30-1-0 over their last 31 to hit 97 points.
Arizona, at most, can get to 95 if they win every game left on their schedule.
Chicago would need 42 points, so 21 of 31 left. Its not likely, but its better than the boat Buffalo and Arizona are in

If Montreal retains 50%, he would fit under the cap with pro-rated cap space. Hell, send Cole back as well and Montreal can flip him, or make it a 3 way trade. Would be easy enough to do, if MTL is interested.

Now what if the oilers say Murray and 2019 3rd for strome and 2018 1st unprotected pens would most likely to pick in the top 10</div></div>
Pens aren't that enamored with Strome. There are other centers available without them having to sacrifice their good goaltending depth. You think it would cost that much for Plekanec? 2nd, at most, with salary retained on Plek. JR isn't going to deplete our goalie depth for an okay 3C in Strome. Oilers aren't going to trade their 1st in 2018 either, though.

Speaking of Hainsey, do you think he carried more value than Cole? Because we gave up a 2nd for Hainsey, and I think we could get a late 2nd-early 3rd for Cole if we shopped him. Both are very similar, both project as ideal 4th or 5th defensemen on a contender.
