Thread: Gamble

I kept it this way because I think playing with Panarin can help continue Chytil's momentum, and I think it's in NYR's best interest to keep the two headed monster of Zibanejad and Panarin separate. Regardless, having a lot of different combos that can make sense I think is a big benefit of this roster over signing one of Copp and Strome, where the roster likely won't be as deep. I think anyone in the top 9 on this roster can play on any one of the lines fairly comfortably, maybe with the exception of Goodrow

I don't know, I have to believe that Drury signed Goodrow to that contract with the intention of him being the 3C. That's a lot of money for a 4C player. Maybe they can get another rental or something at the deadline if they really feel they have to. I'd absolutely love Yanni Gourde, but SEA would have to retain 50% for it to work for NYR, and it'd likely mean losing someone in the top 9 anyway (at least after this year). Ultimately this is definitely a big gamble as you are putting all your eggs in Chytil being a 2C, as there's nobody else on the roster to fill that void if he struggles. It's probably why it won't happen, but still fun to look at it</div></div>

Ultimately I do think they just re-sign Copp, but of the 3 of Copp Strome and Vatrano I really do think Vatrano has been the most noticeable lately. However our lack of depth at C makes it that much more important to lock in Copp/Strome or trade for a 2C. As for Goodrow I think he was signed to play really anywhere in the middle 6 because of his versatility but he might have to be 3C next year out of necessity, I don’t really think they view him as a 4C next year just think he’s playing there in these playoffs because we’re pretty much fully healthy.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mvp13</b></div><div>Nice list, I agree with it for the most part, expect I would move Blais, Trouba, and Miller, all up one tier.

Blais was projected to be a 4th line throwaway in the preseason and training camp, and likely a trade deadline flip. But he's really shown himself to have upside and be a middle 6 winger. Fast, physical, and sneaky good skill and hands... he's at least blown away my expectations. Almost reminds me of a Lindros type. I think if he gets more time to show his offense and skill, his confidence will only grow and he'll get better. He was tucked into the 4th line for the most part on STL, I think we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg

Miller and Trouba are playing solid shut down defense, while jumping up into the rush and contributing to scoring chances when needed. Trouba himself has personally saved several goals, including that near game winner in overtime on Matthews. I think they're right where they should be. I have no problem with them not getting many offensive points, that's what Fox and Lundkvist are for. But I wouldn't say they are doing anything less than they should. Maybe Miller should be better on the PK, but I don't mind giving him more 5 on 5 time, since he did seem to get pretty burned out by the end of the last shortened season

It's pretty crazy the Rangers are doing so fairly well with Zibanejad and Panarin not being that strong yet! Hopefully Kreider doesn't cool off once they heat up like what usually happens...</div></div>

you know what, you're right. the thing with miller is he can be a lot better. he's got size, he's super talented, and has such a good shot, so I'm just a bit disappointed with how he's performed so far. thinking about it a bit though I've been happy with how well trouba's done. on paper the two havent been amazing offensively, but how many times has trouba gone deep in the offensive zone, even down to the corner, making really smart plays to keep the puck moving in the zone, and creating scoring chances. they've kinda been victim to the rangers struggling to score, but once those points come ill start rating them higher.

i dont wanna overreact about blais quite yet. he's definitely someone with a much higher ceiling than expected, someone who can get top 6, 2nd powerplay unit minutes. he was extraordinary when he got to play in a bigger role in the preseason, and hes shown glimpses of that same talent this year. he also plays a physical game that i really like. he doesnt overdo it, and hes very smart about when to hit and when not to, and he doesnt take stupid penalties. i bet if the rangers were to make the playoffs, he'd play a very important role in going far.

and yes, the point of this list was partly to talk about zibby and panarin. in the last two seasons, the rangers have only looked like a playoff contender when zibanejad and panarin have been.. well zibanejad and panarin. however, now we've gone 6-2-1 despite how panarin and zibby are playing, and on top of that strome and kakko were out for significant portions of that, two players who are also key offensive pieces. hypothetically if the goaltending and defense is this good, all we need is for those two to step it up, and start producing
