<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jastone</b></div><div>Carrier wont fetch similar to Tanev.

A good prospect and a 3rd should be way than enough for Carrier, that is why I also included a 4th line winger (looking for a high hitting 4th liner)....which doesnt have to be Smith.

Grzy is still a reliable more offensive D man that can still play well on that third Pairing for NSH.</div></div>

At least quote me next time so I can see you responded.

Carrier absolutely could fetch a very similar package to Tanev for all of the reasons I stated earlier. If you don't value him that way that's fine, but his price probably starts with a second and a decent prospect. Again we're in a playoff spot and have no reason to sell low on these guys, if the organization would rather try and get to the playoffs for the gate revenue. Then attempt to resign these guys before free agency.

If Grzelcyk was good enough you wouldn't be trading him. Nashville has no need for any more LD so adding him is not meeting Nashville's needs if we dump Carrier. We'd probably look to bring someone up from Milwaukee to fill in. And unfortunately Nashville doesn't have any 4th line wingers that are hard hitting available. Maybe Sherwood or Trenin. Sherwood hits hard but is smaller and Trenin is more of a shutdown 3rd liner, so his price is closer to a 3rd.

As for the prospect, Nashville's prospect pool is full of wingers as talented as Merkulov is. They'd be asking for a RD or C prospect unless they have someone they particularly like, but Boston doesn't have a whole lot to chose from.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>Yes Chychrun might have been overrated by some but he's been ranked fairly high among NHL D-men at an early age. I understand you are not looking to make that type of deal but I was simply arguing the "<em>I personally think Saros has more value than Chychrun</em>". I agree with pretty much all the rest

Note that both Saros and Chychrun are not having their best seasons too.</div></div>

I understand he's been highly ranked and overrated. That's why I'm pointing out his poor performance saying he's not worth what was paid for him and not worth a return that Saros might garner.

My argument was not supposed to be an opinionated argument. I was trying to point out that Chychrun this year is closer to a 3-4 Offensive dman because he's been exposed playing top pairing minutes, and not worth the price of a starting goalie. And while saros isn't having his best year, his performance can also be attributed to poor team play in front of him. If you check his more recent games he's performing admirably and righting the ship on statistics and bringing them back to what we've seen from him before. Where as Chychrun has stayed the same offensively but continually let his team down with poor defensive performance.

So the point I was trying to make is Chychrun isn't a top pairing dman, wasn't worth paying 12th OA and two seconds to get, and certainly isn't worth close to that value now. You all paid for what you thought was a top pairing guy, but all you got a nice 5v5 Offensive dman who probably tops out playing on the second pair. But he is by no means a top pairing D or worth the value of a Vezina caliber goaltender even in a down season

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Again, if any of these guys were in the AHL they would be tearing it to shreds.

Sure askarov has the highest upside. He also has by far the lowest floor. We know that every one of the players I listed (except Nikishin) can be a productive NHLer. Now you're getting into just the nuances of why goalies are so volatile (and why they get so little in Trades, Contracts, and are drafted so late compared to other positions).

Seems like you're holding all these guys to a much higher standard. Why can askarov, an AHLer at 22, turn elite, but a 22 year old who's shown effectiveness as a top 6 forward or top 4 winger not take that next step.

And even then the position don't have to turn into franchise defining players.

Bo Horvat vs Ilya Sorokin. Horvat got paid more (more valuable to an NHL team in their eyes). I'd bet on almost all of the guys I listed turning into a Bo Horvat over Askarov being on the level of Sorokin.
Mark Schiefele vs Connor Hellebuyuck. They got the same. I'd bet on most of the guys I listed becoming Schiefele over Askarov becoming Hellebuyuck.</div></div>

I feel like we got away from the main point I tried to make which was Askarov has more value now than he did when he was drafted. I'm not trying to say any of those guys are not valuable or won't turn into fantastic players, some franchise some not. I'm saying while I understand the league values goalies differently Askarov's value is higher now and has continue to go up. I also think he goes higher in a redraft because of hindsight teams that feel they are a goalie away can grab one that has that ceiling.

You're saying he doesn't have as much value because of his placement in the draft class. I'm saying his value is higher because that was a great class and he still very likely goes high in the first round in a redraft.

I hate debating in a forum like this because going back through the thread to check what was said to make sure I'm not misspeaking is tedious.
