Even with an extension this is bad for Nashville. This year they were retooling and exceeded expectations. They won't be selling a large part of their future for a winger who will be 30 when the next season starts.

Nashville declines both trades.
Our bottom six is fine and we're set on LD. We have depth in Milwaukee and don't need to be spending premium picks on depth for a playoff run in a year where we exceeded expectations and were considered to be retooling.
Guentzel is a good piece and one I could see the Preds being interested in, but not for that price. We don't need him retained our cap this year is fine. We'll also look to move Barrie, which should clear up another 2 mill at least. Nashville won't be buying big at the deadline unless they target someone with term. They certainly won't be giving up so many futures. Trotz has already said he's trying to balance looking to the future while not tearing down for a full rebuild, but staying competitive.

It would take an extreme overpay to get Carrier out of Nashville, not to mention in division and to a team we might face in the playoffs. The first is a good start, but I'd imagine you'd have to add someone to replace him in the lineup or a prospect.

Buch and Carrier
Nashville will not be selling this deadline, and if they do it will be pieces like Barrie not playing in the lineup.
Carrier retained would fetch more than that if he were available either way. It would take an extreme overpay to get him to a team in the same division that we may face in the playoffs.

adding this deadline
Preds will look to add probably a cheap secondary scorer if possible. I think someone like Rielly Smith from Pittsburg. Someone we can plug in the 2nd line instead of Jankowski. Dorofeyev is interesting, but we've seen Kunin on this team and it didn't work out last time. I doubt we try that experiment again.
Overall Preds won't add big and probably rely on depth in Milwaukee to help them in a playoff push. But I could see them trying to swap Barrie for some forward help

Preds won't be big buyers this year. Especially taking young cost controlled guys off our roster for rentals. Chychrun is a bad fit for Nashville. We need a top pairing RD upgrade, Chychrun has been exposed playing top minutes whereas Fabbro most commonly plays with Josi and compliments him quite well right now.
Chychrun doesn't have as much value as you think. Everyone thought he had a ton of upside coming from Arizona and Ottawa's usage exposed him as a defensively weak, 2nd pairing, 5v5 offensive guy. Still valuable, but nowhere near as much as Ottawa fans expect to get back.

I think it would take an overwhelming package to get Novak out of Nashville now. He's the best secondary scorer we have, and supposedly contract negotiations are close to being done.

If we’re trading Saros the pieces need to be futures. A couple of picks and a young prospect a C or RD preferably.

Batherson is a nice piece, but not the one Nashville would need or want if we’re trading Saros.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jastone</b></div><div>Carrier wont fetch similar to Tanev.
A good prospect and a 3rd should be way than enough for Carrier, that is why I also included a 4th line winger (looking for a high hitting 4th liner)....which doesnt have to be Smith.
Grzy is still a reliable more offensive D man that can still play well on that third Pairing for NSH.</div></div>
At least quote me next time so I can see you responded.
Carrier absolutely could fetch a very similar package to Tanev for all of the reasons I stated earlier. If you don't value him that way that's fine, but his price probably starts with a second and a decent prospect. Again we're in a playoff spot and have no reason to sell low on these guys, if the organization would rather try and get to the playoffs for the gate revenue. Then attempt to resign these guys before free agency.
If Grzelcyk was good enough you wouldn't be trading him. Nashville has no need for any more LD so adding him is not meeting Nashville's needs if we dump Carrier. We'd probably look to bring someone up from Milwaukee to fill in. And unfortunately Nashville doesn't have any 4th line wingers that are hard hitting available. Maybe Sherwood or Trenin. Sherwood hits hard but is smaller and Trenin is more of a shutdown 3rd liner, so his price is closer to a 3rd.
As for the prospect, Nashville's prospect pool is full of wingers as talented as Merkulov is. They'd be asking for a RD or C prospect unless they have someone they particularly like, but Boston doesn't have a whole lot to chose from.

Cole Smith signed a 2 year extension so he's not leaving.
Tanev's package is around where the value for Carrier should be. The flames pulled the trigger too soon, and honestly didn't get the value they should have. Carrier is a little more offensively reliable, but not as good defensively. I think he could fetch a second and prospect himself. Not to mention you're paying Nashville more because we're in a playoff spot and not actively tanking yet.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>Yes Chychrun might have been overrated by some but he's been ranked fairly high among NHL D-men at an early age. I understand you are not looking to make that type of deal but I was simply arguing the "<em>I personally think Saros has more value than Chychrun</em>". I agree with pretty much all the rest
Note that both Saros and Chychrun are not having their best seasons too.</div></div>
I understand he's been highly ranked and overrated. That's why I'm pointing out his poor performance saying he's not worth what was paid for him and not worth a return that Saros might garner.
My argument was not supposed to be an opinionated argument. I was trying to point out that Chychrun this year is closer to a 3-4 Offensive dman because he's been exposed playing top pairing minutes, and not worth the price of a starting goalie. And while saros isn't having his best year, his performance can also be attributed to poor team play in front of him. If you check his more recent games he's performing admirably and righting the ship on statistics and bringing them back to what we've seen from him before. Where as Chychrun has stayed the same offensively but continually let his team down with poor defensive performance.
So the point I was trying to make is Chychrun isn't a top pairing dman, wasn't worth paying 12th OA and two seconds to get, and certainly isn't worth close to that value now. You all paid for what you thought was a top pairing guy, but all you got a nice 5v5 Offensive dman who probably tops out playing on the second pair. But he is by no means a top pairing D or worth the value of a Vezina caliber goaltender even in a down season

Swap Carrier and Fabbro and take the second out of Nashville's side or make it a much lower pick and I think we'd accept. Dellandrea doesn't move the needle a whole lot for Nash and Faksa having another year on his contract isn't a good thing. Not to mention at this point any trade where Nashville is a seller, the team buying is also paying a premium because we're in a playoff spot.

Supposedly the number that Novak's camp and the Preds are around is something in the 4-5m range for 4 years. It sounds like his camp wants it at the top of that and Trotz and the Preds would prefer less.
Truth of the matter is Novak probably wants to test free agency if he gets traded and doesn't go on to win the cup or something. He's 26 and this next contract might be his only chance to cash in big, so he goes to market to see what the highest bids are.
As for the trade I think Nashville would decline because they could potentially get better packages trading both guys separately, and you have to consider they're in a playoff spot. So it will take an overpayment to get players off the roster.

Saros won't resign for that little and that short. His camp has already let Trotz know they're looking at Hellebuyck's contract as a comparable. Either way Nashville would decline. The only piece they're getting back that has value is Tkachuk, and Nashville's issues at forward are down the middle. This is just a bad fit because the upgrade from Nyquist to Tkachuk isn't worth the downgrade from Saros to Korpisalo or the future 2nd.

I wouldn't say he's being favored long term, but Nashville knows what they have and they're carefully weighing their options and seeing what happens. They won't let Saros go before Askarov is ready without a good payment. And they won't rush Askarov to the NHL to make sure he develops properly.

I don't think another good season in the AHL changed his value in a meaningful way at this age.</div></div>
I disagree, that value is not a good indicator because I do believe his dominant season in the AHL deserves consideration. I do value his AHL play because he's more likely to face someone who has an NHL shot than someone shooting in the AHL is to face an NHL goalie. His maturation and development this year matters, saying it doesn't feels unreasonable. That's like saying that each one of those guys you listed earlier who hasn't taken a step forward in the NHL will never improve or take the next step. Someone like Lundell for instance who some would say took a step back this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Again, if any of these guys were in the AHL they would be tearing it to shreds.
Sure askarov has the highest upside. He also has by far the lowest floor. We know that every one of the players I listed (except Nikishin) can be a productive NHLer. Now you're getting into just the nuances of why goalies are so volatile (and why they get so little in Trades, Contracts, and are drafted so late compared to other positions).
Seems like you're holding all these guys to a much higher standard. Why can askarov, an AHLer at 22, turn elite, but a 22 year old who's shown effectiveness as a top 6 forward or top 4 winger not take that next step.
And even then the position don't have to turn into franchise defining players.
Bo Horvat vs Ilya Sorokin. Horvat got paid more (more valuable to an NHL team in their eyes). I'd bet on almost all of the guys I listed turning into a Bo Horvat over Askarov being on the level of Sorokin.
Mark Schiefele vs Connor Hellebuyuck. They got the same. I'd bet on most of the guys I listed becoming Schiefele over Askarov becoming Hellebuyuck.</div></div>
I feel like we got away from the main point I tried to make which was Askarov has more value now than he did when he was drafted. I'm not trying to say any of those guys are not valuable or won't turn into fantastic players, some franchise some not. I'm saying while I understand the league values goalies differently Askarov's value is higher now and has continue to go up. I also think he goes higher in a redraft because of hindsight teams that feel they are a goalie away can grab one that has that ceiling.
You're saying he doesn't have as much value because of his placement in the draft class. I'm saying his value is higher because that was a great class and he still very likely goes high in the first round in a redraft.
I hate debating in a forum like this because going back through the thread to check what was said to make sure I'm not misspeaking is tedious.

Nashville declines. We don't need a defenseman unless we're offloading one in the trade, we're not in the market to be adding pieces that cost futures, Kemell is untouchable unless the piece coming back is a young forward, and Sissons wouldn't be a piece we'd part with if we were buying.

Again, AHL production is nice and promising but Mavrik Bourque is leading the AHL in scoring. Do you hear about him going above all these productive NHLers in a redraft?</div></div>
I feel the need to point out again other than Faber, Stutzle, and Byfield, none of those other players appear to be franchise defining at this point in their careers where we can more reasonably project that. Askarov absolutely has that potential which gives him more value and would put him at least in the top 10.
And a redraft you can more clearly evaluate the needs of the team. Do you really think you need another winger or dman more than a goalie?
And to point out Askarov has played in the NHL. Granted it was a limited sample size, but he didn't look out of place. His stats for the time he was up was 1.47 GAA and a .943 Sv%. Very limited sample size, but a very solid performance.

Also who's to say he wouldn't fall to 18.
Askarov hasn't shown anything at the NHL level. It's the AHL. Alex Holtz for example was dominant in the AHL all the way back in 2021.
I'd offer Holtz for Askarov 1 for 1 tho.</div></div>
The devils drafted Holtz at the 7 spot. If you're saying you'd swap them then you're saying he's worth the 7th pick in a redraft
Also four teams in front of the devils at 18 are the Oilers, Leafs, Canes, and Canadiens. All of them would heavily value someone who might be a franchise goaltender
