Lol matched instantly. If you want a chance at offersheeting Otter it starts with 8 mill. You need to come terms that Murray is the starter

Factor in the MacK extension
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nchest</b></div><div>MacKinnon is one superstar I could see take less to keep his team competitive. He is best friends with Crosby who has never made over $10 million to help his team. I think MacKinnon takes $10.5 million on a 7 or 8 year deal</div></div>
I agree with everything you said here, but it’s important to note that Crosby’s situation is a little bit different. When he signed is 5/43M deal in 2008, the cap was 56,300,000, meaning his 8.7M deal accounted for 15% of the cap. It obviously went down from there, with his next deal in 2013 initially accounting for 13.5% of the cap (using 64,300,000 as a the cap). If Mackinnon took 13.5% of the cap in 2023, his salary would be 11.272M. So while Crosby never took 10M, he always took up a significant portion of his teams cap space

Gross underpayment on Palat. I think the contract he gets will age poorly but he’ll definitely get it.

Barring a complete collapse, there is no way Mikeyhev is playing 4th line minutes. Slot him on the third line with Kerfoot/Spezza at center and Kapenen on the wing

This is so bad for the Leafs. Losing NHLers on the team and only getting one in return. If you're going to get rid of any Leaf Dman why not get rid of the worse one, instead of following the usual Ceci is so bad nonsense.

So the leafs will be waiving Petan, agostino, gravel and Wilson. Korshkov is being sent down. Would assume this looks good for Timashov. Possibly marchment asca healthy scratch with shore and Holl.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nchest</b></div><div>I'm not sure they can keep him up all year, as he likely has playing bonuses that they could not afford to hit the cap</div></div>
Dubas and Sandin's agent agreed on no playing bonuses to avoid this exact scenario. Gets him to the NHL sooner and he likely makes up for it in his first contract

Hes in real financial trouble. Owes a casino in Connecticut 900k and cant pay it back, they took his jet, etc. Hes broke I think and the NHL will force him to sell

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nchest</b></div><div>LOL, hell no. You are trading away Nylander, our top forward prospect, and a 2nd round pick, for one year of Brodie (who knows if he re-signs) and really a 4th line center that you put as a 3rd line center. You might as well fire Dubas now if he did that trade.</div></div>
Even if Brodie re-signed it would still be a terrible trade.

No Pressure to Sign Marner Yet Per Mike Johnson TSN
original poster is correct. LTIR is way more complicated than just, "throw them on LTIR and the problem goes away." Also, we don't know all the details of LTIR, the vast majority of it isn't available to the public. I've heard enough general managers and reporters reference it that I'm very confident that it is accurate that while you can use LTIR during the off season, and during the season, there's this odd window where you have to be cap compliant. Think of it this way, LTIR contracts ARE on the cap. LTIR allows you to replace that money. So it does make sense that for day 1, Horton is going to count. It might not even be day 1, it might be hour 1, or minute 1, but the original poster is correct to some extent.

Marner on a bridge
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>go back and read my last two posts. It specifically shows why they are bad comparables.</div></div>
Again your points are emotion based. Taxes do not play a big roll. Also if you want to talk about taxes, talk about how the leafs Offset that small amount by frontloading the contract with Bonus's. Makes that point moot.
Aho and marner we can have an arguement on who is better. I have time for that discussion. But Fact they are so similar. But fact- aho plays center. Fact-he scores more goals. Fact-both of those things are more valuable and give you more money in the NHL, regardless of team.
Matthews- best 5v5 goal scorer in the entire league last 3 years
Marner- not even top 30 in goals, not even top 10 in assists.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>Your over the cap and gave Marner way too much.
Also I gotta think it's Johnsson on Matthews left.
I'm not even sure Mikheyev makes the team. I think Agostino is ahead of him and Petan and would think Bracco is up there too</div></div>
Mikheyev is the Russian Hyman with a better set of hands. He's the type of player Babs loves and the type of player the Matthews line needs. Both Wily and Matthews need the puck so why not get them a grinder to get them the puck. Johnsson - Kerfoot - Kapenen will make for a great third line and will help the Leafs matchup vs most teams.
