Year start
You get the quintessential 4th line center and best penalty killer on the Caps...on a slam-dunk value deal, and great all around team guy to boot...the Caps get what amounts to about the 88th pick in the follow year draft, and an over paid depth D-man they do not need, because they are probably going to have to shed Jensen's over paid contract to make way for Iorio to come up.
I think the Caps pass here. Dowd cannot be replaced by anyone in Hershey, or a 3rd round pick...and doubling the cap hit here for Kulak's sake makes zero sense.

Kane would never be a player the Caps would entertain. It almost happened years ago and Kane badmouthed Washington in the process. Plus the Caps have had too many basket case troublemakers in recent years (see Kuznetsov, Evgeny). Also the value of Lindgren is HIGH to the Caps (more so than his trade value) as he is the only goaltender that can stop the puck on a regular basis. While he is on a value deal and playing the role of #1, he is worth more to stay in DC than some flyer on a 2nd round pick, or lower value as some commenters have suggested.

Youth Movement
It is not a youth movement without shedding Kuemper and Jensen, and promoting Iorio and Stevenson. I'd say you are not far off what next years' lines will look like (save for a buyout or termination of Bear's contract), and or some retention to deal Jensen.

Agree. Maybe the recent push is not too little too late...I am not saying they could beat a NYR, BOS, FLA, CAR....but it would be fun to see them try. LGC!

Reinhart Walker and Leonard
Reinhart does not fit a re-tool / re-build. I think Miroshnichenko deserves a chance at a full year on LW...so maybe dump Kuemper and stick with the kids...kinda also don't need Walker if you've traded Jensen.

retool
Caps would not retain on low contract cost guys like Dowd or Milano. ANd I think they are both too valuable as bottom-6 players to deal. Especially for over pays like these. Dump Jensen, dump Kuemper (not Lindgren as he actually wins and gives the Caps a chance). Cristall will stay and develop in DC.
Bear can go...you got one right.

Swap TvR for Jensen...I agree one of them gets dealt over the offseason, but even though he costs more, Jensen is a more Top 4 d-man and I think he's got interest.
I think the Caps keep Dowd, he's just too valuable and a team guy on a very low cost deal. They can move him as a rental to a contender next TDL.
Also you may wish to add $1M/yr to McMichael. He's probably gonna get more than Protas as the target 3C going forward. He won't replace Kuzy's flash, but he will be much more like an Eller as a consistent 2-way guy and has scoring 20-goals in him.
Given the depth in Hershey too I doubt the Caps want NaK back or would mess w/ Di Giuseppe.

Not sure why you even have to retain salary on Dowd, plus why not keep him?? Such a valuable guy to the Caps.

FAIR assessment, but I am not 100% sure so I kept Oshie in there maybe 20-30 games.

FAIR. But let's call Minn a placeholder for "any team" willing to take on that contract.

Other moves look good tho. I agree that the Caps should not try to flip this retool around too fast, as fun as it is to think up some Tkachuk/Keller/etc. trades & signings</div></div>
What about 2 second rounders? I mean he is rather passed his best years and that injury last year has hampered him.

I half agree, but not sure BMac hasnt already written him out of the Top 6 long term. At least recent play made his value a 4th rounder not a 6th or 7th.

Put Behrens in the WSH deal and take Foudy out. Make one of the 4th rounders a 3rd (or conditional "better pick) and I think you get that done.

That fwd move is likely Kaliyev from LA. Lindy stays, Dowd stays...he moves Patches, and maybe Jensen too.

3 way stl and wash
First off, OSH will retire as a Washington Capital.
Second, fans would burn down MSG if Rangers brass paid a first and 3 healthier bodies for what is left in the Oshie tank (for a Cup run this year only) as he is most likely and LTIRetirment candidate next year if his on/off injury woes do not alleviate. Oshie has even pondered shutting it down very long term and while he's the best bench/locker room and on-ice guy any team could want...his health and production have been steep drops...
Still Oshie is LOVED in DC....and while this ROI is high. It is not a likely trade for STL either.

Caps Fans What Do You Think
50% retention for long term, and having to take Kampf? I think the Caps say no to that.
- The 1st rounder wont be top 10
- The defenseman swap is sort of net-net
- Basically you're trading Dowd (the best 4C in the league and a total great team guy) for a 1st and a 5th then adding negatively value with eating 50% of Jensen (for term) and Kampf...
Dowd for a 1st....GMBM would do that...and prob only that.
